It's waaaaaaaaaay too early to tell really, but I have an inkling that Hellboy 2 will be very good indeed. Comicbook movie sequels, for some reason, tend to be as good or better than the originals (Spider-Man 2, Superman 2, X2, Blade II. Batman Returns, bery probably FF2). Plus, Del Toro is absolutely at the top of his game now post-Pan's Labyrinth - and the cast have played the characters a number of times now, with the animated movies.

And a bigger-ish budget won't hurt, either.

I love the first flick, I just want more of what I got there. as long as everyone in the cast returns, I'm satisfied it will be a good, entertaining flick.

I'm really looking forward to the sequel. I loved the first movie, and the cast was really great.

I've got confidence in Guillermo Del Toro.

Well i had confidence in GDT delivering a good movie anyway, but after watching Pan's Labyrinth, i am practically certain HB2 will be awesome.

Im really looking foward to this movie. Im even looking forward to the 1st trialer. I'm 100% confident this movie is gonna be good because of the cast, and mostly because of GDT.

I love that Johann Kraus is in it. He's awesome, I hope they tell his backstory.

I love the first movie but what I heard about the script for the second it's almost only action, action and action... and also it's in this style: 'from place A to B to C... :csad:

Superman 2 BETTER than part one, not quite; otherwise your list was pretty much on the mark.

i gotta agree with AVEITWITHJAMON after watching the amazing pans labyrinth i am really looking forward to hellboy 2, i just hope its as fantastical ( is that even a word ) in its atmosphere with the whole goblin/fairies mythical world etc................

Hey gang, new to the board.

At Comic Con, Javier Soto, the producer of the DVD for Hellboy 2 (seems they now plan the future DVD release as the film is being shot) talked at a panel for upcoming DVD's. Since they had just begun shooting, Javier said that he didn't have anything to show us any footage but that Hellboy 2 is going to be a mix of Hellboy and Pan's Labryinth.

The way Javier spoke, GDT is even MAKING things like scenes that won't be in the theatrical release but as a special feature for the DVD. It almost sounded like a subplot might be done. Maybe the origin of Johann???

Unless it's something along the lines of Hellboy Animated: Blood and Iron's short stories, deliberately making "deleted scenes" that won't appear in the movie seems like a poor way to separate us from our money. I suppose it would be different if he's planning on putting these on the Director's Cut or something (I'll buy it, either way).

Johann Kraus' origin would be nice - but I recall reading somewhere that Del Toro mentioned we might not see a pre-disembodied Johann.

I wouldnt say Batman Returns was better but thats besides the point. Im really excited for this movie I look forward to the fight sequences and Del Toro's storytelling. Del Toro is the next Tim Burton in my eyes...

Yeah, and HB2 sounds like it will be darker and more atmospheric than PL from what i have heard.

Firstly, welcome to the hype!

Secondly, that sounds great, i hope we get a director's cut again.

GDT's awesome. I'm most interested in his elves and trolls. For too long, elves have been portrayed as "holier-than-thou" prettyboys. Trolls, we've not seen many of them in fantasy movies at all, except LOTR, where they resembled more giants, imo, and didn't really act like trolls at all.

I'm still holding out the hope that his At The Mountains of Madness script is picked up by a studio.

I'm als getting good vibes about this, only because everyone is back and the 1st movie, while flawed, was IMO a great piece of storytelling, directing and mythology. More of the same but a step further is what I expect.

I'm pretty much expecting the same, its just shame GDT couldnt have got a bit more budget.

Being that this is going to be competing with The Dark Knight, I certainly hope a third movie is warranted.

This fullfilment of Hellboy's prophecy could be one of the darkest stories ever translated to the big screen. Wake the Devil would be a good place for Del Toro to draw information, though maybe instead of resurrecting the vampire Girescu, it could be Rasputin again. This would especially work out if the Kroenen cameo is allowed.

If Hellboy's true origin was shown in the third one, I don't honestly know if I could bear it. No comic story has ever, ever freaked me out as much as that one. :csad:

Thats why they should move HB2, its not going to compete with TDK on any level, simple as. Universal are stupid if they dont movie it.

I cant wait to see Doug Jones as the Angel of Death.

Del Toro and Mignola are gonna rewrite the book on how to portray elves...:word:

Goblins supposedly build this army. I wonder if they'll be tweaked in any way. Usually, they're stupid, powerful, and found in large numbers. Perhaps if the goblins are redesigned, they could be pyromanic machinsts/waxing philosophers.

Trolls are new territory as well for fantasy flicks. I think the old heathen myths surrounding them are just fine. They're also known to be in the changeling group, but for Hellboy, that should be left to Daoine Sidhe and his fairies.
