Ramis on Ghostbusters 3
Who could be the new star?
by Stax
May 16, 2006 - In a report attributed to InFocus Magazine, and picked up by various outlets including Hollywood.com, actor-filmmaker Harold Ramis offered up some details on the long-in-development sequel, Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent. He even suggested who might take over as the star of the franchise since Bill Murray refuses to.

Ramis reportedly wants franchise vets Dan Aykroyd and Rick Moranis to reprise their respective roles in the sequel, which the report claims will be called Ghostbusters in Hell, but he has his eye on A-lister Ben Stiller to star as a new Ghostbuster.

The script, written by Aykroyd, is said to feature a hell that looks alot like New York City. The Ghostbusters are able to be transported into hell via a portal in a New York warehouse.

"What Danny had originally conceived was sending us to a special-effects hell, a netherworld full of phenomenal visual environments and boiling pits," Ramis revealed. "But what works so well about the first two (films) is the mundane-ness of it all. So my notion was that hell exists in the same place as our consensus reality, but it's like a film shutter. It's the darkness between the 24 frames.

Ramis continued, "So we create a device to do it, and it's in a warehouse in Brooklyn. When we step out of the chamber, it looks just like New York, but it's hell. Everything's grid-locked; no cars are moving and all the drivers are swearing at each other in different foreign languages. No two people speak the same language. It's all the worst things about modern urban life, just magnified."

I like where it's going, also I dig Ben Stiller....

Ben Stiller is okay, but he's not Bill Murray.

Heck, I think they should have stopped at Ghostbusters 1, although it would be nice to see Aykroydin a lead role again.

it won't happen as much as i'd like it to

and those quotes seem very old.

My old pals back at GB.net say it's old news being re-reported for some strange reason. I hope it's not though. This movie must be made to balance out the number of unnecessary sequels and garfield 2's we'll be getting and have gotten over the years. Part of me knows there'll be an evolution 2 before there's ever a gb3 though.

they should be eyeing vince vaughn, he is the new bill muarry.

I remember this from a long time ago, it was some misinterperted quote I think. Ah wel.

They shouldve left this franchise alone after the 1st one

Look at some of the recent pictures of Ramis, he's NOT a Ghostbuster anymore.

Guys let it go. We don't need a sequel for this movie and there won't be one.

I like the Ghost Busters, I am excited about this idea, feel these nipples!

I was talking about my thoughts for a GB sequel to a co-worker of mine the other day.

One thing that's for sure is that we're gonna HAVE to have new Ghostbusters. The previous ones are just too old to play them anymore, as much as we'd all love to have them back.

BUT, who says we can't still have the guys around?

How about a story where the old Ghostbusters are now dead (for whatever reason you wish), but are now THEMSELVES haunting the firehouse? They wouldn't be scary ghosts, but more Casper-like ghosts. They're just dead guys who just aren't ready to go home quite yet. Perhaps they've been killed by Satan or something paranormal, and they are stuck as ghosts in the firehouse until their deaths are avenged?

This would alow for the recruitment of new ghostbusters, while still having the veterans hanging out at the firehouse. They would even be able to mentor the noobs there. We'd still get to see them argue with each other, and do all the comedic things they've done in the previous films...they just won't be alive.

Imagine the great irony of having the Ghostbusters themselves now being ghosts! The end of the movie would end with the vets going off to heaven, thus effectively handing off the torch to the noobs, which would promise more sequels.

And if Bill Murray unfortunately doesn't want to be a part in this? Then the story can have him off somewhere with Dana and child when the whole death happens to the other guys. No need to see him in the movie, but a mention of Peter being off living a good life would be enough.

Oh, and they've GOT to get Dane Cook to play one of the new 'Busters!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

So embarrassing and depressing to see only 2 of 'em come back, but outrageous BLASPHEMY to have Ben Focker instead of Bill Murray (God).

God...

My ideal new GB lineup:

Harrison Ford is doing Indiana Jones again, and he's old. It will be called raiders of the lost walker!!! no offense to Harrison the man is an awesome actor and an accredited one as well. but talk about not giving up a roll!

It is a good concept. (though I swear it's an old report when I read it) but it just shouldn't be done. And I like Stiller...but no just...no

It is too bad we never got 3 solid films to really go crazy with in terms of stories Aykroyd dreams up.

Guess we got the cartoons...

Ghostbusters is as much about the actors as it is the concept. You can't replace the Ghostbusters.

Anyway, as many have pointed out, the 'Ney York is hell' angle was done to death by the Ghostbusters films in the 80's.

If Bill does not return then please guys dont bother making this. If this does happen I wonder if Ernie Hudson would come back ? Its not like hes doing much these days

that's... not a bad idea. most of it anyway.

i also really like the idea of having Rainn Wilson in it, too. actually, screw it, have vaughn, wilson, carrell, throw farrell in there (as long as he's out of this unfunny slump he's been in by then) and a couple others, and i say go for it.

 He really, really isn't. Bill Murray is deadpan.

Oh hell yes. Carrell would make a fine GB.
