This thread is about comparing and contrasting the differences in Ghost Rider & Ghost Rider: SOV, although the latter hasn't come out yet we still enough to discuss the two.

  • Which Ghost Rider sull design do you like best and do which outfit do you prefer?

  • Do you like the chopper from the first film or the V-Max in GR: SOV?

  • Which film as the best trailers, tv spots, and posters?

  • Is the foreign location for GR: SOV an improvement or is the American southwest setting of the first film more suited to your tastes?

Those are just some of the differences that we can discuss right now and BE SURE to return after you've seen SOV to talk about things like which has the better story, better villain, and overall better film.

Well, I can safely say that the first movie is more faithful to the comics without having seen the 2nd movie. I'm still a bit pissed we arent getting the proper Blackout, but the trailers and spots for the new movie do make it look really entertaining, if it is I will enjoy it no matter what.

True, but the movie version of Blackheart wasn't really all that faithful to the comics either and I kind of like the new powers they've given Blackout (regular Blackout is GR's punching bag).

I'd say the Blackheart in movie 1 is more faithful than the Blackout in movie 2, Blackheart had similar powers to comic-book counter part at least. And while Blackout wasnt really a match for GR in the comics, he used tactics and intellegence to compete with him rather than strength, which I always liked about him.

Hey may have similar powers, but Blackout does look alot more like his comic book counter-part than Blackheart.

I'm liking everything about GR: SOV more than GR.

I hated the villains in GR. Especially Blackheart. He didn't seem dangerous enough for me.

Blackout has only had a few quick scenes in the trailers, but he already seems more dangerous.

I liked the chopper in GR. But I'm really digging the new bike.

Overall, I like GR's look in the 1st film. But seeing the new design; the first one is cleaner. While the new design is more gritty, rough and more textured.

I'm one of the few who thinks Nic Cage was one of the few things that worked in GR.

His 1st transformation is ballsy and off the wall. I loved it.

HATED the fact a stuntman played GR the majority of the time in GR. Wasted opportunity in my book.

^^^ I agree on all counts, I just hope this film's gives us a coll transformation scene like the one in the first film.

Yeah, looks wise Blackout looks closer to the comics, but he is also a lot easier to pull off looks-wise than Blackheart, the latter would have needed to be 100% CGI in the first movie and they just didnt have the budget for it.

^^^ True

One of the few things I liked better about Ghost Rider 1 was the size of the flame on GR's head, I think his flame is a little small and it doesn't cover up his entire head in GR: SOV.

^Yeah I was thinking that after seeing some pictures the other day, I think the SOV look with the flame-size of the first movie would be perfect.

Also, I wonder if the Penance Stare is in this movie?

^^^ Yeah that would be nice, I like the realistic look of the flame in SOV I just wish there was more of it.

They said the Penance Stare is in the movie and it looks different in this film, I hope it kind of looks like orange "beams"s shooting from his eye similar to when GR used it on Galactus in the 90's F4 cartoon.

Here's what I'm talking about - http://youtu.be/bumuAmQ92mY

I think in both movies the flame looks pretty real, just would have been happier with more of it in SOV.

Yeah I love that clip of him doing the PS to Galactus. That effect would be cool on screen.

What I meant was that I like how dynamic the flame looks in SOV, because it's moves alot more like real fire but yeah they both looked pretty realistic.

Have you guys seen the pictures of Cage in GR gear. That's exactly what was missing in the first movie!

Cage has painted his face completely white with black around his eyes; and he's wearing black contact lenses that cover his eyes completely.

A goofy stuntman definitely wouldn't have thought of that. Plus they're using practical effects on both Cage's head and the Hellbike itself.

Thank you Neveldine/Taylor for coming from a world of movie-making with practical effects.

^ Yeah I've seen them and I think it's great, the stuntman in GR was too stiff so I'm happy they're going with Cage as the one who plays Ghost Rider.

The fact that they're using practical effects mixed with CGI is also very cool, that's why Ghost Rider looks so awesome in this film.

Agreed practical stunts make the character seem a lot more dynamic.

The difference between GR action in the first film vs the 2nd film is like the difference of seeing a lion in the shade in a zoo, sleeping vs seeing a lion devouring a gazelle in a safari.

Agreed, in this film it seems like Ghost Rider no "holds barred" while the first film was like Ghost Rider-lite.

The penance stare won't be glowing eyebeams. I'm pretty sure of that. The directors talk about a lot of it coming from the performance of the actor playing the "target".

That doesn't mean they still can't be fiery eye beams, the actor playing the target has nothing to do with it.

No offense but how can properly compare the two movies while none of us has already watched the second one yet ?

Based on the second trailer alone, I do prefer the new Blaze/GR look overall.

No one talked about it but the skull has less flames around it than the first one, you can clearly see the skull more than them and that's something I do dig personnally.

I'm also digging Blackout as the main "physical" villain for the Rider and, from the still pics and trailer, he does look like Blackout body wise so sounds good to me.

The first one was such an abortion of a movie, watching the trailer alone was a huge pain.

The second one, I m having a blast watching on loop the second trailer and I was surprised in a good way (even If it looks extremely cheesy and ridiculous in part (I thinking of Christopher Lambert and his cast of tattooed priests, screams Z Flick)

^ Simple, read the ENTIRE opening post I know you can't fully compare a movie that hasn't been out yet but we know more than enough to compare them in some form.

Fine, i admit i misread it , so I did properly and here are my answers (how newbies are accepted on this part of the board :woot:)

- Which Ghost Rider sKull design do you like best and do which outfit do you prefer? SOV one easily for the reasons I've stated above.

I like how the skull is not dominated by bright flames and how you can see some black smoke surrounding it.

Props to Cage for that since he used make up a la "baron samedi" (remember me a villain in a James Bond featuring Roger Moore) and the two directors using more the actor himself and less CGI than on the first flick.

- Do you like the chopper from the first film or the V-Max in GR: SOV? :

Definitively the new one, looks more bad ass to me.

- Which film as the best trailers, tv spots, and posters?

SOV by a wild margin. To me, the second trailer is better than the first movie in full length.

- Is the foreign location for GR: SOV an improvement or is the American southwest setting of the first film more suited to your tastes?

It's an improvement in the sense that the first GR was filmed on sets only.

Here it's in real locations so it will give this new flick a totally different and unique flavor.

Cool

I agree with you on all counts and sorry for the misunderstand I didn't notice your post count so I didn't realize you were a "newbie".

Welcome aboard and the few us of here in the Ghost Rider threads appreciate you joining us. :woot:

I wonder which movie will end up with better reviews? I think SOV is going to get even poorer reviews than the first movie for some reason.
