Thinking about it, I don't think there are any whole graphic novels I'd like to see made into a live-action film. But seeing how Christopher Nolan has been adapting certain elements from various graphic novels and comics of the past, I would like to see him take what he can from
Dark Victory, the sequel to
The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Obviously,
The Long Halloween has been a considerable influence on Nolan as he's done
Batman Begins and
The Dark Knight, so I think adapting the official sequel isn't at all impossible nor totally unexpected. Below are some aspects, characters or themes from
Dark Victory that I personally would find interesting to see on film --
Harvey Dent/Two-Face replaced as District Attorney by Janice Porter, the woman with the reputation of being the bull in a China shop. I firmly believe that Harvey Dent
and Two-Face are very much dead, so I wouldn't expect a plotline similar to the morbid romance he and Porter shared in the graphic novel. But that doesn't mean she couldn't still be corrupt and/or manipulated somehow. If the Hangman Killings are included or some variation of them that includes the systematic murder of members of the GCPD, then you could have the tension that existed in the graphic novel between Porter and struggling Commissioner Gordon.
With Gordon's family taken hostage in
The Dark Knight, it's not impossible to imagine his wife taking the kids elsewhere as is evident at the start of
Dark Victory.
Perhaps a twist on the Hangman Killings where it's the Riddler instead of Sofia Falcone-Gigante. Perhaps an added mixture of elements similar to the Zodiac killer. If he's meant to be a primary villain, at least.
A continuation of the
Freaks taking over the criminal element of Gotham City and the Mobs slowly but surely losing their grip.
While I'd love to see Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the third film, I know that her role will be a lot different than it is in
Dark Victory, since she won't yet be introduced and established like she is in the graphic novel.
Personally, I think it could be quite interesting if any or some of the elements from
Dark Victory are used. There's enough going on but I don't think it would be
too much. As you can tell, I left out the introduction to Dick Grayson/Robin. I don't necessarily dislike the character so much as think that he just wouldn't work. Not yet, anyway.
I know plenty will disagree, but this is only
my opinion.
