It looks like "Gattaca" may come sooner than we think.
I was watching CNN/HLN (I'm sure the reports are online as well) and it's estimated within a year, clinics will exist for parents to pay scientists to select the sex, hair color, eye color, race, height, weight etc of their future children through invitro.
One such clinic already existed in the states and successfully selected the genders for many client's children based on the wishes of the parents.
Should this be allowed to happen?
Personally, I'd say YES. We can eliminate many, many diseases through genetic engineering. They've already discovered how to eliminate some illnesses through this process.
There will undoubtedly be parents only interested in the cosmetic aspects of this but I think it's a fascinating glimpse into the future of humanity. This could be a huge breakthough.
If this becomes a popular trend in the near future, soon there may be a larger dichotomy between the rich and the poor based on genetic engineering.
This could benefit mankind, but also change it, with less diversity in our future.
What does everyone think?
