The Avengers Giant-Man the dropped Ball

^We've already seen Nick Fury in a half dozen scenes. He's going to be a lot more prominent that Saruman. Coulson is already there towards the middle when infighting is going on. Clearly more relevant to the story than Biblo. We are not in the dark on this, really.

At the end of the day, the general audience still doesn't take superheroes for granted. Super powered beings without suitable explanation are thought of as cartoony. That's why you can't just shove Giant Man into the Avengers movie without his solo movie.

I, on the other hand, think that, if given a unique cinematographic take, Giant Man can be exceptionally cinematic, if you play with that scale instead of just throw it up there and expect the audience to be impressed with SFX that's been used for comedy for the past thirty years.

And of course, all this goes to the fact that Edgar Wright is working on an Ant-Man film that doesn't go in MCU continuity. I can think of many reasons why Feige wouldn't push making Giant-Man MCU-ready, but the reality is that Giant-Man had a direction before Avengers was on the table, and Giant-Man's direction hasn't changed.

What means "a lot"? Remember, in the Fellowship of the Ring, Saruman had scenes

- talking with Gandalf
- fighting with Gandalf
- interrogating Gandalf (= Gandalfs' escape)
- summoning a storm
- talking to himself about Moria and hinting at the balrog
- giving orders to his orcs
- watching his orcs work
- creating Uruk-Hai and giving them orders to attack the fellowship

I'd say that Saruman had more screentime in Fellowship of the Ring than the Emperor had in Return of the Jedi.

And I'm not sure about Coulson being more importan to the story than Bilbo.

I was ecstatic knowing that his character and the friggin' Wasp weren't in this film.

I'd love to see Giant Man as one of the Avengers, and I think we will in the sequels. I thought the Cyclopes looked great in Wrath Of The Titans, so I think the CGI is defenitly there to make Pym look awesome when he morphs into Giant Man.

I'm with you, Giant Man and the Wasp would not add anything to this movie. They have powers and backstories that need to be explained which will eat up screentime. Also, having powers eats up VFX money. Using Hawkeye and Black Widow is so much better, their backstories are easily explained as exceptional SHIELD agents. Them not having powers also gives the film danger since they're much easier to hurt than the other character. Not having powers besides incredible fighting/weapon skills means the cost less to put on film. Really we're not going to miss anything not having Giant Man and Wasp, they have some story elements, but do we really want to take the time to explain them?

Says you.
I believe the direction has changed. That's why we haven't heard no updates or progress on the AntMan film in ages. Did see where Wright's next project ISN'T going to be AntMan though. Methinks there have been some changes in priority in regards to Hank. My comic shop guy 'BoB', has informed me that A.) in current continuity Hank has reverted back to Giant Man. B.) He thinks the Wasps comic resurection is just around the corner. & C.) there is a build up currently underway for the return of ULTRON this summer! Could portend to the situations in the second Avengers film?

I've no idea how fast Wright produces movies but with him working on the 3rd Cornetto movie I doubt 2015 is a possibilty for Ant-man

So, what exactly would Pym contribute? Science? They already have two scientists on the roster. Combat ability? Thor and Hulk can do everything Pym can and more, in terms of straight combat.

You would have to get the audience to take seriously a guy whose main distinct contribution is riding around on a flying ant and being tiny. And you'd implicitly be trading Black Widow for Wasp, which means you lose a SHIELD operative, and gain a. . . fashion designer?

This.:word:

Giant-Man the Dropped Ball!!!

I already know they dropped the ball by not putting Ant-Man and WaspIn the Avenger Movie.Robert Downey looks so stupid saying to a Demi-god
WE HAVE A COUPLE OF ASSASINS?????REALLY!!!!What could that possibly mean to Loki?????
Any way my point is with so much of the action taking place in the skies.I believe they dropped the Ball on not taking full advantage of allowingGiant-Man be part of that.It would have been visually stunning not that it already isn't.However why not?
That would have sinced it.To see him walking around through all of it.It was truly a missed oppurtunity.

Can you imagine that Metal Serpent thing wrapped around him and them
crashing into building and such.

Or even a scene like this.

The very fact that there was such a sky war or giant metal Serpent. It could have been his reason for working on a Serum to reverse the growth from small to big it would have made total sense. It could have been the back story and his purpose to be Giant-Man.
You start the movie with him as Ant-Man towards the end he steps out as Giant-Man.
What would he do as Ant-Man simple listen in on Loki's Plan and Wasp she can get in his head literally and cause damage. Not to mention keeping it legit to the true members and Patriachs of the Avengers and keep Hawkeye and Widow if you want.
Anyway it would have been epic please post you thought on what I just said.
Sorry Giant-Man.Even though you really were a founding member as well as this was your type of fight.
Poor Hank Pym never gets his Props!!!

Talk about missing a huge oppurtunity Literally!!!!

Man, tell me about it. When i saw the video of San Diego Con, and the cast walked out on stage and there was no Hank and Jan, i was majorly disappointed...:csad:

I'm hoping they will have a small cameo, or something, but i doubt it.

Neither scientist is on Pym's level.

Pym and Jan would totally own both Hawkeye AND Black Widow, in any type of "stealth" operation.

And lastly, Hank alone could quite frankly mop the floor with Clint and Natasha in any type of fight, so i'd say he brings quite a contribution...certainly more than the two characters being used in his place.

I wouldn't mind seeing Giant Man in a future film.. it would be too expensive this time around, juggling X number of primary characters already.. same with Wasp.. and of course, there's the long-percolating AntMan film by Wright, which at this point may "never" happen, lol.. but at least Marvel controls the property instead of Fox..

Hmmm, you raise a pretty good point as well :word:

Maybe... just maybe. They are waiting to see how this movie does before they decide to move ahead with any Ant-man project. See how the audience takes to the different characters then see how they can work Hank and Jan into the universe.

I just feel by holding off on Ant-man and Wasp in the first movie... they are doing the right thing

True

Right? Hank ran an entire team of Avengers ragged in Avengers #161...Jan clobbered a team of X-Men single handedly in the first Secret Wars...Jan & Scott Lang took out Titannia and Absorbing Man...

Clint & Natasha struggle against a bunch of Hydra goons. Yay. :whatever:

Kidding, of course. Hawkeye and Black Widow are great characters as well.
I just don't think anyone who doubts Hank and jan's potential has really ever read any comics with them in it.

I stand corrected. That sounds about right. He had more screen time than half the fellowship.

It sounds like you hope the direction has changed. I saw Wright has yet another project (making 3 total) to decide between. There's nothing saying that Depp will be next or Ant-Man. I also saw where when a fan questioned the time, he informed them that it takes a long time to make any movie. But if you'd like to hope that Marvels plans in the comics are going to be applied in a second Avengers film, be my guest. Just don't call it logic.

This isn't a HeroClix Match. Having another better scientist does not make for a better movie. We already have two scientists that cover all the bases (can be on whatever level the movie requires) that we care about. No need/room for another.

And Hank and Jan are great for recon, but beyond that, any real espionage, interrogation, retrieval, they are useless, because they're not trained spies. So they bring something he cannot do, and everything he can do is done by someone else. He's redundant in this set up.
