GI Joe movie thoughts

Have him play Deep Six...it can be like Titanic 2: This Time It's Personal.

I also have a very radical idea for these films that will most surely come under heavy fire. I'm sure you all have heard of WWE Films. Why not let WWE do this with a large amount of wrestlers. In a way, their wrestling characters are similar to what would be needed if based on the cartoon. I think it would work.

A few things.

Halle Berry was a star at the time of X Men. The biggest "name" in the movie...also, the worst actor.
No...I'm serious. She wasn't. You just assume this based on her popularity now.

This is going to sound incredibly sexist, but trust me, I love women, especially the hot ones! Women don't "open" movies. Its just a fact. You put Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, or any of about 20 other actors in the lead role of a film and it will guarantee a good opening weekend. Women simply arent as reliable as leads. Who ya got? Demi Moore was considered a huge star...until all of her starring vehicles bombed. Julie Roberts was at one point a bankable name...but by and large...having a certain woman in a movie will not overly increase the success of that movie.

That said, Katie Holmes...though Batfans did not watch Dawsons Creek...they did know a hot chick when they saw one...and at the time katie was about as universally considered hot as any chick who can act. She had just come out of a breakthrough performance in Pieces Of April and it looked like she might be the next sex symbol chick to actually become an accomplished actress...then she dropped the ball...when she bent down to pick it up that ball had turned into a scientologist and her credibility has been shattered.
Perhaps they are hot chicks...but no one went to the movie to see them. They put them in the movie because the movie world exists in a parrallel time and space where people have to be attractive. Even the ugliest among the Bat-cast is still more idlic than the average person. Chances are they went to see Batman, X-Men, Punisher or whomever's character was the movie spotlight. Their are plenty of hot chicks in the real world and on screen...and yet guys don't flock in droves to every movie that has "hot chicks".

Funny this came up. I have Dicaprio in my script as.....

... Falcon.

Interesting. Leo could definately play an ******* drug addicted green beret.

Their wrestling characters aren't anything like the Joes. The only wrestler I'd want to see in a G.I. Joe movie would be Sgt. Slaughter, since the character was directly based on him.

Forget Halle Berry! She isn't even going to be in this! The debate is wether or not Hargitay is Lady Jaye- yeah or nay.

my vote...

nay

First of all...I AGREE...my point is that Katie Holmes, or Halle berry...or ANY female lead...does not add money to a films box office.

Also, I knew very well who Halle Berry was when she was cast in X Men. She was not a mystery to me, even though I had never seen any of the movies shed been in. That means she was a star. As a loser dork, I also knew who Patrick Stewart was, but I doubt the majority of society could name him...and certainly not Ian McKellan at the time. X Men was a hit based on its concept, not the actors in it.

I actually had Slaughter and his mercs in my original idea. Slaughter as himself and as the mercs.

Taurus/ Steve Austin

Red Dog/ The Rock

Mercer/John Cena

Imagine Dicaprio as Falcon trying to hang with them.:woot:

Interesting. Falcon could even end up shocking them by showing how absolutely brutal and nasty he is when dealing with the bad guys.

Why not? I know he's a bit older, but he could still play a military veteran type.

Ok, first off, I agree with all those guys, Halle Berry was huge at the time of X-men? I know myself, as well as most others remember her killer role in Flintstones the movie....

Wait...no thats right, no one had any idea who the frick she was until she did her big movies. SOME people might be able to say, "oh yeah, she's that woman, married to that athlete, she acts or something doesn't she?"

So no, the big draw of X-men, was, surprise, X-MEN!

Ray Parks for Snake-Eyes, I'll work on good ol' Mr. Hauser and the rest and get back to ya'll

Slaughter couldn't play himself anymore.

Yeah, I thought of that as a possibility. Slaughter is 59 right now, that's about 10 years too old. The question is, if you use Austin, Rock, and Cena what wrestler plays Sgt. Slaughter?

we all want bruce campbell, what about him as ShipWreck?

He seems to have the perfect personality for it, slap a beard on him and voila, there ya go.

YES!!! That is perfect!!! Except for one thing...

Shipwreck's name is Hector X. Delgado. Although he was never portrayed as being an ethnic character it may be best to have him played by someone who is Hispanic, for reality the effect. Unfortunately there is not a lot of quality Hispanic actors. One that came to mind:

Benicio Del Toro as Shipwreck
BenicioDelToro.jpg

Shipwreck was adopted, (at least he was in the cartoons, can't remember about the comics) so you could probably play it either way.

Looked like a white guy in both the comics and cartoons. Spoke like a white guy in the cartoon. You're right, it could go either way. My original choice was a white guy. Del Toro could do it well in my opinion. However, Campbell could be good for a comedic element which would be necessary for a GI Joe film.

I'm not so good with actors because I dont pay much attention to whos playing the roles unless Im really impressed, but some of these are just crazy.

Do we even need Mercer in a GI Joe film?? Maybe as cobra cannon fodder and thats about it.

Second, we cant have this movie based on the cartoon, where Shipwreck Dusty and Bazooka are sent on an arctic mission or some nonsense.

We need Grunt, Rock n Roll, Stalker, Zap, Snake Eyes, Scarlet, Hawk, Steeler, Clutch, Short Fuse...those types...leave the secondary guys who have specialties..like a Shipwreck...to sequels...IF they are needed. Honestly, id kill most of the names I mentioned...I think that GI Joe is NOT a movie for kids, since kids these days have never heard of it. Youre appealing to men 18-100...so give them a good war movie. I guess you could throw in a few of the bigger names like Duke in order to make people happy, but I would prefer, at least to start off, a straight up war movie, no Zartan, no Eco-warriors, and DAMN SURE no Cobra-La

Do we need Mercer? No. Will we use him in 1 of the 6 scripts? Yes.

Dusty should not be on an arctic mission but Bazooka and Shipwreck possibly. This is why, if you view my previous character list, I have 102 characters to incorporate. Because you won't have Dusty, Shipwreck, or Bazooka in an arctic setting or a jungle setting. Someone has to take their places.

Grunt - yes
Rock 'n Roll - yes
Stalker - yes
Snake Eyes - yes
Scarlett - yes
Hawk - yes
Zap, Clutch, Steeler, & Short Fuse - maybe, but only in minor roles.

As for Shipwreck, he is not just a secondary guy or special units person. He is a Navy S.E.A.L., a Chief Petty Officer(maybe a Mastert Chief), and he is basically THE NAVAL EXPERT of G.I. Joe. Just like Wild Bill is THE AIR FORCE expert. Shipwreck may not have a lead role but he will at least have the top secondary role.

I agree, it's not for kids. I don't think it will be made any less than a PG-13 rating. Personally, I want it more like Apocalypse Now than the G.I. Joe animated series. We will probably get something inbetween. My vision for G.I. Joe can be best described as 'Apocalypse Now meets Happy Days.'

I appreciate your desire for G.I. Joe to be a war movie and agree. The live action G.I. Joe movie should have some awesome war scenes, however...
we don't want a G.I. Joe movie. We want G.I. Joe moviessssss. As in a trilogy, a trilogy of trilogies - at least.

I have the ground work laid for a compendium of 12 G.I. Joe films. The last three are a stretch but there is PLENTY of room for Zartan. So much so that I have him and the Dreadnok's as the main villains in one of the films. Like other comic book films(Batman, Superman, Spiderman) the villains must change to keep intrest. Although COBRA will still be the head villain in charge of it all they will not be the focal point. I have Cobra La in my version right now but they could easily be worked out. Why? because they allow us to take G.I. Joe into the world of Sci Fi!!!

An example of what I mean:
Part 12 - G.I. Joe: Beyond Space and Time

As for Duke, never met anyone who liked Puke. Though as I have grown older he is becoming a very intresting character. The fact that only mature adults like Duke tells you what type of film this should be...

If my idea actually came to fruition and all 12 films were completed... there is an idea for the final piece... the final film to absolutely complete the series...
PART 13 - G.I. JOE:WARPED:trans:

As for casting, let the public vote on it. We'll see what the majority thinks about G.I. Joe and comics and 'acting ability.' The top 25 characters will be voted on by the public. Whichever actors don't win a part get heavy consideration for the other roles.

Blame it on a moralist cartoon. :D

Duke's been a tough harda$$$ from day one. It's just that the cartoon needed an enthousiast goody-two-shoes spouting 5 cents wisdom about why they fought every two episodes. And who else to do it than the leader, right?

But the funny part is that there's been somewhat of a 180 with the character with the last of the Marvel comics and the Devil's Due ones. It just took a while for writers/people to aknowledge he's not that bad of a simplistic tool. :D

Duke's essentially the ruthless SOB you don't necessarily like, but you'd kill to have him in your corner. Of course kids don't get that. :D

Refer to the Cyclops/Wolverine thingy from most x-verses. :D

Oh, and as for the casting.

Leo as Falcon? I could see that.

Who would you have in mind for Duke?

Okay, let me explain how I see Duke in a film. Although he has officials above him, he is not necessarily 'with them.' He loves the grunt *****. Duke should stand out if because of nothing else, at least that. If you have all star casting on both sides of Duke(his troops and the higher ranks) then whom do you cast to make Duke 'special?' May not make sense to most because it barely makes sense to me but in an all star cast the role of Duke in none other than...

mtvmovie05a_g2.jpg

Not as big name as a lot of the actors cast in lesser roles but I believe he could pull off who I see Duke as. Even better than my first choice...
Viggo%20Mortensen.jpg

Yes, I came up with Viggo before I saw this...
GI_JOE_movie_cast_Toyfare.jpg

Man Duke was always my favorite, then Deep-Six, Shipwreck and Torpedo....

Viggo would be a pretty good choice actually, although he's gotta have the buzz cut. It's Mr. Hausers trademark, like Cobra Commanders mask or Shipwrecks beard. The look is key. But I really think Viggo could pull it off quite well.
