Aren't R2 and C3PO seen after Raddus has already gone? It just seems weird that this aspect of the plan (the Tantive IV and a trip to Tatooine with the plans of all places) is left to us to assume. I mean, why then dash off to Tatooine? Just transmit the plans back to Yavin IV

They didn't have a chance to escape to have a chance to transmit it to Yavin. They were immediately pursued by Vader's destroyer and chased to there.

With Vader in pursuit they couldn't exactly run back to Yavin and give up the position of their secret Rebel Alliance base to the most powerful man in the galaxy not named the Emperor.

Immediately after they get the plans they are attacked by Vader in Rogue One and shortly after at the start of episode 4 boarded by Vader where Leia is captured and sends R2 to find Obi-Wan.

So while Leia was sent to find Obi-Wan the opportunity to get the plans to Yavin never arose thanks to Vader.

If I'm remembering correctly, only the Rogue One team has gone when we see C-3PO and R2D2. I don't think Raddus had actually left at that point. IMHO the movie has flaws and problems, but that's not really one of them.

I will say, you gotta look at Leia a bit different now at the beginning of ANH. Vader is probably 15 minutes behind her, saw her leave Jedha, and she still goes with the diplomatic mission excuse.

I think that excuse is for the Senate and the official record. Vader and Palpatine would never tell the Senate what happened at Scarrif. It's a secret military base. So the Senate won't be hearing about Scarrif from Vader or any imperials. And Leia and Bail are attempting to be in the Rebellion but remain publicly loyal to the Empire. That's how Rebels makes it seem. They walk a fine line to protect Aldarann. So Leia says they are on a diplomatic mission hoping if the Senate hears about that they will think Leia was stopped and boarded while carrying out her diplomatic duties. Not while engaging in extreme treason. She even says, "When the Senate hears..."

Which will help build animosity between the Senate and Vader and Palpatine and maintain Leia and Bail's public image. Of course the Senate is disbanded not long after Scarrif so it doesn't really matter what the Senate thinks.

Saw was bald in the past, on the Skype thing with Erso Family and when he arrives to save Jyn right after that.

Also, another favorite of mine is when the Rebel fleet start to hit hyperspace a few of them run into Vader's fleet that hit came out of hyperspace. So many little things my childhood brain thought of and now are being put onto screen.

You hear them say that Raddus is loading up to depart to the fight when they intercept the transmission that there is a battle on Scarif with Rebels involved when they are having that conversation with Mon Mothma. Which is why she smiles after that is said even after seeing it twice though I can't remember if that moment is before we see the droids or after.

I can't remember if we see the droids watching the X-Wings take off to Scarif or when Rogue One leaves. It does throw questions up if it was when everyone was departing for Scarif. I need to go see it a 3rd time to be sure :oldrazz:

All of Saw Gerrera's scenes were reshot and they gave him that hair piece.

Also what the hell was that scene with the tentacle monster?

About bald Saw, he was bald in the past. Based on pictures in the Visual Guide there was a scene with a younger bald Saw undergoing a medical procedure for his body (it's like routine dialysis but for his body to remove Geonosian insecticides that destroyed his body). He is having the procedure in his Jedha hideout and it looks like he is talking to someone in the scene. Beside one of the bald Saw pics it says he had more lucid moments before a few years ago when his health took a down turn. He also has a modified medical droid that I didn't see in the film.

I'm thinking the bald Saw scene is a flashback that was cut, and not a scene that was reshot. Could be wrong, but that's my assumption atm.

No it's not just you. The editing in the first 20 minutes is a bit sloppy.

Yeah, the first twenty minutes were...all over the place. But I thought the editing issues were pretty throughout, though nowhere near as bad as that first section.

I liked it overall. Thought Whitaker was a really clear weak link in the cast, but apart from that the cast they assembled was pretty good. Some of Jones' line deliveries weren't doing it for me still, but it was better than I was nervous she'd be. Gorgeously shot, that shot of [BLACKOUT]the star field being revealed as a Star Destroyer and then showing the Death Star[/BLACKOUT] was my favourite, personally. The action was pretty great, I liked the tone, had a blast with the third act, I had a good time. The editing was...messy, and that's without a doubt the biggest issue with it, the score's pretty lackluster and there are just some choices throughout that bug me. But I liked it.

[BLACKOUT]And my god, Krennic, just park outside the Erso home, then you wouldn't need to walk for a mile to get there.

I'm not sure why Giacchino thought putting triumphant music over watching the Star Destroyer crew die in a pretty intense way was a good idea. If it was just the ship, it'd be fine, but I think it really clashed with showing the crew's POV.

I thought the CG characters were pretty good for what they were. Definitely a bit of the uncanny valley effect, but I thought it was pretty good overall. With how bad people were making it out...I expected a lot worse there.[/BLACKOUT]

We'll probably see this in Rebels next month.

Its the X-Wing's scrambling because 3P0 is addressing the loud speaker telling all the pilots to head to Scarif

I actually liked Whitaker as Saw. It was definitely a, um, "big" and weird performance but I liked seeing the portrait of a man irreparably ravaged by war, mentally and physically, and as a result is so brutal and unforgiving in his methods that he's indistinguishable from a terrorist, too far even for the Rebels. Whitaker plays him like he's constantly taking in his last breath.

Ok it's hard remembering since there is like 4 Yavin take off scenes in the movie they start getting jumbled when trying to remember.

Another question I am curious if others thought the same thing but when we are at Saw's hideout. Was that Twi'lek in the background Cham? If not his character design looked a lot like him. Second time watching I really looked at him trying to figure that out curious if anyone thought the same thing?

Except...here he is bald with adult Jyn Erso in her current costume throughout the present storyline of the movie:

He's with Jyn there. Still has his respirator. His suit's heavily damaged and been through a lot of wear and tear. So...there you go.

It was Beezer Fortuna, in whom was based on old concept art for Bib Fortuna.

So as a rough timeline;
- Imperial message intercepted
- Raddus begins loading crew
- Mon Mothma is notified
- Battle ready X-Wings and loud hailer notification
- R2 and C3PO scene
- Everyone leaves

I guess that makes sense... I'm still thinking Leia docks with the flagship after it gets disabled, otherwise Vader has no reason to head straight for the docking bay. It's a hell of a guess otherwise

**** if I know. Most random scene in the whole film. He interegates people with it and it seemed to me that the film was trying to imply that Saw's apparent mental instability may have been caused by the thing, but it was random as **** and more than a bit uncomfortable and awkward.

I liked it, seemed to inject a dose of Lovecraftian horror, while at the same time reminded me of The Wrath of Kahn and the eels on Ceti Alpha V

Or the scenes where Saw was bald could have been deleted scenes of a younger Jyn before she left him.

His suit looks clean in that picture.

I'm wondering what the movie looked like without the reshoots.

Just spitballing here, but I wonder if some of the reshoots changed a lot of the first act material to expand the character introductions. That's just kind of where things played in a pretty haphazard way, where stuff was inserted.

But also look at the first teaser trailer, and there's a lot of footage and scenes there aren't in the final film. Maybe there was more of a younger Saw and Jyn as a child. The stuff of Mon Mothma reading off Jyn's crimes, and Jyn saying she rebels.

I have to say, while I still think film is irreplaceable, this movie did a very good job capturing a film look. It legitimately had me second guessing about whether it was shot digitally or not at times, cause I had forgotten prior to watching the movie.

I'm still kind of processing my feelings about the movie overall- it didn't leave me feeling as giddy as I thought it would and I think there are some legitimate weaknesses here especially in the first act, but the overall visuals of the movie were superb. Some of the best SW action we've ever seen for sure. There is a lot of seductive fanservice here that's pretty hard for me to resist, but I hope the movie will hold up beyond that.

I'm hoping a second viewing will make the movie soar for me, because the third act really was pretty thrilling. TFA didn't really hit me until the second viewing. Also didn't help that I was a bit tired last night and that first act didn't help things.

Better than Force Awakens. The ending had me in awe and made me want to watch the original immediately.
