From the images I saw of Sidewinder from the comics, visually the character looks pretty cool.

I wonder if the "Serpent Society" composes of literal snake-like humans. That would be cool though I wouldn't be surprised if they are just normal humans.

Esposito is great, but it's a nothing role. He's basically the Batroc or Brock Rumlow of this movie. It's a waste of his talents. It makes no sense to me to waste Esposito on a two-bit mercenary henchman role. It's like casting Emilia Clarke in Secret Invasion. So many bigger more important characters ahead, and you're literally wasting a name such as Emilia Clarke on such an unimportant character? Why? Shouldn't she be Queen Anelle?

I liked the Sidewinder character but agree that Esposito seemed an odd choice for casting. This could have been a good role for Colman Domingo.

They really wasted Esposito in this sadly. He shows up in like 3 (?) scenes and has very little impact sadly. About the only positive you can say is that he got some marvel money to show up for this.

Esposito was dynamite in the role, as expected, but all of this is just beneath him and what he could bring to the table. Maybe he'll get to shine a bit more in another MCU project.

I thought his role would have been more important. They could have hired anyone in that role.

I think he's a wonderful actor but this role was written in such a way that at best you get a 6/10 performance because there's no meat to the bone so why even waste Esposito in it. Could have given him a much more interesting role in the MCU.

I was actually surprised how much he was included; which leads me to assume his character wasn’t a brand new addition but likely just replaced one/a few additional Serpent Society actors that were ultimately cut.

I was expecting the character to be a Rumlow-type, which he mostly was, so I find the Esposito casting a little off-the-mark here. He’s a good actor, but he just felt, I don’t know, old? Instead of Kang, Colman Domingo would have been cool to see in the role especially since he survives. But that’s fan-casting.

Corny code-names aside, I liked the Serpent Society

Serpent Society in this just looked like ordinary criminals. Nothing interesting about them visually. Kinda like MCU's Shocker without a cool weapon. I would expect some flair, like snake imagery, but no they wore everyday clothes.

This role would also be beneath Colman Domingo got an Oscar nomination. Frankly, I still think Heimdall was beneath Idris Elba.

They were two-bit mercenaries bringing guns to a superhero fight.

Yeah like I said, they could have hired anyone in that role.

Before this was released, they made a big deal out of Gian's casting and when I saw the film, the role was nothing special.

I also don't get why call him Sidewinder, when Sidewinder has a cool outfit in the comics and seems more animated, well the Serpent Society looks cool based from the comic pages. Their Mcu version, looked like random goons.

It's like Bane says in The Dark Knight Rises. No one cared about who he was until he put on the mask. If theatricality and iconography work for superheroes, then it would presumably work for villains as well.

I wish Marvel Studios were inspired by the Serpent Society's comic book look, even if its a bit unrealistic/costumey. Random goons in snake costumes. It would at least look something/quirky but they didn't even try in the costuming department. Adapting Serpent Society when they didn't even bother to adapt their comic book look is just meh. They could have named them as Bob's gang and it wouldn't have been an issue.

Absolutely; Domingo is a great actor. I just think he’d be a more interesting choice.

Esai Morales would have been good too; but he probably would have just ended up being too similar to his Mission: Impossible character.

Esposito seemed surprisingly up for this, even though I would have preferred he got a much more significant MCU role.

Dude probably got paid millions for a few days of work. I can see why.

True, although it feels like some actors phone in their performances even in these payday scenarios with lack of interest in the material.

I liked Esposito in this. I even liked him as Sidewinder. He was pretty badass. I will mourn for the likely demise of Diamondback and the rest of the Serpent Society, though. They wouldn't have worked in this movie, but I don't see them coming back at this point.

Still, I do think he served another important point. This is a Captain America movie, so I'm glad to see a Captain America villain still feature prominently, even if adapted.

So I guess this means we're getting a Serpent Society miniseries now? HYDRA is out. Serpent Society is in.

i remember they used Serpent Society as the fake title for Captain America 3, and I wondered, what it would have been like.

Then here in Captain America 4, they were sidelined over Hulk characters...

Is this speculation from you or is there a source?

I imagine this concept will come to pass right after thay Ten Rings series :o
