What superhero teams are sponsored by their governments. China has the Great Ten. Russia has the Rocket Reds and Red Star. The United States has sponsored variations of the Suicide Squad and the Freedom Fighters.

Are there any other superhero teams like that, sponsored by nations like the United States, France, and others?

I know it's not a single government organization, but wouldn't Checkmate count?

Let's see:

The Invaders

The Avengers (most of the time either U.S. or U.N. sponsored, although went freelance under Bendis' pen)

The Fantastic Four (kind of, at least, as Reed has several government contracts, and the team does most of their fighting, instead of their usual exploring/reaserching, on behalf of the government)

The Ultimates

The Justice League have, in the past, been partially or wholely government sponsored, usually by the U.N., and most notebly during the Giffen/DeMattes/Maguire run. Although, more often, they're simply "concerned citizens" that the authorities allow to operate because they break no major laws.

The X-Men, I believe, have become a government sanctioned anti-terrorism unit, although I'm not entirely sure on that.

The new Authority during the Transfer of Power ark was brought together by the government, although Midnighter killed them because they were *******s and he just enjoys killing things.

*wait until the 50 State Initiative passes*
