EXCLUSIVE: In a seven-figure deal, David Ellison’s Skydance Productions has pre-emptively purchased an untitled global disaster film spec script written by Dean Devlin and Paul Guyot. Devlin will make his feature directing debut. Skydance’s Ellison and Dana Goldberg will produce with Devlin and his Electric Entertainment team of Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan.
Devlin returns to the global destruction sandbox he played in when he and then-partner Roland Emmerich sold their Independence Day spec for millions, a guaranteed Fox green light and release date, and a global gross north of $800 million. They continued the destruction with Godzilla. While Emmerich continued crushing the planet with The Day After Tomorrow and 2012 (he and Devlin are working on two Independence Day sequels), Devlin formed Electric Entertainment and has put together movies (one was Flyboys, which featured avid aviator Ellison onscreen), and the Noah Wyle telepic series The Librarian. Devlin is currently exec producer of the TNT series Leverage. Guyot, Devlin’s co-writer on the spec, is supervising producer of that series.
Neither Devlin nor Ellison would reveal how this picture will destroy the world, but they confirmed the deal, with Ellison calling Devlin “a premier creator of original event entertainment. I’m thrilled to be working with him on his directorial debut, as this project is perfect for both of our sensibilities.”
Per Devlin: “Since meeting David, I have admired and respected his creative work an am excited for the opportunity to collaborate with him on this upcoming project. This film is very important to me and I’m so grateful for the chance to make this with people I know and consider friends.”
Skydance is coming off the Tom Cruise-starrer Jack Reacher, with that film’s director, Christopher McQuarrie, working with Cruise and JJ Abrams on the next installment of Mission: Impossible for Skydance and Paramount. Skydance and Paramount have a huge 2013 in store, with G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z and Jack Ryan also slotted for release this year.
Devlin is repped by CAA and attorney Doug Stone; Guyot by UTA, Circle of Confusion and attorney Gregg Gellman.

Really cool, although I think I'm in the minority I love seeing him destroy the world and cities time and time again.

Paramount Pictures has set their franchise comedy sequel Beverly Hills Cop for release on March 26, 2016. Warner Bros. has, meanwhile, dated the Dean Devlin's Geostorm for release on the same day. There are currently no other major releases planned for that date.

The new Beverly Hills Cop movie will reunite Eddie Murphy with his Tower Heist director, Brett Ratner. The franchise had initially planned to segue into life on the small screen with a pilot that starred Brandon T. Jackson as Foley's son. That concept failed to move beyond the pilot stage.

Geostorm, meanwhile, stars Gerard Butler as a scientist forced to team with his estranged brother to save the world from weather-controlling satellites while villains attempt an assassination of the President.

The Hollywood Reporter says Cornish will play Sturgess' girlfriend, a Secret Service agent. Harris will play the Secretary of State, and Garcia will play the President.

Sometimes, it seems like Gerard Butler can't get a break to save his life.

Dean Devlin Untitled Global Disaster Movie With Gerard Butler should honestly just be the title.

The movie underwent costly reshoots earlier this month, while mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer was brought on board. After some test screenings last December, the studio pondered what to do, while they consulted with Bruckheimer. It's not mere pickups, but around $15M was spent. Also the producers did some recasting and incorporating new characters.

Veteran TV director Danny Cannon ("Gotham", Judge Dredd) directed the pickups, while Laeta Kalogridis wrote the new material. According to studio insiders, Devlin was unavailable for the reshoots and will remain the film's director.

This sounds like a bad Syfy movie

Honestly, i'm done with the all destroy the world plot, expect if they are aliens because that usually brings some really cool action sequences.

A female covering a song slowly and dramatically! Yay!

I like disaster movies but I hope they touch up the CGI a bit.

Why in God's name did Harris have to be in this therefore ensuring I will see this **** just for what is probably yet another role of 5 mins of him? Hopefully there's more and hopefully it is not gonna be awful

This sounds like a fake movie people on a sitcom go watch.

ah my bad...
Hopefully a mod can merge the threads then.

Once again, Gerard Butler is the best hope we've got. Man, we're ****ed if he ever goes on vacation.

Holy hell that last shot of the trailer was some serious 90's CG. This is gonna be amazingly stupid.

I was thinking as I watched the trailer that it looked like a Roland Emmerich movie, then I saw who was directing.....close enough.
