The Dark Knight Gilliam Attacks Warner Brothers Promotion!!

That guy has no idea what he's talking about, they're promoting the movie the same way they were going to before Heath's death, what he is saying is total bs!!

I agree, WB have been very considerate with the marketing and have done their best not to dwell on the tragic situation.

I think the way they updated the viral/official pages with messages and ribbons for Heath was perfect and really the only time they have mentioned publicly about his death.

It is all media hype that makes it worse.

I love Gilliams work but I cant believe everything I read, there is every chance this is taken out of context or he could just have been in a bitter mood when this was said.

Its his opinion and a lot of people will disagree but in this case WB are not in the wrong.

This is so dumb. So what did Gilliam want, to cut Ledger out of all the commercials? Do any of the commercials say, "Ledgers final appearance" or anything remotely close to that? No.

I better not see Ledger in any commercials for his movie "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" when that is released.

:whatever: WB has not in the least bit been capitalising on Ledger's death. Why must people make jack-asses of themselves?

Yea I like gilliam but he needs a colostomy bag for his mouth. I don't think his family would be attending the premiere and talking how proud they are if they weren't completely happy about how WB handled the promotion.

either cause they have no idea theyre making an ass of themselves, or they enjoy it quite a bit!

Gilliam: WB is exploiting his death to promote Heath's second-last movie. By the way, did you know that I'm making his last movie? Spread the word!

Seriously Gilliam, shut the hell up. They have not been the least bit exploitative. What IS exploitative is being a media ****e and using this to attack a faceless conglomerate in the sole interest of making yourself look better. Is The Dark Knight getting extra attention because of Heath's death? Absolutely, but not due to any sort of exploitation by anyone involved with the movie or it's marketing. Seems to me that someone's a bit upset that TDK is getting all the attention while no one's mentioned YOUR movie since shortly after Heath's passing.

He just dosent want his film to loose its steam because TDK is Heath's last BIG film. In the end the guy is just jealous!

wow what a moron lol

Ledger's death is only brought up when a interview ask the cast about him

Not one tv spot or trailer has said Ledgers last full role or any crap like that

& finally Oscar talks is coming from the Critics them selfs sure a few WB guys said I could see him winning but its not like there saying Ledger for Oscar now

he sounds like a bitter old man

Warner Bros have gone on publicising the film exactly the way they would have if Heath Ledger was alive. The talk has been about Ledger's PERFORMANCE as The Joker, not the fact that he's dead.

Meanwhile, Gilliam is saying "WB don't respect Heath, they don't know Heath....like I did! As you will see in the movie I am making, which will be a TRUE tribute to Heath's memory!"

Who sounds like they're capitalising more?

I'm not saying Gilliam is capitalising. Heath Ledger had a great respect for him. In one of his last interviews, he had high praise to give Gilliam. They seem to have been good friends. But I'm just showing how easy it is to twist things around and make people look like they're profiteering from Heath's death when they really aren't.

Good word usage

If anyone is insulting Heath's memory, it's Gilliam. Because it's almost as if he's saying Heath doesn't deserve the oscar and WB are just jumping on the oscar rumors and recommendations to hype the movie. As far as I know, nobody from WB has done this. It is the actual STARS of the film (especially Michael Caine) who want Heath to get an Oscar, and that has nothing to do with promoting the film. It's because they were friends of Heath and want to honor his memory by making sure his work on this film gets the recognition it deserves.

Gilliam is a noob and probably doesn't know how the viral campaign when down.

I would have thought Gilliam would want Heath to get an Oscar and all the admiration for his performance, then he can put it on the poster for his project...if he ever gets it finished

I think Gilliam is great, but he's very wrong about this. From what I can see WB has respected Ledger and his family.

These kind of asinine comments really disappoint me. As a fan of Heath I could not be more proud of the way WB is handling the marketing they've been very respectful.
Plus its the critics who have been raving and talking of oscars, not the studio.
Exactly, thats what I don't get when I hear people say stuff like this. Just the other day I was on Christian Bale's IMDB boards and I was surprised and upset of how some Bale fans talk about Heath Ledger. There's a few posters who take offense at all the Heath oscar talk, one poster in particular even went as far as blaming it on the reason why Bale seemed upset during the Today show interview.

he's still pissed at WB for not letting him direct the Potter flick. :) but seriously...how many films has he STARTED to make, then abandoned them/had UBER problems with them for various reasons? (ie: The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, his problems with Brazil, etc...)

he is totally wrong. Have seen NO evidence of WB doing this. If they wanted to do it, it would be everywhere and we wouldn't be wondering whether the DK will break Box Office records this weekend, It would be a certainty!!

I think he is wrong in this opinion. I don't think the marketing has been exploiting his death at all. They are hardly announcing in the advertisements "His final role!!". Plus its the critics who have been raving and talking of oscars, not the studio.

No, exploiting Heath is making up a desperate, inane plot idea to have other actors play his character just so he can finish the movie and say it's the real final performance. I'm sorry, but it would be one thing if they were near the end of filming, but they were two weeks into filming the movie. As sad as it is, they either should have canned the movie or just replaced Heath in entirety. There's no way they are being sincere about this. The only reason they're doing this is to cash in on putting out Heath's "last film". And it sucks cause I think Gilliam has talent. 12 Monkeys, Fear & Loathing, his art for Monty Python: Genius. But he's acting a huge ****ing baby. As far as I'm concerned, The Dark Knight is Heath's final performance.
