Well I'm not sure if any of you have seen the trailers for AVP: Requiem, but it looks like a gory, bloody R-rated mess (which is absolutely AWESOME).
Check out the R-rated trailer here:

The movie's predessessor was Aliens vs Predator, which unfortunately was directed Paul W.S. Anderson. That movie was also forced to be a nuetered PG-13 flick by the studio and Paul Anderson, being the tool that he is, made it exactly that way..and with financial success to boot.

Now lots of you might be asking, what does Aliens vs Predator have to do with Ghost Rider? I'll I'm going to say is...both movies share the same curse..and that is they are both horrific sci-fantasy icons that were unjustly PG-13'ed by the Studios and directed horribly by men who have been known to nullify great action heroes, albeit with relative financial success. Coincidentally, both AVP and Ghost Rider have the exact same movie rating on IMDB: A dismal 5.4 out of 10
AVP got a sequel, but luckily new hungry directors, the Strausse Brothers (risky since their biggest achievements were Music Videos), have said the movie has to be rated-R and they allow the characters to roam naturally in an adult-horror-themed environment the way they were meant to be. The Strausse brother's vigilance is a trailer that personally blew me away. This is what I expected of the AVP franchise, and we are finally getting it.
Is the story going to be shallow? Ofcourse..the name itself tells the story in 3 words - ALIENS vs PREDATOR...derived from a dark and violent comic book exploring their worlds and battles. 'nuff said.
But is that okay so long as the characters are shown the way they should be? Yes.
Lets get to the bottom line: Will this movie make money? I certainly hope so because studios & directors who understand the material and how it should be portrayed deserve a nice financial boost.
Ghost Rider deserves a director who understands the material and the story and wants to portray the character in the environment he was meant to be in.
Bottomline, Ghost Rider deserves a Rated R adult themed story. A character as horrific as Ghost Rider deserves the most outrageously evil villains that don't hesitate to wear the skin of their fallen victims (ie. Skinner, Kazann, etc), and it deserves a director (or directors) who understand that a man with his face burning off is not PG-13.
If AVP-Requiem is a success, its time for Sony to rethink their silly PG-13 policy for Ghost Rider.
