Thought maybe to start a thread and if people are going to the same one we can meet before and say hi.

I am going to the Halifax screening at Bayers :yay:

Hi!

I'm going to the Mission Valley IMAX in San Diego, CA.

Going tomorrow with my uncle how early would you recommend I go? I feel like going 2 hours early is good so that we can get good seats.

It all depends on the area where you're seeing it and the fact that it's just a 17 minute preview. I learned the hard way that you have to show up early when I didn't get to see an advance screening of Batman Begins. 2 hours is a very safe bet that you'll get good seats/admitted.

For me, I'm going 3 hours early since it's Hollywood. I've learned that you really need to be there early for advance screenings whether their the whole movie or small parts.

already got my tickets a few days ago. still 5 hours to go. my theater will show a surprise Marvel flick after the preview, hope it's CA:TWS.

Going to a Screening here in Westminster probably will need to get their 2 hours early.

I hope you guys will post your thoughts before I go to bed tonight UK time.

I'm seeing it at 7 in Boston. I will make a real effort to post my thoughts at some point tonight. I've had a very long day and.had zero sleep last night so no promises. But I'll definitely chime in by tomorrow.

Hey guys, who's excited for the preview tonight? Any guesses on what they will show? I find it odd that they would show 17 minutes of footage given how the people who are going are probably the biggest fans already and already convinced to see this thing. I guess it boils down to word of mouth.. still pretty exciting, and at the least we get some free posters right? It would be awesome if they showed a free movie after but who knows.

Seeing it tonight at 7 in Birmingham. I'm super excited.
Matter of fact I didn't even think to look if it was available in my city until I saw this thread so thanks for reminding me, Andy24.

Well, here it is:
Just came back from the screening. First impression? Wow, Guardians of the Galaxy looks to be truly amazing. It is the prison-escape scene. It starts with a holographic screen with Ronan, Gamora and the Mad Titan Thanos on it. You can´t clearly see his face because it was a bit dark. Then the escape begins and yes, Rocket steals the show. He begins to tell the others what he would need for his next prison break. Quill´s task is it to steal a prosthetic leg. Later you see that Rocket was just kidding with the leg and wanted to see Quill get it. The Guardians fight their way through the other prisoners and guards and finally escape. Every Guardian shines in his/her own way. The footage ended with an extended trailer with a brief look at Thanos´floating throne/chair, which looked really great (this scene will surley be awesome :woot:). Some new Ronan pieces and a lot that we´ve already seen. Ben Davis' cinematography is beautiful and the score by Tyler Bates fits also very well. August can´t come soon enough :yay:

In line right now got a little mini poster and the rep said they are giving away some other stuff. Theres a lot of people here just for a 17 min showing. Course i think some of them thought it was a screening for the whole movie.

I'm in line right now and there's easily 500 people at this theatre. No way in hell I'm gettin a seat but hopefully there will be standing room

Just got out. Thoughts:

1. Converted or no, some of the best most effective most subtle 3D I've ever seen.

2. The cgi creature effects are amazing and convincing.

3. Pratt is quite endearing as Starlord, though his full badassery is stil tbd.

4. Groot is fantastic, both as a visual spectacle and as a character. They pulled him off.

5. Gamora is less hardassed than I expected. Zoe looks great but like SL her toughness is tbd.

6. Bautistas Drax, who had the least screen time, is a bit of a question mark for me. Jury is out until I see more of him. Leave it at that.

7. Biggest revelation: The movie belongs to Rocket Raccoon. Without once being a cutesy comic relief, he quite simply stole the show. A total badass and , at least based on the prison escape scene, the most resourceful and knowledgeable member of the team. If the movie is a megahit Rocket will be the #1 reason. He's perfect.

I'll have more later. If you want more details feel free to msg me.

Will post a spoiler filled description of what I saw if people want me to - I'm typing this on my phone right now so didn't wanna do all that at the moment unless people would like me to once I get home to my laptop.

I got to my screening pretty early, not a lot of people. Folks bailed out when they were informed that it was a 17 minute screening, a few swearing. Mini posters were handed out as they checked IDs to our passes.

The Purge sequel screening was also playing at the theater, some were trying to make their way over to that.

Not a lot of people in my screening, I met a lovely couple in the line. She's a big fan of GOTG. This sold me on seeing it in Imax 3D. I loved Rocket, I want to be Gamora for Halloween, I think Drax will be comic relief as will Groot. I'm not 100 on Star Lord yet.
