So I guess The Martian is a comedy now?

Anyway, it's very nice to see Elba, Rylance, and Shannon getting Noms again, plus Stallone this time. But where's the love for Hardy and del Toro?

So glad Vikander got love for Ex Machina.

No Leftovers? Meh

Looks like a pretty meh year, not sure who came up with the idea that the Martian is a comedy

Awards fraud is not new guys. Everyone complains about this everytime the major awards are announced but nothing get's done.

I actually think that the GG are doing much better with the categories especially when they declined the supporting submissions for Mara and Vikander and instead placed them on lead. And hey it worked for Vikander's favor! She got a nod for each category. :funny:

I'm disappointed and frankly shocked there's nothing at all for Sicario. If there was any Awards perfect for that movie to get some love it was the GG's. At least Benicio and Emily. Director/Screenplay would've been tough as well as Best Movie.

Emily should've at least been nominated. It's easier for her category because of the 10 slots with the drama and comedy split. Harder for Del Toro to breakthrough for Supporting when you only have 5 slots.

At least the Globes didn't take any of the "Supporting Actress" crap from Danish Girl and Carol.

^^
Agreed.

You have a point about Emily's snub and I've not seen Dano or Shannon in the movies they got nominated for so can't say they were better than Del Toro. But Del Toro did bring his "A game" to Sicario though.

The Martian is obviously not a comedy.

The Martian isn't a full-on drama either. It ended on "I Will Survive", for God's sake. Let's split the difference and call it a dramedy. At least it's pretty much guaranteed to win in that category.

Mad Max Fury Road is a contender for Best Motion Picture?

This pleases guitar guy very much

Pros:
- Fury Road for Best Drama
- George Miller and Ridley Scott for Best Director
- Eddie, Leo, and Fass are up for Best Actor like I predicted
- The Martian for Best Comedy or Musical
- Sorkin and Quentin for Best Screenplay

Cons:
- No Sicario

The Martian for best comedy or musical when it's neither is lulz.

Ah, the Golden Globes. The Happy Meal Toys of the award season.

Happy about the Ex Machina shout, was sure that would be overlooked completely. Dismayed about the lack of Sicario, though. Those were my top two of the year, and I'd kind of assumed the former would be the overlooked one while Sicario had a shot at some real attention.

And YEAAAASSS to all the Mad Max love this awards season.

Cate, Rooney, Saoirse, Brie and Alicia. That is like my favorite list for any award ever. :atp:

And Mad Max.

Spotlight was an excellent film, kinda surprised no one here on SHH has mentioned it yet. Fantastic ensemble cast and brilliant writing & directing—easily one of my favorites this year, and I won't be surprised if it wins the categories it's nominated in, it was that good. Highly recommended!

And I have to admit it's sort of annoying to see noms for movies that aren't even officially released yet (The Revenant, The Big Short, Concussion, The Hateful Eight, etc), how come the HFPA gets to see those before we do? :cmad:

I feel like Mad Max is on track to do what Gravity did. Without acting or screenplay nods, I don't think it really has a genuine shot at Best Picture. Those are real killers. However, it could end up sweeping many of the tech awards, along with Best Editing and Best Director.

While I'm happy that Mad Max got some love, some of those nominations are so RANDOM.

And Fargo didn't get any love but Empire did?

Wish Better Call Saul got a Best Series nomination and Jeffrey Donovan a Best Supporting Actor for Fargo.

Empire is a very fun show and it's great to see a show with a mostly-black cast on the air, but that Best TV Drama nomination is clearly a ratings grab, rather than something that's really warranted.

Yeah I don't get it. At the same time, it's been documented that the Globes try to get the biggest stars for the show itself. They would rather get Terrance Howard than let's say Jeffery Donovan to show up.

Also since it's the foreign press, it's possible that a show like Fargo isn't as universally liked outside of the States.

Yes to Mad Max: Fury Road getting two nominations and Sly for Creed. But I think Charlize Theron and Junkie XL deserved a best actress and a best original score nomination, both sent me on an emotional roller coaster ride.

I'm only going to watch GG for Ricky Gervais roasting most of these over-privileged celebs.
