Decided to look for some local stuff from my state... went digging around youtube. To be honest - this video kind of makes me sad since HVRR's Union Pacific No.618 (that's in this video) as well as their other steam engine Great Western Railways No.75 (movie famous for films like A River Runs Through It and Breakheart Pass) have been out of service for quite a while now. They currently run their excursions with diesel engines. Just not the same to me. 618 has been out for almost 10 years, 75 out for almost 17 years (there's been management issues at HVRR for a while now)
More steam from HVRR... back during the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics, in order to help cut down on traffic in the local canyons, the railroad was used as transportation to one of the venues (Soldier Hollow - where biathlon, cross-country skiing and the Nordic combined events were done). The train was also part of the Olympic Torch's journey - which is what this video is of. The Olympic Torch run was a triple header with the aforementioned 618 & 75 (and lets see, as this was 2002 - this would be the last season 75 was running... as I said, it's been almost 17 years) - along with Nevada Northern's #93 (loaned to HVRR for the course of the games)
at 2:10 the engineer of 75 waves to a guy on the ground in a big hat, the guy in the hat is the guy that went on to found Wasatch Railroad Contractors (the ones that restored the Jim Crow era car for the Smithsonian) - he used to be Chief Mechanical Officer for HVRR before parting ways

Does anyone have any train merch? When I went to London I got this super cute model of the tube
And when I went to Japan I saw super cute cartoon characters of the Shinkansen and other trains which I was dying to get a plush of. Couldn’t find anything in any of the shops though
