The Amazing Spider-Man Great Guide / Article from IGN for Reboot

The criticisms focus mostly on SM3 and I disagree with a few things, other than the emo dancing I don´t think the series went too much into camp territory, not more than to keep the feel of a fun popcorn movie, and I think a lot of the humor in the series really works, even if Spidey wasn´t wisecracking that much, and the whole angle of MJ as his one true love, whether people like it or not, was being pushed into the Spidey mythos for a long time, even in comics. Betty and Gwen were in the movies, even though Betty was more of a little flirtation and Gwen only came along in the third.

One of the reasons Brand New Day managed to improve Amazing Spider-Man so drastically is

Lost me.

ha ha! :hehe:

I thought they made a lot of excellent points but a lot of the mistakes;
a) were in the third movie
b) due to pacing
c) due to focusing on peter/mj
d) due the movie not taking itself too seriously
e) due to them only planning for a trilogy rather than a never ending saga

Wait did he really just complain about Doc Ock's hospital massacre...that was one of the best scenes in SM2 :huh:

Plus I love the Raindrops keep Falling montage, the song is so corny and bubble-gummy on purpose, it´s to make the montage feel surreal, Peter is living the illusion that his Spidey troubles are over, it´s too good to be real.

it's funny how all the sudden it's become unpopular to be a Raimi fan... :facepalm:

good article. I would say base the new trilogy as an amalgamation of the new cartoon and the ultimate spider-man comic.

Ending in the Death of Gwen Stacey. The arc should build up Norman to be the Green Goblin

I know, it´s like cuz of the problems of SM3 suddenly all his movies became crap and got it wrong. I can count in the fingers of one hand how many directors got a superhero even closely as right as he did.

Not bad.. an OK article.
I agree with half of what they said and not the other half.

For example- I want to see the origin done right, and I DO want to see Spidey age as the new series progresses. That is part of what defined the MU- that time passes, that PP was once a teen but that he grew into an adult in the comics and became a more rounded and experienced superhero.

If he's gonna stay 16 forever in the new series that's just like a kiddies cartoon where nothing ever changes, and the onscreen character will lose a great deal of relevance and a degree of his mass market appeal.

Ultimate Spidey? No thanx!!! I want the Amazing Spider-Man!

Nobody will want to see another forty minutes/one hour origin story, definitely not that soon. Plus the origin in the first movie gets the basic elements right, Peter uses his powers selfishly to win a wrestling match, gets screwed, let the burglar go, Uncle Ben is killed. He learns the great power, great responsibility lesson. The SM3 retcon doesn´t really change it all that much, the burglar bumped on Marko and made him shoot. Peter is still indirectly responsible, which is the main point.

I think he was referring to Doc Ock's "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" when he woke up.

It´s a comic booky villain moment, but you see that in every superhero movie, even the Nolan Batman movies have a couple of those.

Well, I'd like to see an origin without Tobey Maguire, with an actor better suited to the role. It is after all one of the greatest ever SM stories ever, if not THE greatest.

Also it would not have to be 40mins-1hr long. The film could start with PP already SM, a week or so into his superhero career and the origin being a 10 minute flashback sequence to ground the new interpretation of Spidey.

Besides'- if they don't redo the origin in some way, the film will be indistinguishable to 99.9% of audience members as a reboot.
So I think it's a given the origin story will be done/addressed in some significant way so as to separate the two film series.

I'd like the origin done like the watchmen opening credits

* gets bitten

* climbs wall/bends steel

* creates web shooters

* burgay walks past him - kills uncle ben - spidey takes him down - burglar's face revealed

* wrestling match with crusher hogan

* fight with shocker/rhino/ i.e. throw away villians

Do Origin In credits.

Keep Peter In High school for the entire film

have a villian who hasn't been In the films yet.james Cameron wanted to
use Electro.Maybe him as main villian with another as his lackey.

Gwen Stacy needs to be there as Peter's first love.Maybe play It up Is both
of them like each other but don't realize the other does untill the third act.

Have mary jane as girl Aunt may wants to set him up with.

You can have Peter on date with mary jane and this causes Jealousy from
Gwen.You could have Gwen go on date with eather Harry Osborn or Flash
Thompson.

Have Norman Osborn as supporting character.Not the villian.Setup the reboot
verson of the Green goblin for film 2.

Include Eddie brock as Daily Burgle Reporter.This can set up a rebooted
Venom for the final part of trilogy which can do justice to Venom.

have gwen's father George Stacy and anna Watson as supporting characters.

This.

The Incredible Hulk did it perfectly imo.

I'd rather they went the ultimate spiderman/SSM way with eddie i.e they are friends and they friendship deteriorates. so basically eddie is a senior not a reporter

Tobey suited the role perfectly. Peter is a nerdy, insecure, awkward but also noble kid, and he played that perfectly.

At this point, even ten minutes is too much for an origin story. Put a sum up on the credits or the openins sequence like in TIH and that´s good enough IMO.

I just personally wish we could see Peter grow older and not younger. There seems to be this popular belief that an older Spiderman doesnt work which i think is baloney. I would be all for a reboot that has Peter a little older and wiser and in a new chapter of his life. This "he has to be young" thing is so regressive. In my opinion at least.
