Green Arrow,.... Man-****.

I've only just started reading GA and there's a few things that I'm unclear on.

1) How secret are their secret identities? And does Connor have a hero name since his dad came back? Cos on the street they're always referring to one another (in combat, on rooftops, in front of civilians) as "dad", "conner" and "mia" rather than GA, Speedy, and whatever Connor shouldve come up with by now.

2) Does Oliver actually run his company (assuming he still has one - the mention that he's a billionaire every now and then doesnt tell me his money comes from a company more than it does just stock investments these days)? Cos I know Bats spend pretty much every page of every issue as Batman, but we know he runs Wayne Industries at some point; but Oliver seems to just always be GA, with half a page every other issue of him as the Mayor. When's he's not in costume, he's just at the house discussing GA things with Connor or Mia.

3) Why if he's learned all these martial arts and sword skills since crisis do we not see him with a sword at all?

4) If Connor is listed as one of the top 5 martial artists in the DC universe, then why did he get so easily beaten by Drakon? He aint on the list.

5) Is it just me or does the billionaire's house seem small? The gym is in the basement, and there's nothing spectacular about it in any rendition. I know he's a fighter for the little people so he doens tlike to be all rich boy anymore, but I'd a thought there's be at least a more impressive mainframe or infirmary or simulator for combat training.

 

1: They all have secret identityes, but alot of people know about it but not everyone. And Connor still goes by Green Arrow so theres two Green Arrows (and 5 human Green Lanters, 2 Flashes, 2 Wildcats ect ect)

2: Ollie's company went bust in the 60s or 70s, the money he has now he got from the dude that was trying to take over his body in Quiver.
(He wanted to live forever but needed accses to the JLA sensors, so he was trying to move into Ollies body, so he signed over everything to Ollie, but Ollie got away and the old guy was eaten )

3: he is too lazy to remember to pack his sword .. ... ok blame winnick

4: Connor has never been easly beaten by Drakon.. he was shoot.. Martial arts dossent help if the oter guy has a gun is knows how to use it propperly

5: all i have to say is... i hope he build a new house over the arrowcave now that 2 more people are moving inn..
Im not saying that i want his to become a batman clone again.. but everyone in the house and the two new people needs alot of room for their Work.. a cave is good for that kind of thing

 

Before Ollie's house got torched a while back, I assumed it was so small (as opposed to Bruce's) because Ollie's not the type of rich guy who likes to live too lavishly. Sure, he'll rent a limo, wear nice suits, and eat at expensive restaurants... but he's a billionaire who lives in a rather normal 2-story house with no butler. I think one issue even showed him fixing his own broken oven.

 

Green Arrow is my second favorite DC character. I believe that even though he has his flaws he is a hero without question.No one has the perfect morals Superman has.I think a hero's flaws is what makes them so intresting at times.

 

Well, Superman did kill like four people you know.

 

i just had a lokk at all post OYL issues of GA... and there has only been 2 frames from his house ,and it might not even be ollies house! both frames where from Mia's room (#72, mia in bead and#72, Mia Connor and ollie innfron of her computer)
Mia might have a place of her own and stuff.. who knows..

just in the issue that intoduced Connor they state 29 (and that was just in 3 citys he never normaly hangs out inn)

 

No, I was referring to how Superman doesn't necessarily have perfect morals, you know, because he like, killed four people. Then I was waiting on somebody to come in and bring up the circumstances and you know, start a conversation, because talking about GA's house is just f**king boring.

 

Mia won't have her own place - its just that Hester never shows much detail in his interior backgrounds. Ollie did fix the oven I think - back in Drakon's first appearances.

Its not really his house I wanted to talk about. There's just some things about the character that make him seem a bit "cobbling together whatever he can find to make a successful hero career". That said, I have never read DC comics (just kinda kept up to speed on the news of events etc), but GA seemed just so accessible that I picked up some Trades, and now I'm getting the last few issues before it ends.

 

I know its not Man **** stuff - but this seems the only thread to get any info on Ollie.

What's the deal with his age? I know the DC universe is confusing as heck what with some characters being leftovers from other earths, and some being just older aged originals who have young successors - but what's the thing with Ollie?

I read about while he was dead he agreed to let the Spectre bring his body back to life with Ollie DNA, but make it soulless or something, then he finally went into the new body cos its lack of soul was making it a portal for demons, but by then some insanely rich guy had decided he was going to occupy it so when he died before the fact and Ollie popped back in he had all the guy's money.
So can I assume that when Ollie died he was about 40-45 cos he was old enough to have fathered Connor back in his earliest GA days, and Connor is now close to 20 or something. And the body Hal made was of Ollie in his prime of 30ish (though how he was dating black canary before he died when she still appears to be mid 20's now is a bit confusing; but her multiply-retconned story gives me a headache anyway)?

 

First off: connor was born when ollie was in collage. Connor is in his mid-early 20's
Secound: Ollie was about 45 when he died, but when he returnd from the dead he was younger then when he died (wonderwoman said he looked alot younger then thelast time she saw him)
Black Canary is in her early 30s now, ollie should be in his early 40s but legaly in his early 50s

 

Black Canary looks like 20 because she went into a Lazarus pit. Ollie's body is from the Hard Travelling Heroes days. So he'd be late 30s I wager.

 

Ah, the wonderful world of superhero age relations.

 

Wiki says this about Connor (which is where my confusion about his age and conception stems as Ollie was beyond college when he became green arrow right?): Connor Hawke met Oliver Queen after Ollie came to stay at the ashram where Connor had been studying for some years. Ollie had previously retreated to the ashram decades before, looking for peace after accidentally killing a criminal (in The Flash [2nd series] #217).

 

decades in real life (he met connor there in the 90s and he was there in the 70s)
the time between his stay there in Comic time was like 4-5 years
Remember that Roy harper was allready 18 when Ollie first stayed at the ashram and in comics now he is in his mid 20s

and later while Connor was Green Arrow im almost positive that his mother said they met in collage

 

I don't think you necessarily deage when placed in the Lazarus Pit... so I think Black Canary is at her right age...

 

I think the pit did decrease Dinah's age. Goodness knows artists love to draw her at roughly the same age as Huntress & Oracle, even though Black Canary was a vet. superhero back in Babs' Batgirl days.

GA may be in more trouble than he realizes. Putting his name on the face of the American flag (on his parka) is a criminal offense. Someone's gonna throw him in Gitmo!
