Glee Episode V: The Sylvester Strikes Back - - - - Part 13

That was a surreal episode of TV, I don't think there's ever been anything like it before where they are paying tribute to both a character's death and the actual actors death at the same time, it was hard to know where the line was and I can't begin to imagine how hard it was to film.

Dallas already did it last year with Larry Hagman.

Yep, it's not really anything new. They did it with John Ritter on 8 Simple Rules, John Spencer on The West Wing, Phil Hartman on that show he was on...

I thought that was it, but I wasn't sure.

That must've been a really weird one to get through for those close to him. Hagman and Spencer were ill, Cory was fighting addiction, Ritter had a sudden medical issue... but Hartman was murdered by his wife who was on a drug binge.

There's some other examples here:

On the whole, I thought the ep was about as well done as it could be under all the circumstances. The majority of the reactions and emotions were all realistic, but I'm sure most of the actors didn't have to try real hard, and some of their real feelings likely bled through to their performances.

The only things that didn't work for me/annoyed me were Puck stealing the tree and Schue stealing the jacket. I fully expected Puck's character of all people to react with anger first, and his blowup in the locker room fit in, but don't do something so stupid as destroy a monument, no matter how small, that other people put up to remember him by. And I thought Schue taking the jacket, and then not speaking up when the others were blaming Puck and let him take the fall, was a real dick move. Yes, I fully know that grief can make people do stupid things, but it just makes him look like an irresponsible jerk who has no business guiding kids when he lets one of them take the fall for something he did, and gave me a reminder of why I left. I think it would have worked better if he asked to borrow it, maybe even got in on what Puck suggested about framing it, but then took it home and broke down like we saw. Just flat out stealing it ruined that moment for me.

Other than those things and the glaring omission of Quinn, it was well done. I will fully admit to tearing up on the scene with Kurt and the parents in his room, and kinda busied myself with other things 'cause I knew I might not be able to handle it.

It's a turn around from just a few minutes ago on NBC where he's in another sitcom then you switch to Glee

He's crossing the networks!

He'll cross back. That other show sucks and nobody's watching it.

I stand corrected. :funny: I guess it was the way Corey died and how young he was that seemed to make it so much more raw than Hagman and Dallas for instance.

well that was sad episode. however, i couldn't help but laugh at how hysterical santana got during her song.

I guess those rumors of Ryan Murphy not caring for Dianna Agron from a while back must have been true. How could Quinn not be in this episode?!

my local paper had an article that said a cast member asked for her not to be in the episode because no one really gets along with her.

I doubt that. She was at one of the tapings for Dancing With The Stars a few weeks back to support Amber and I believe at one point early in the show's run, she and Lea were roommates.

It's much easier to believe that Ryan purposefully phased her out, because you can just tell he has that kind of personality.

Well....I'm officially a mess.

The Kurt-Burt-Carole scene, especially Carole's monologue, and the ending with Will wrecked me.

Surprisingly, I wasn't as affected by Rachel as I expected.

Ditto to the enth.

Great episode. Very surreal. Definitely had me crying, especially the scene with Kurt, his dad, and Finn's mom.

I know it would seem a bit wrong and weird but Naya should submit this episode for an emmy nomination/award.

Rosemont might have an easier time getting a nom than Naya. The Guest Actress category seems like it'd probably be easier to crack into than Supporting.

Will is singing Blurred Lines with the kids?! Creepy...:ninja:

Finn's jacket is understandable. Grief makes you do unexpected things, and Finn was like a son to him, he wanted something to hold on to.

"Blurred Lines", on the other hand, is just another example of Will's pathological inability to identify inappropriate songs ("Bust a Move", "Toxic", etc...). I actually think these are pretty funny.

Asking to borrow it would be one thing. Stealing it from one former student and standing by while another gets blamed for it, and yet again not mentioning it when the first student is putting posters about it up, is another.

I think she actually stated a while back she wasn't invited back. Oh vey!

That jascket was getting passed around like a joint between these people, so I can let it slide. :o
