Was the Tantive IV with the fleet from the beginning of the mission? Wouldn't that be risky to have the 'escort ship' there from the get-go?

Leia was on there, so obviously it probably dropped by the Alderon first.
The CR90 Corvettes are blockade Runners. They are used for combat, and you see at least one arrive at the battle.

How is Darth Krennic and not Vader? Haha

Krennic!? I hate you too Kane. :o

I will say, I think the U-wing is my new favorite fighter.

I can't get over how good Tarkin looked in this (and Leía).

I just came out of this so I may be euphoric, still, so good.

Everyone and everything was on point.

I need that Vader scene as an avatar.

I found a couple of gifs of it... too bad I can't post it.

You can post it. It'll be our secret.

Man I just left IMAX at Lincoln Square in utter joy. Second year in a row now! I loved everything about this, from the new characters to the callbacks to a new hope to the insane 3rd act and amazing effects to seeing Lord Vader in all his glory. It's a great time to be a Star Wars fan. It does the greatest thing a prequel can do. It makes the legendary original even more amazing.

For anyone interested, this is what the visual guide says about Jedha, the Guardians of the Whills, and Chirrut:

Rogue One Visual Guide pg. 90 - 91 said:
Chirrut is from a near extinct order, the Guardians of the Whills, which is devoted to protecting the Temple of the Kyber in the Holy City of Jedha. An ancient order, it's origins are lost to time and inextricably woven into the legends of the Jedi Knights. Some believers insist the Jedi drew inspiration from the followers of Jedha, while historians surmise it is likely the opposite. Whatever the truth, it is all a matter of deepest faith to Chirrut.

Chirrut is a practitioner of zama-shiwo, a Jedha martial art also known as "the inward eye of the outward hand." The central pillar involves perfection of physical awareness -- conscious accounting of a body's placement, contact, and internal functions. It is said that a master of these techniques can alter his heart rate, oxygen intakes, and vital processes to produce seemingly supernatural effects. This is similar to Jedi physical exercises that emphasize bodily control -- some believe due to a cultural connection with the ancient past.

Though Chirrut deeply believes in the reality of the Force, and respects the former Jedi Order, he knows no one could ever hold a monopoly on understanding the cosmic energy field. Unlike the late departed Jedi, the teachings of the Guardians of the Whills do not emphasize the discord between lightness and darkness. The Guardians believe their approach allows mortal minds to encompass the totality of the Force.

If there are still other Guardians alive that weren't killed on Jedha I'd like for Luke to meet one of them.

Oh, and the Rebel alliance symbol is based on an ancient starbird symbol. Chirrut wears a Jedha pendant depicting the ancient bird symbol. His pendant predates the Rebel Alliance.

And Vader's castle on Mustafar is "built over an ancient castle full of dark secrets." Palpatine chose it and Mustafar as the place where Vader would live.

P.S the Guide lists Anakin's birth planet "Unknown; raised on Tatooine". I always assumed he was born on Tatooine, but according to this he was only raised there.

Bad editing choice. If you are going to do the thing where you do subtitle labels for the planets and locations, don't suddenly drop it midway through the movie when it would've been helpful to the audience.

They only reason they had to do it was the choppy editing early on. If they had lingered with each character longer instead of chopping and changing, it wouldn't have even bee necessary.

So, I just got back, and I quite liked it, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue I did. I thought the shot lengths were often poorly handled. Some felt like they should have gone on a bit longer but were cut short, others feel like they're hanging longer than they ought to be. Just me?

No it's not just you. The editing in the first 20 minutes is a bit sloppy.

The editing was very choppy early on, and I believe that's where some of the reshoots came in. Just watch the first teaser trailer and you can get a good idea of some things that were changed and outright removed.

I'm guessing the scenes of bald Saw Gerrera were from after he rescued young Jyn Erso. And I think he was probably trying to tell her what would happen to her if she tried to leave to get revenge and get caught.

But if you are going to do that don't do it and then drop it midway through.
Tell us the planet was Mustafar and that's Vader's temple.

That's the result of one having a very inexperienced director at these films at the helm and two bringing on a fixer to make changes on the film in Tony Gilroy, who I'd argue doesn't have the best directing track record either.

Considering the reshoots seem to have mostly been done for the third act (the best part of the film) I'd say Tony Gilroy did a damn fine job. And I can put up with the editing in those first 20 minutes in exchange for the rest of the film.

Nope.

They obviously were not MOSTLY done for the third act.

Not sure what you are trying to prove with that picture. Me and Darth discussed this last night. The third act has significant changes. Saw having hair in one picture and not in another doesn't change that.

And seeing as I said mostly I obviously didn't mean no reshoots were done for other parts of the film.

All of Saw Gerrera's scenes were reshot and they gave him that hair piece.

Also what the hell was that scene with the tentacle monster?

**** if I know. Most random scene in the whole film. He interegates people with it and it seemed to me that the film was trying to imply that Saw's apparent mental instability may have been caused by the thing, but it was random as **** and more than a bit uncomfortable and awkward.
