I think Reitman's idea is actually very good.
But, they need to find a reason why that is happening, a reason why the supernatural becomes part of the everyday life.
A bit like "the veil between the living world and the dead world is collapsing".

BTW, i still haven't watch the new Ghostbusters.

Only watched the Honest Trailer. And I regret even doing that.

Didn't Feig specifically say that the old version didn't exist in his version? I don't see how the two universes can come together if Bill Murray's Venkman and the others never existed in his universe.

I think about the only thing Reitman can do is do a new movie that continues the 1984 version and just pretend the new one didn't happen.

Parallel universes/teams has been a major thing in the modern Ghostbusters comics.

I can see a animated movie possibly happening. I think there is a snowball's chance in hell of another live action movie with the last cast. I don't think a sequel would do any better than the first film.

Harold Ramis' Daughter Addresses 'Ghostbusters 3' Possibly Including a CG Egon
Ryan Parker said:
"Personally, for me, it is hard to imagine that people would accept it, but who knows. The technology now is amazing."

Ivan Reitman made headlines over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, where the producer/director said there may be another live action Ghostbusters down the road.

Reitman made the comment while discussing possible projects in a panel related to the beloved franchise, which included "wonderful plans for an animated feature that we're deep in design on already and a really great story ... And of course a new live-action film. I am not giving any more secrets," he said.

Screen Rant reported that Reitman was asked during the panel if any consideration was given to creating a CG version of any of the original cast, which would include the late Harold Ramis for Egon, if the possible fourth film changed gears from the 2016 female-led reboot, to which the director said "It’s possible … it’s something we’re thinking of."

On Monday, Ramis' daughter, Violet Ramis Stiel, told Heat Vision she was aware of Reitman's comments over the weekend.

"It's bizarre," Ramis Stiel said of the possible digital re-creation of her late father. "Personally, for me, it is hard to imagine that people would accept it, but who knows. The technology now is amazing."

Ramis died in 2014 at the age of 69. In 2016, his daughter penned a touching essay about growing up with her dad on the sets of movies like Ghostbusters.

Bringing actors back from the dead for a film has been somewhat controversial. When the legendary Peter Cushing was re-created for Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, some fans praised how far technology had come to allow the effect to happen and to look so eerily great. But there were others who said it was disrespectful to the late actor. The Cushing estate gave its blessing for the endeavor.

The original stars of Ghostbusters have talked for decades about a possible third installment to follow up Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghosbusters II (1989). Those have yet to materialize, but the 2016 reboot was a commercial bomb. It's unclear how serious talks of a third film starring the original cast really are.

Ramis Stiel said if — and it may be a huge if, who really knows — another Ghostbusters is made and her father is digitally added, it would be OK with her as long as the work is exceptional.

"I try to think what would he have thought," she said. "If it's great and it works, then good. And if there is a problem, then obviously no."

Ugh, no. But if they feel they absolutely have to do a third one, don't do a digital Egon, bring in a new fourth character. Ramis can't be replaced.

I can only assume they'd use it for a short scene where Egon gets pulled to the other side or something.

No! please let this franchise on film die already! the last movie was a flop and killed the franchise as sometimes it's better to kill something than let it suffer. This franchise is now like a wounded half-dead animal for the last 26 years since Real GBs ended and nothing else good has came out since then! i mean Extreme Ghostbusters was ok and the only good thing during the time line was the merchandise, the IDW comics and the video game, all other post 1991 video games (except 2009) even last year's video game Ghostbusters were horrible and the remake flopped and got mixed reviews yet i despised it and so did OcpCommunications with his funny mega-rant review on youtube, i mean i'm all for kickass female movies that are their own like Atomic Blonde to Kill Bill or Alien franchise to based on established female hero properties like Wonder Woman but you shouldn't ride the cottontails of past glories. This franchise never needed to be continued in film. They couldn't get a cast reunion together outside the video game and after Harold Ramis died any idea about a third film should have been put to rest. They had plenty of material to work with the franchise in other mediums. It didn't need saving as a film franchise. It left enough of a legacy as a pop culture icon of the 80s to stay as a two film series. The problem is film studios are too greedy for their own good and think that established franchise films coming back hold some kind of guaranteed profit margins based on brand name alone. Nobody is smart enough to look at a brand like Ghostbusters and properly and efficiently determine the best ways to utilize it based on the fanbase and the legacy it holds.

Look at Back to the future as an example of utilizing the brand in ways that don't mess with the legacy it left. They show enormous respect to their fanbase coming out with different merchandise even comics to books and apparel and media over the years. They know you can't recreate the magic they had so they let the franchise live on through the fans love of the trilogy. Ghostbusters did so well with the video game. They gave their fans something so authentic and respectful to the films that it's such a shame they had to go the route they did for GB2016 in order to bank off its name. No respect, no love, no passion for a beloved property. Completely shameful even with a ****** poorly written script (lacks the intelligence/wit/sarcasm of the original's brilliant script which is one of the best scripts i've read as Harold is spinning in his grave now), unfunny humor (anti-humor), poor pacing that goes on too long and all that as it's proof of what some 80s and 90s comedy did right and what some modern comedy is doing wrong, it was just a hollow empty shell of a movie that lacked the spirit of what made Ghostbusters worked plus the worst film i've seen last year as i gave it zero stars. Now GB 2 is not as good as the original but still had some moments even the talk about lunch which is my fave part of GB 2.

They need to leave this film franchise alone in favor of new franchises like John Wick and it died with Harold Ramis. Sometimes dead is better! this franchise is dead with Harold Ramis, period! anything else without him and his genius is a ****** cash grab. The remake will be forgotten in a year like that wretched Ninja Turtles the Next Mutation show from the late 90s which had Venus that people would love to forget which was a big stain on the turtles franchise for a while plus needs to go in the containment unit of other bad remakes like Elm Street and so on and the original remembered as a classic that is influential and that you can't strike lightning in a bottle always. But those hollywood parasites don't know when to let something be dead.

Who agrees this franchise and it's spirit died when Harold passed on?

The thought of a new Ghostbusters movie , animated or otherwise , just gets me excited . I admit to not being excited about the reboot but after watching it I don't think it was nearly as bad as it was made out to be . I love the Ghostbusters franchise . Watch the movies every Halloween, grew up spending Sat mornings watching The Real Ghostbusters, and everything else . I have a interest in the supernatural and Ghostbusters blends that and comedy together so well . I think the biggest issue with the newest one was they completely disregarded the original series and in doing so it alienated a lot fans . I get the whole "girlpower" angle they were going for but I think a new team of guys and girls that paid respect and acknowledged the originals would have went over so much better . I'm all for showing women as the heroes and not having them
Be damsels in distress but there was a better way to do it I think than the route they took . Seems like the announcement made about a new film seems to cement the fact the studio knows it could have done better than it did . Ghostbusters is a wonderful franchise that can still be very profitable and enjoyable . They just have to find the right people and all to show the respect the originals deserve and it's fans .

Ivan Reitman Wants ‘Ghostbusters’ Franchise To Go Worldwide, Teams To Unite

In the off chance that another one of these ever gets made, I still think they should combine these two approaches.

Even when Ramis was still alive, I was never excited by the prospect of another go-round with the original cast, and didn't hold out any serious hope of it ever happening. So just pick up with the start of a new GB franchise in some other city all these years later.

I wouldn't mind an approach where the Ghostbusters have franchised out and there are teams located in different cities , like the IDW International title . I'd even have the team focused on in the new film to take place in a southern state. New Orleans , Atlanta , Montgomery, etc . Being from the South myself I can say we are loaded down with urban legends and ghost stories . I mean not every movie has to take place in New York . Between all the Superhero films , action movies , etc let's give the Big Apple a break. Just have the original cast make cameos and make mention of them retiring out due to the loss of Egon or something

Redlettermedia just uploaded their new Plinkett review, Ghostbusters 2016 is the subject.

The Karate Kid (original 80s franchise) is getting a series on Youtube red (for whatever reason they shot down a NetFlix deal). If they can get a series, I don't see why a new ghostbusters series can't get greenlit in a heartbeat.

Ghostbusters has already had a TV series. It's a cartoon series, but it's been done.

Karate Kid got a cartoon series too, those were both 30 years ago.

So yet another movie I did end up liking, like the Star Wars prequels, that will now any time I bring it up in conversation, get responses in the vein of "Did you watch the Plinkett reviews? Well he says the film is garbage because....".

I'll never care for the reviews, and way too many people are too quick to quote them as gospel.

The extended cut came on FX last night, and it actually was a pretty funny flick.

I think the wrong people who don't know how to critique film quote them as absolute gospel as a means to just avoid an argument. But they usually are the best at reviewing these. Unlike most reviewers, Plinkett always judges them on their own terms and engages with the material and even if you disagree with them, they're incredibly insightful.

I love the prequels, and I think the reason they're considered the gold standard because for the very first time somebody actually judged the movies properly in a depthful, thoughtful way. If anything the reviews makes me more entertained by them.
