Butler is in talks to play Set, a god of the desert, storms, and foreigners in ancient Egyptian religion. In Egyptian mythology, he killed and mutilated his own brother Osiris. Horus, the son of Osiris, sought revenge against Set for the killing of his father. Game Of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will play Horus.

This is essentially the villain role but clearly sounds badass. I think Butler should do this. This could be a great role for him and we know he can take a role like this to the next level.

Oh so it's kind of like that paradise lost movie proyas was suppose to make that sounded really cool...I can't wait for it to not happen :o

That film had Bradley Cooper in the lead role of Lucifer but it fell through at a shockingly advanced stage, like weeks before filming or ****. They had costumes and pre-production ready and the actors were already training.

If they land Butler, they might get and retain funding.

If this happens I hope it takes place in the past and it's not some kind of modernized film.

I think it sounds very much like a sweeping swords and sandal epic. It will obviously be set in the ancient times.

I hope so. My wife will be ecstatic.

This could be cool. I couldn't give less of a crap about Butler, but I'll see anything with Jaime Lannister in it.

This is amazingly exciting. I have to catch my breath

By the way, do you guys remember this tread:

I have to add some of my quotes here, as it fits the topic here!

...as I know a little about Hollywood's way of thinking, the film will only focus at the Horus/Set war. Osiris may be mentioned briefly, perhaps appear as a cameo. But Ra will be left out completely, except during that short introduction to mythology that always is playing during opening credits in these kinds of films. I guess he will be referred to as some very old and ancient power of pre-historic times.

Frank Dillane as Horus.
I see no reason to NOT have him a bit younger than the rest of the gods. His father Osiris was killed before he had grown into a muscular "30 year old looking" warrior dude with a beard.
Horus' fight with Set won't be as strange as it sounds, we have already got Potter vs Voldemort. If the powerful dark lord "fears" a teenager and wants to get rid of him to rule the wizard world (as well as all the muggles) in peace with himself - why can't the same thing be going on among the ancient gods?
Now we get Coster-Waldau. But I can't help thinking that a younger Horus, as in my vision above, would have worked just fine.
The god of chaos Set sees a threat in the youngster Horus, how can that be logical? It's the same thing when the mighty titan king Kronos was afraid of his children.
Now that Horus will be portrayed as a rugged adult warrior, it's so obvious he's powerful and dangerous to Set. It kinda takes the wonder off the plot, and turn it into nothing more than a war film. And yes, Horus will surely be a "muscular warrior dude with a beard", lol.

One question: Shouldn't Butler and Coster-Waldau switch roles here. Butler feels more war-like for sure, And Coster-Waldau more like someone with tricks up his sleeve.

I'm with you all the way :)

You are a genius man! You should be a Hollywood pitch man where you pitch ideas and they make movies out of those.

Coster-Waldau is 43. So very far from a younger Horus. More like a weathered battle worn Horus.

I am pretty sure Butler was approached with his 300 image in mind. So Set might very well be the "muscular warrior dude with a beard" instead of Horus or both will be and it will be a brutal man-o-man to the death.

I think the selling point for this film apart from the visuals and action might be another brutal badass performance from Butler.

Read again! :)
I said they could have made Horus a young character, because the he wouldn't have looked the physically dangerous as he actually is (or has potential to be). And in my second quote, I mention actor Frank Dillane. :)

If Proyas' name is attached, I'm in there like swimwear.

:wow:

Geoffrey Rush Joining Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler in 'Gods of Egypt' (Exclusive)

Geoffrey Rush has closed a deal to join Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gerard Butler in Summit's epic fantasy Gods of Egypt.

Alex Proyas is directing the project, whose story is set in motion when one ruling god, Set, kills another, Osiris. When Osiris' son Horus fails in his attempt to get revenge, and has his eyed plucked out, it's up to a young human thief in love with a slave to help defeat the mad god.

Coster-Waldau is playing Horus. Butler is in talks to play Set, the god of the desert.
Rush will play the sun god Ra, the father of Set and Osiris who is also Set’s ultimate target.
Proyas will share screenwriting credits with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazamat.

Not sure how I feel about that part.

Our cliched hero and love story, ladies and gentlemen.

Rush is a decent pick for Ra. But what if they cast someone older, like Max von Sydow??

If you want a Dillane, Stephen is where it's at.
Stephen Dillane as a young Horus?
Maybe you just didn't understand my vision.

Hey, you know who they won't cast in this movie?

Any actual Egyptians. :(

You want a 100% egyptian cast? And no English speaking?

LOL, no of course not. I just think it's funny that a movie called God of Egypt isn't apparently targeting any actors who actually look like they could be from the region. I know they're "gods" but still.

Egyptians means arabs these days, anyway.

But if you want black people, then:

Michael Clarke Duncan (R.I.P) - Osiris
Ving Rhames - Set
Djimon Hounsou - Horus
James Earl Jones - Ra
etc

This could be really cool, or it could be a bigger disaster than the Clash of the Titans remake. I will be optimistic until given a reason not to be. Butler, Rush, Jaimie Lannister, that's a heck of a cast. As for a possible love story, yes its clichéd, but being clichéd doesn't automatically make it bad.

No what I mean is that Stephen is so talented that he can play any role, regardless of age, race or gender :oldrazz:
