It's widely excepted in the comics that Gotham is in New Jersey. Also, Metropolis is in Delaware.

Frankly, I hated the idea of Gotham being in New York or New Joisy. It's getting quite crowded up thurr.

I prefer it to be its own tiny state (think Singapore) somewhere in the east coast.

Yeah, I think Gotham was very much close to Chicago in this universe.

Gotham in this series is a hybrid of both New York and Chicago. The architecture, the L train, that's Chicago. You can tell from all the aerial shots in Begins though the geography is based NYC.

Eh, I don't see it as any more truthful than the movies. Gotham will always be in New Jersey as far as I'm concerned.

Originally, The Batman operated in New York City. I guess they later realized it was becoming a tad over-crowded as far as the super-hero crowd goes and Gotham City was created. I'm not sure when it happened though or who's responsible for it.
