That's sad. But under all that latex make up, they can just recast him and nobody'll even notice.

As for the plot of the movie, I'd do something like have the kids of the original characters go on an adventure. Then their parents, the original cast, go after them in a rescue attempt. Then there's the team up between the Original Goonies and the New Generation against whoever it is chasing them (maybe Sloth's brothers escape from prison and come after The Goonie & their kids).
