i love the idea of a movie about the tuskegee airmen. its something everyone needs to know more about. that said, this movie looks like crap to me. and most unfortunately, it's not going to give the tuskegee airmen the recognition they deserve.

not that I know of but I will see it tomorrow

Can somebody say "nitpicking"!!!

"Boom!" may be nitpicking, but everything about the trailer suggests that it's a more modern movie and not the period piece that it probably should be. Regardless, it looks really crappy.

Please list some examples to back up your claim.

I can't. It's just the vibe I get from the trailer. It could be the emphasis on the green screened action, it could be the modern accents that the actors seem to have, it could be the framing of the trailer and how its look and tone gives a modern feel to it. Hell, it could just be the pace of the trailer. Fact is, the total package of it feels like it's more modern than retro.

So basically, there's not enough old-timey black speak, and the movie should have been filmed with 60 year-old black and white film stock. Gotcha!

I'm still looking forward to it.

Uh... no? Just saying that it feels more modern than period.

Why am I sensing hostility here?

My claim is that to me the trailer gives the movie a slick, modern feel to it. It's a je ne sais quoi sort of thing. This isn't like some hypothesis that I need to back up with cold, hard facts. It's just an initial impression.

Well, there's no rule dictating how a period piece should carry itself across in terms of its candor and spectacle. The trailer intentionally was made to be uplifting and entertaining..Those other aspects of the movie are hard to capture in a trailer.

No one's saying you need cold hard facts, but should people challenge your opinion, you seem to make little to no effort to articulate your reasoning in any way that would lead people to respect your opinion.

Don't want to speak for the guy but I know I felt the same way.

Looks like it'll be light on characterization and instead they'll be turning these great men into nothing more but one liner spitting pieces of cardboard. The airmen in the trailer from what I can see for the exception of Howard, Gooding, and one or two of the other pilots aren't convincing anyone they're from that era (just looks at the mannerism and manner of speech by some just go check out the PBS The Tuskegee Airmen if you want a more accurate depiction)

The concentration rather seems to be on the fancy bells and whistle "gee whiz" effects instead of trying to give some proper build up. The focus of the entire thing seems off in terms of the pilots.

If anyone wants to see a great representation go check out The Tuskegee Airmen (TV 1995) version instead of this.

Those are just my feelings on it. I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade it's just how I feel about this entire project. I was hoping for the best and unsurprisingly was disappointed once the trailer hits.

I see what your talking about but I still think it looks fun.

Of course it feels modern, because it is made with today's film technology and special effects.

As for the "modern accents", of course the accents sound modern since there is no difference in the accents from black Americans (and American's in general) from the 40's and black Americans from the present day.

EXACTLY. Funny how people complain about this film not looking or feeling like a period piece, and yet I didn't here this same claim about movies done in the same slick modern style like SHERLOCK HOLMES and 300.

Here are a couple of reviews for the movie.

This movie is basically Indiana Jones crossed with the Blackhawks, which is fine with me and exactly the type of movie I want to see. The characters are fictional, but the story and events in the movie are based on real events but told in a classic comic book action movie style.
