I got issue one today, has anyone else bought this? I'm pretty excited for it, I will let you know how it is

I dug it. Steve Niles is really interested in exploring the psychology of Batman. And focusing on Batman as a detective first and foremost. I'm a huge fan of how Kelley Jones illustrates Batman very mysteriously, lots of black, lots of shadows. I like Niles work on the 30 Days of Nights. And the new story by Steve Niles is suitably dark and mysterious too. Each issue is a singular, encapsulated story—with each issue featuring a different Batman villain—the first is Scarecrow, but there is a structure of an over-arc to the entirety of the book with one overriding story over the entire 12 issues. This is gonna be good.

Kelley Jones always draws a wicked Scarecrow.

A Batman comic from Steve Niles...I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for the tpb of this when it's complete.

don't read it right before the new issue of bats tho- it suffers by comparison- i hate it cuz i like both creators and the scarecrow's my favorite villain, but...Dang. That opening was LAME (upon reflection, I barely remember anything else about it, just 'Wow, that was a lame opening- I'm Batman- seriously? jeez, the Snickers commercial with the football player & the coach made better use of that line and then my free associating mind goes Right back to RIP issue 2 and the stuff raised in There, which I practically Galloped through on 1st read).
You know the feeling you get where you're Trying to like something more than you're actually Enjoying it and you can feel the weight of the effort? That's why I said don't read right before RIP issue 2; you'll Keenly notice that difference if you do.
I Really hope this gets better next ish- bgoth the writing And the art- kjo Really needs to buy an anatomy book sometime and the length of the cape swirling out for blocks and miles and across the friggin countryside is getting Tired- dude, we get that you draw some mean cloth-folds; either get over that particular fetish or take it over to the fashion industry, where no one has normal human proportions and Acres of cloth do nothing but swish around all over the place while somebody strikes a dramatic pose and looks all serious- Damn! (sorry, just had to vent that or bust)

Yeah, some of Steve Niles dialogue seemed a little off to me. Batman saying "I'm Batman" whilst taking down the Scarecrow for the umpteenth time just doesn't seem to make much sense.

:funny: I love the huge swirling folding cape Kelley Jones gives Batman. That's his signature. I respect that he sticks to his own style. It's refreshing to see an artist illustrate Batman again who doesn't just do Jim Lee-esque Batman.

I like it, looks awesome

And as for him saying "I'm Batman", he explains that to Gordon that its important for every criminal he captures to know that Batman did it
