Girl suspended from school for foul odor

Frankly, after having a look at the mother, and the daughter apparently not being able to remember the last time she took a bath....I'm not gonna automatically call BS on this one.

I was literally just about to post the same comment.

Why the heck doesn't her mother bathe her?(Other than terrible parenting and being accustomed to not doing the act on her own body)

I see dead-ringers for the mother in that article come into K-Mart on a daily basis. They smell like BO and sometimes urine, and can barely speak English intelligibly.

They just....are extremely uneducated and stuff like this doesn't occur to them, for whatever reason.

I should have made it clearer that when I said "Way to go Tennessee" I meant its citizens.

I found the comments pretty heartless. Show some compassion.
Why the school didn't called the social services ( or whatever is the equivalent in the US ) to investigate instead of suspending the child from school repetitively ?
Also, I would not be surprised if the child ( 8 y/o ) said she didn't remember because of the stress of being questioned.

Being poor is not an excuse for not taking care of your hygiene.

But yes, the school should have called social services to investigate. The child can't just never go to school. Surely she's behind on classes after being suspended so much, probably not going to move to the next grade level with her classmates on time, which can be a huge blow to a child's self-esteem and give them an inferiority complex (if she doesn't already have one), and make them more apathetic and not want to even bother trying anymore.

If she's really that unwashed, then that's grounds for child neglect.

I hope they handled this in a sensitive way when it comes to the child but yeah, can't blame them.

The mom looks like she's missing her teeth. I love her invaluable nuggets of wisdom: "You go to school to learn, not be sent home." Wow, she's like the Plato of the 21st century!

I went to school for the free lunch. :o

sure you don't mean BO?...

So...when the mom says the daughter takes a bath everyday...does she use soap?...change the bath water?

she bathes every day properly but wears the same clothes for a week at a time probably... :o

This is entirely possible.

Although I side-eye the girl not remembering when she bathed and the mom's shifty eyes while claiming her daughter bathes every day.

I feel for the child, I mean this is clearly something on the parent. She may very well bathe everyday...with soap, but if she's putting on the same dirty clothes...it's pointless. I have to wonder if there is an over abundance of animals in the home. If a teacher is complaining about it, it really has to be bad.

When I saw the title of this thread, before looking at the article, for some reason I thought they were talking about a teenage girl
