Early Wednesday morning, Hendrik Helmer woke with a terrible pain in his right ear. Helmer tried to suck out whatever was causing the ache with a vaccum cleaner. That only made the pain worse.
"When I stood up and it happened it would sort of hunch me over and drop me down to the ground," Helmer told the Australian Broadcasting Company. "I was hoping it wasn't a poisonous spider. I was hoping it didn't bite me."
The pain grew so severe that, eventually, his roommate's convinced him to go to the hospital. There, a doctor told Helmer she suspected a "little cockroach" was to blame.
In attempt to force the roach out, the doctor poured olive oil into Helmer's ear, but that just caused the roach to burrow deeper into his ear canal, where it eventually died.
"Near the 10 minute mark ... somewhere about there, he started to stop burrowing but he was still in the throes of death twitching," Helmer said.
Using tweezers, the doctor then pulled the roach from Helmer's ear.
"[The doctor] said, 'You know how I said a little cockroach, that may have been an underestimate'," he said.
"They said they had never pulled an insect this large out of someone's ear."

This freaks me out cuz we have a bit of a roach problem at the house

This is news? I thought this was fairly common. This happened to my mom. A pregnant cockroach burrowed into her ear while she was sleeping and she went to the hospital in the middle of the night with terrible pain. The doctor took it out by splashing it with vinnegar and pulling it out with tweezers piece by piece.

If you got bugs in your house, keep those covers over your head at night. Don't let the bedbugs bite has literally become truth.

This is horrible, yuck! lol

Bedbugs have made a resurgence in the last 5-10 years or so. That's why you have to watch out at cheap hotels/motels

I stayed at one for like a month and the last week after waking up numerous times thinking something was crawling on me I found a HUGE bunch of them all over the back of the bed and on the sides. I was pissed, I made them refund my money for the entire stay. They have even been popping up in nice hotels and libraries of all freaking places

That's why you bring a sleeping bag to sleep in hotels. Then you soak it in vinegar afterwards. :p

Oh my God, that is the stuff of nightmares

Not really common
How was her ear after that?

The old myth about earwigs going into peoples' ears and eat their brains (something parents told their kids to scare them) was long considered false. This proves otherwise :wow:

Why would they be called earwigs if not?

Aaaaand another reason to live in Norway.

No roaches...
