Hey guys, :)

Here in germany we must wait 4 weeks (8/21 .... :( ....) but we´ve got a first impression of the end-dubbing. It´s the scene, where the joker crah the party and impends the senator (mike gravel?). Well, the most german fans were very sceptical about the dubbing fof Ledger´s brilliant work. But now....at least I like the dubbing. It sounds optimal. The sound-shaking (can I say that? :grin::wow: ) are not complete, but the voice is very clear. :)

How the **** can one dub Heath Ledger!!???? Those freaken Germans REALLY ought to learn English about now, and see the movie in its original form!... They even dub their PORNO! What, they can't understand english groan!???
 
did you just insult germany right in a german's thread? geez its not like americas the best place on earth.

The only thing I meant was that they should watch movies in their original language... dubbing everything to German is so weird.

oh, okay. but i mean its germany, of course they have to dub it. obviously some germans speak english and they sometimes play a movie in english with subtitles. i dont know if they have this in every country, but one time i was in mexico and they had a theater where i was staying where they played the movies in english without subtitles.

I'm from Germany and I agree. That's one reason why i'll watch TDK in a dutch cinema tomorrow. That, and I don't want to wait until the end of August.

By the way: I really don't like The Joker's german voice.
Simon Jaeger always dubbed Heath Ledger and he used to do a great job. But his voice does not fit Mr J IMHO.

Dubbing movies in German or French... Both is weird and stupid! Just subtitle it...

Here in Belgium we had The Simpsons spoken in Flemisch and in The Netherlands they spoke Dutch!

How can anyone listen to a Flemish or Dutch speaking Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Mr. Burns, Apu,...

Dubbing movies: S T U P I D!!!

It's like Germany and Austria would have different dubbings.

As someone who lives next to the Dutch AND the Belgian border (I'm from Aachen/ Aken/ Aix la Chapelle) I have one question: How do you handle this in Belgium?
Do you show the original versions with subtitles like the Dutch do?

If you live on Belgium terrority, then you had the choice between the original version OR the Flemisch spoken version.

If you live on The Netherlands terrority, then you had the choice between the original OR the Dutch spoken version.

If you live in Wallonie, then i think the choice was French dubbed or original spoken.

On the region 2 DVD you can choose original, Dutch or Flemisch. Even watch it Flemisch spoken with Dutch subtitles.

But on-topic:

I think it's a waste of money for paying actors to dub a voice. Just make it subtitled.
 
Wtf? I think English with native subtitles is the best way to do this. The only films that need dubs are kid's films because younglings can't read :woot:
 
I have to say that I don't enjoy the majority of the german dubbing on foreign movies either. Watching a lot of the hollywood movies or tv shows here, I kind of whince painfully at the job. I don't mind if they dub it. My only gripe is that they all sound the same or there isn't any feeling behind the voice overs. It's just so bland. There are only a few exceptions like I said. I say Lisa Simpson sounds like Lisa. Everyone else is a bit or way off.

And I am NOT going to watch Dark Knight in german for sure.
 
I hate dubbing, and I always prefer subtitle. I'm a huge anime fan, and if I can find a subtitle version I'd watch it over dub every time. Same thing with foreign films. I just like to hear the original actor's voice, like the way it was meant to be seen originally.
 
When I was stationed in Germany, I had the good fortune to see an episode of the Simpsons dubbed in German. I found it comical, just because I wasn't used to it.

Try watching Spongebob with Gaelic overdubs, now that is odd!
 
I'd say everyone would be better off with subtitles instead of dubbing.

When I watch a foreign movie, I prefer to see it with subtitles. Dubbing is rarely nearly as good. It would seem this is true with The Dark Knight. At least the dubber is trying, though. I could tell that at many moments he was attempting to copy the way Heath delivered the lines. That's nice at least. A lot of dubbers just ruin it completely.
 
But with subtitles you cant get the funny German-Joker chewing noise!
 
Dubbing pulls me right out of the experience and lessens the quality of the actor's portrayal IMO.
 
i'm from germany too(dortmund)!i hate the german voice of heath...so i'll watch the movie sunday in the netherlands...and tuesday i'll watch it (in a preview) in duesseldorf :-D
 
Forget to say that even WALL.E will have a dubbed version!!!

Why? How much is there spoken in that movie? 6 minutes in total?

Lucky i can see tomorrow the original version in avant-premiere!!!
 
I never understood the need to dub a film. I'm from Greece and luckily, the films here are played in their original form, just subtitled.

Do people not understand that watching a dubbed film means you're watching half the actor's performance? Even if the person doing the dubbing is pretty good (which is very rarely the case), it's not the performance you were intended to see. I find it really stupid in an era when people are supposedly knowledgeable and appreciative of the art of cinema.

It's not just the English language either. When I'm watching a Chinese film on DVD, I never choose another language, I just use subtitles. Even if I don't understand a word, the actor's intended emotions are imprinted in his performance and I'm sure a Greek actor passively dubbing the dialog would not be as good.

Can a song by Loreena McKennitt be dubbed? Sure, the music will still be the same, but the song won't. It will range from close to the original to absolutely horrible. It's like taking a painting and re-painting the people in it. No matter how good the new painter, it will never be the work of art as it was intended to be seen.
