Oscar Winner George Clooney shrugged off suggestions Monday that he might run for political office - but he sure sounded like a politician doing it.

The actor-director skillfully deflected a barrage of questions from reporters about a potential Clooney candidacy, after appearing at an event where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation aimed at helping stop genocidal violence in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Told that fans are clamoring for the "Syriana" star to run for office, Clooney said with a subtle head shake, "Believe me, you don't want me in politics."

When asked what he thought about people wearing T-shirts urging him to seek the presidency in 2008, he added, "I think they're probably kidding."

Asked again if he would try to get his name on a ballot, Clooney said, "That's a bad idea."

Clooney, a liberal Democrat, is well known for his activism. Lately, he has been urging Congress and the United Nations to help end atrocities in the Darfur region.

When it comes to his own future, maybe he was just trying to lower expectations.

Clooney recalled at one point that he starred in "Batman and Robin," in which Schwarzenegger played the villainous Mr. Freeze.

"He's gone on to be governor, and I still think I'm Batman," Clooney said

"He's gone on to be governor, and I still think I'm Batman," Clooney said HAHAHAHAHA!:down

Good Night and Good Luck *****.:)

/close thread.

Not exactly big news is it? However, I must say that anybody who pushes for aid to Darfur is okay in my book. The U.S. and the U.N. have really dropped the ball on this one.

We need another actor running for any office, like that guy needed that.

While I support Clooney's efforts over Darfur. He's just too damn smug and gives off the impression that he thinks that his views are better than anyone elses.

He should do it just so I can listen to his voice for hours!

The UN *AND* the US? Why is the US dropping the ball when it comes to giving aid, but not when it comes to situations where the US refrains from being the world's policeman?

This is a UN problem - not a US problem. The only reason you and others call it a US problem is because the US has been generous enough in the past to develop a reputation for coming to the rescue of other nations and their people. So now it's EXPECTED?? If the US doesn't VOLUNTARILY give aid out of pure GENEROUSITY (not obligation), it's "dropping the ball"? Wtf?

If it starts, and then stops, then yes.

Anyway, back on topic, I don't find it surprising that he isn't running. People start the dumbest rumors.

BS. I can start giving $2 a month to the homeless children's fund. And even if I promised to do so for 12 months, but stopped at 6, I was still being generous for those six months. That's still $12 more dollars than that homeless kid would have had if I'd simply decided to give nothing.

So by your estimation, I'm LESS generous because I stopped (since I've now become the target of criticism) than if I had given nothing (therefore avoiding your criticism)?

How in the HELL does that make any sense?

but . . . but . . . but . . . he would be such a great-looking president; and he's a cool guy!!!

:D

I'd love for Sylvester Stallone to run and win the Presidency. And to make things worse, have him be a Republican. Man that would piss so many people off.

Clooney is better looking than Reagan. Clooney is better looking than Clinton. Clooney is better looking than Bush.

Now, I only have a minor in political science, but I believe that alone makes him more qualified in the American political system.

No, I mean he glows with such smugness. I mean really, really glows with it. If we turned off the lights you'd still be able to see Clooney because he is so luminant of his smugness.

I mean, I respect the guy a lot for his efforts to help Darfur, but damn, he's just so freaking smug.

That was funny. Another thing to respect about him is that he doesn't take such jokes so literally and laughs at them (Team America).

Seriously, I think that I would vote for Clooney if he didn't radiate in his smugness though.

you know what i hated about team america?
Alec Baldwin offered to voice his puppet counterpart with the same lines as the script and they turned him down.

I don't think Clooney is as smug as he comes off. The fact that he has a sense of humor about himself (I mean, SOuth Park constantly tears him a new one, yet he continually does voice work for Trey and Matt) shows that he must not be as smug as he is portrayed.

That's not what I said, laz. I said that it counted as dropping the ball when the US, supposedly a country concerned with humanitarian causes that has gone as far to go to war with a sovereign nation under the pretense of liberating them, doesn't live up to that when a blatant humanitarian crisis is occurring. Does that clear it up a bit?

I agree, I think Hippie_hunter just has a problem with him because of his stupid physical swagger.
I hate guys that swagger like that, makes me want to knock them over while they are off-balance!:cmad:

...Im still in love with him though.

For some reason, everytime I look at him I just keep picturing him thinking in his head that he just goes "I'm better than you"

I don't know why :csad:

Plus he did this
