One thing I hope they retcon in some way is [BLACKOUT]Mara Jade's death[/BLACKOUT] and the Legacy of the Force story. F**k that noise.

I'm not really familiar with any of the expanded universe stuff, but no one on the internet seems to like it, lol. Does anybody think they should just ignore the EU altogether? Or would that just upset people more?

How much affect do we think the various novels and comics post-Jedi will have on things?

I love many EU products. Let's not forget that the Clone Wars series is EU, too. But I think those of us who'd be upset aren't really a big factor in their decisions.

None at all. If they want to cancel them out, they will give this no second thought. Lucas retconned the droids' origins with TPM and entire series of Boba stories with AotC.

This is interesting. It's been a while since we've had news which has broken the internet. I wonder how this film will be affected by the here and now. I bet it'll pander heavily to the Asian markets.

Still it makes sense. Alot of the gods of science fiction have been rebooted and reinvented for today's era. Doctor Who, Star Trek. Star Wars was probably due sooner or later.

Well, I doubt they'd end up retconning prequel stuff like Clone Wars. I was more referring to all the post-RotJ stories. Has Lucas declared those canon?

No, I'm jsut saying that Lucas retconned stuff on a whim. Many post-RotJ are heavily connected, so one simple line "Luke never got married" would destroy EVERYTHING.

Lucas has declared nothing post-RotJ canon, save for the Thrawn trilogy and Shadow of the Empire (which almost went into pre-production for a movie in the 90s). And even those are semi-canon according to him.

Everything he's overlooked after 2005 though is considered canon, aka Force Unleashed and the CW cartoons.

Good ,that's out of the way. Now let's see how far they'll go!

Thanks. So if that's the case, I have a feeling a lot of that stuff is about to be blown outta the water.

Yup. Imagine that every major character has kids and one of them is also dead. It's gonna be simple to retcon all that.

It's still hard to believe that this is all happening, who would have thought a week ago that we'd have a thread for Star Wars discussing and speculating about another Live Action film?

I'm sure everything post ROTJ is gonna be wiped clean and no longer be considered canon to the films.

pre ANH stuff like TFU is a mixed bag already, but I doubt they will be affected.

Yeah, that's what I think, too. Unless they go for a wide gap between RotJ and Ep7.

Not me.

I never expected something like this.

Well we should look at the bright side, at least we didn't have to wait another 20 years to see a new set of live action films for the franchise.

I really hope that the new set of films can really take the franchise into brave new heights and really redefine (in a good way) the Star Wars universe. Compelling Storytelling, great acting, and awesome lightsaber and action scenes..that's all I ask for.haha

If you think about it, ANH-TPM was a 22 year gap and TPM-EpVII will have an 18 year gap.

I hope that the first order of business is that we're not given ******ed characters like Jar Jar or campy villains like the Federation Droids.

Oh and no more corny ass and badly directed/acted Love Scenes please...and the films should stay away from the politics as much as possible.

I agree, not because I disliked all the stuff you mentioned, but because there's no need for a retread. Fresh, fresh, fresh.

As more of a classic trilogy fan, this is right up my alley. I'd like to see Luke most of all. I don't think other characters like Han, if Harrison is up for it, would be detrimental to the movie. Even a cameo would do. The fans would go nuts. There'd still be plenty of room for the new breed of Star Wars characters to breathe.

Just realized something,

TPM was released 16 years after ROTJ

Star Wars Episode VII will be released 16 years after TPM.

Not really a pattern just something i thought of. Kind of hard to believe we are almost to the ten year anniversary of ROTS.
