Great review. Agreed on almost all of it. Yeah it's clear a double-dip is around the corner. I loved all the features of the blu-ray but it was very little in the bigger scheme of things.
The best one was Kylo Ren searching the Falcon, even though I can see why it was taken out. The Leia scene at the base also wasn't bad. Even though it would have introduced her an hour earlier, I prefer her introduction in the final cut.
I think the emotional impact of her introduction later hits a lot better than this one.
Also, that scene is a little redundant other than that there's this subplot of maybe the Resistance and the New Republic don't see eye-to-eye. But the film doesn't even explore that idea too much.
The scene with Ren in the Falcon is cool, but I think we get enough of the lament of Ren being the son of Han Solo later. And we get the reaction of Ren realizing Solo is around elsewhere too.
Avoiding and concealing spoilers was always going to be an issue with the writing and interviews for this book. Also, the lawsuit about the working conditions on AVCO (Ford's injury, etc.) could also affect how open it is to talk about that particular aspect of the making of the movie whether the book comes out as planned or not.
It could just be indefinitely delayed for a better time to talk about things.
Yeah I read that earlier today. I really hope they don't cancel it. I mean they brought Rinzler on board. I wonder if it is just further delayed. I mean they went into a lot of this knowing all of these things would probably come up. And then to do it all of a sudden and stop? I wonder if there is something else holding it off for now.
Mark Hamill confirmed Devin Faraci's original report that TFA originally opened with a severed hand holding a lightsaber falling onto a planet where an alien hand picks it up. The Faraci cultists have gone on Twitter to praise their overweight overlord for his exceptional reporting.
I wouldn't have minded the Lightsaber opening, I just didn't like the severed hand attached idea. I also didn't like the Lightsaber relay race where it kept changing hands in the leaked scene list - even more than it already does in the final cut of the movie.
It's already weird/coincidental enough that so many things wind up on Jakku.
'The Dark Side Of Force Awakens' (Pink Floyd synch is amazing, I love this better than Oz). Interestingly Luke is introduced via "lunatic is on the grass" and sounds of laughter... Very meta (Joker).
Star Wars The Force Awakens meets Mad Max Fury Road in this fan made trailer that combines both the mad of Max world and the danger of Rey's galaxy far far away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Dz1K9k2vI4
]Here is a funny and weird anecdote about what George Lucas thinks of himself as a filmmaker, from JW Rinzler, author of the 'The Making of Star Wars' book series:
"One of the first things George said to me when I interviewed him on Episode III was, ‘You know, I’m not a director, I’m not a film director.’ I was thinking ‘What? What is he talking about?’. He says, ‘Steven Spielberg, he’s a director. He says put the camera here, lay down the dolly track, and so on. I’m out there collecting footage.’ He’s collecting material, which he then works on in the editing room. For him, the whole process is very painful, up until he gets to editorial…I think that’s the part, relatively speaking, he enjoys the most."
So I didn't catch this until a co-worker pointed this out, at the end when the rebels are seeing Rey and Chewie off right there is C-3PO back with his golden arm but a few scenes before he still had the red arm. I paused the scene frame by frame and am sure C-3PO has his golden arm back.
How did that happened? But in that same even there is a red protocol droid.
Bill Simmons asked Ben Affleck if he was offered the director's job on Episode VII.
Ben Affleck said:
Well, it wouldnt be polite to talk about the jobs you turn down, but I had a lot of offers. Its like, forks in the road that are, like, legitimate different paths. Boy, my lifes going to be really different if I go this way, or do Batman, or I do this other iconic thing.
I've just completed a comparison between the raw screentime of Rey and Finn and Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens with proof in the form of the timecodes. I saw someone misleading or lying on reddit about this the other day and here comes the ultimate debunking and comparison. This list on IMDb was reasonably accurate (42R-30F-19K-10B-9P) but I needed to test it for myself.
Method: Used a DVD on PlayStation and looked at the time when a character is visible on-screen. It's rounded to the nearest seconds. It's easier doing freeze frame with DVD than Blu-ray because the menu doesn't pop up when paused.
Rey: < 2724 seconds (45 minutes 24 seconds) due to rounding
Finn: < 1998 seconds (33 minutes 18 seconds) due to rounding
Han Solo: < 1231.5 seconds (20 minutes 31.5 seconds) due to rounding
Kylo Ren: < 1230 seconds (20 minutes 30 seconds) due to rounding
BB-8: < 800 seconds (13 minutes 20 seconds) due to rounding
Poe Dameron: < 558 seconds (9 minutes 18 seconds) due to rounding
Leia Organa: < 410 seconds (6 minutes 50 seconds) due to rounding
Luke Skywalker: < 52 seconds due to rounding
EDIT: Added baby Finn hologram screentime (+6 seconds). This one was a debatable addition, it's like counting a photograph of a character in the background/foreground of any movie as character screentime.
EDIT 2: Calculated Kylo Ren's screentime. / Found 0.5 more Rey screentime in a brief shot during the climactic Han Solo confrontation.
EDIT 3: Calculated Han Solo's screentime. / Found 1 second more Finn screentime under Maz's castle as Finn's boots and legs can be seen a second earlier than accounted for.
EDIT 4: Fixed unit conversion (seconds -> minutes/seconds). Unit conversion website calculator used was slightly off.
EDIT 5: Calculated Leia Organa's and Luke Skywalker's screentime.
EDIT 6: Calculated Poe Dameron's screentime.
EDIT 7: Calculated BB-8's screentime. Timecodes excluded due to forum post size limit,

I loved Force Awakens but I do hope the rumors of Anakin making a cameo of sorts. I actually love Revenge of the Sith and its up there with the OT in my opinion. I know some people here might take that as a personal offense but like I said that my opinion.
