One of my favorite things about TDK was the fact much more focuse was given to Gordon and the MCU. TDK marks the first time there was any focuse on the GCPD, and I really enjoyed the additions of Stephens and Ramirez. It reminded me of Brubaker and Rucka's "Gotham Central", which was one of the best Batman books on the stands before it was cancelled. (Several scenes in TDK, such as Stephens' scene with The Joker, and The Joker holding him hostage in front of the unite, seem to be lifted straight out of Gotham Central.)

I'm hoping to see more of them in TDKR, and I'd really like to see Montoya and Bullock as the unite's new additions. I could see Montoya replacing Gordon as the head of the unite, with Bullock as her partner.

Thoughts?

I really enjoyed the MCU aspect of TDK as well. I hope at least Stephens comes back for TDKR. I wouldn't mind additional faces, they don't have to be Bullock or Montoya though.

It is a double edged sword. If we get new faces that aren't Montoya or Bullock then we'll have people complaining at Nolan for not using the characters when he could have, if he does name a new character Montoya or Bullock, you'll have people mad that they weren't larger roles.

The GCPD aspects was one of my favourite in The Dark Knight, too.

It was great to see the Gotham Police so involved in the story.

One of my favourite shots in the film is after Gordon is "killed", a handful of detectives are on the MCU rooftop with the Batsignal on, with Stephens up front. That shot looks like an homage to the cover of Gotham Central #1, with Gordon and his detectives up on the roof with the Batsignal lit behind them. It was so great to see.

For his involvement and just presence as one of Gordon's trusted men, Stephens really won me over. I was hoping the Joker wasn't going to kill him. I hope to see him again in the next film.

Gotham Central was a brilliant book!

We won't get Montoya. We already had the latina cop.

We may or may not get Bullock. Stephens already felt like a great Bullock to me.

Personally, I'd like to see Crispus Allen as the new MCU head.

Yeah, Ive always thought that Ramirez is the movie version of Montoya

Why didn't they just name Stephens and Montoya Bullock and Ramirez? Not a big deal, but it would have been a nice little wink fans like us. We would have nitpicked it to death and said they weren't faithful portrayals though...

I think Flask was more like Bullock. As far as not naming Ramirez Montoya, perhaps they didnt want to stain the character. After all, Ramirez sold Dent and Rachel

This

Even when we found out Ramirez was corrupt, I still liked her, because she wasn't corrupt in the traditional sense like Flass was. She was just desperate for money to help her sick mum.

I remember Nolan or Goyer saying something along the lines of "there is a reason why we're not usin Montoya for Ramirez" -> and after seeing the movie, not to stain the characters reputation is imo a fair argument indeed.

if they named Stephens Bullock, then fans would complain that Bullock was a wasted character.

If they named Ramirez Montoya, then fans would complain how Montoya sold out.

That totally makes being an accessory to kidnapping ok.

:whatever:

I never said that. I said I still liked her because I understood her desperation to help her mother. I never said that condoned what she did.

Learn to read.

I hope they don't forget about Ramirez in TDKR. She's a loose end that needs to be tied up.

Stpehens was a great chracter, but I still want to see the combination of either Bullock and Montoya or Montoya and Allen. Gordon needs cops he can trust after the fiasco in TDK.

I doubt either of them are coming back. Ramirez is going to prison and Gordon should do a complete clean up inside the MCU. Here is where Bullock may come in. But I agree, a bit of crime drama was a nice touch.

How do we know Ramirez is going to prison?

Because she committed a crime, didn't she accept bribes too? At the most she'd be able to run a plea deal, either way she certainly won't be working for GCPD anymore.

Yeah, but what proof do they have of that? They knew Flass was bent but he never went to jail either.

Yeah but that's when that a-hole Commish Loeb was running things. While he was not as corrupt as his comic counterpart, he didn't really give a damn either. I wouldn't doubt if he were on the mafia payroll anyway. With Gordon around, I think it's safe to say he will at least do his best to weed out the bad cops. It's time for spring cleaning.

And what happened to Flass anyway? I'm not sure but if he were in TDK, I imagine Gordon would have fired him anyway.

And? Is there some sort of rule saying there can't be more than one latina cop?

Nice strawman.

We won't be seeing Montoya because the general audience will confuse her with Ramirez.

If we were going to get Montoya, we already would have.

Just like Leslie Thompkins, and MAYBE Bullock. Because Stephens was pretty much already Bullock.

They Definitely need to introduce some new faces in the MCU. In TDK, Gordon found out that two members of his unite were on Maroni's payroll, and Gordon's blind trust in his people cost the lives of both Rachel Dawes and Harvey Dent. After that fiasco, he needs people he can trust.

Enter Montoya and Bullock.

Or, you know, Crispus Allen. Who we haven't seen in a live action movie yet.

And not even represented, like Ramirez was to represent Montoya.

In retrospect, I rather liked the character of Stephens. It was really hard to root for him on opwening night because I was having such a Joker crush, but Stephens was a pretty solid character. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing him again, however unlikely that may be.

Why unlikely? He was an honest cop with some character development who survived TDK.

I don't think it'll be unlikely that we'll see Stephen's again.

He might have a little more hate than usual for Batman, but I'm sure we'll see him again.

Hopefully.
