Green Arrow's Evolving Technology on the show
One of the things I'd like to see on the show is the continued evolution of Oliver's
Green Arrow Vigilante career. Advances in that life to help him. He would no longer be
going after names in the book right? So maybe Oliver is pressured to go more non
lethal and in that he advances all parts of his life.

Higher tech Arrow Cave
They put this in a magazine advertising the Comic Con, It mentions that Felicity
renovates. So it becomes slightly higher tech and impressive. This got me thinking
that maybe she could be behind all the advances in tech.

Non-Lethal Arrows
Felicity, as well as Diggle, but mostly Felicity was always pushing for non lethal
attacks. Maybe now since she is advancing the Arrow Cave she will also create non
lethal arrows for Oliver. Things that could help him subdue his prey without actually
hurting them. I don't mean boxing glove arrows, but I am sure that will be a joke in the
show, but things like Taser Arrows, Flash Grenade Arrows, Eletco Magnetic Pulse
Arrows, Mase Arrows, and things like that. It would also make for fun visuals if we got
to see Oliver parkour-ing around a fight with several bad guys using different arrows.
Shooting one guy with a burst of a flash grenade and then another guy with an electric
taser arrow.

Goggles
In the show he wears face paint, and I get that he was alone on an island for 5 years
and has grown accustomed to low low tech, he wouldn't want to obscure his vision.
But I think wearing goggles would make his job much easier, in not having to clean off
the face paint alone. This could also be something they show Oliver having to get
used to. But they do show him use voice altering technology, so maybe something like
this isn't too far out of his wheel house.

Costume
Along with the goggles and his non lethal arrows I would imagine he would get a new
more protective suit. The Goggles and Arrows would actually demand some changes.
How would he know what arrows are where when he grabs them? So that right there
requires some change. I am not asking for much on this part but some minor changes
perhaps. Maybe make it bullet proof at parts.
I don't think he needs to wear armor like Iron Man or even like Nolan's Batman.
Just something more advanced, maybe.

the Beard
This part is just something fun I'd like to see. To help him look different than his
vigilante persona I think it would be fun to see Oliver become clean shaven while his
Green Arrow personality wears this Robin Hood beard in battle. This would help
eliminate the need for him to constantly turn away from people and hide his face,
although I don't think he should stop that all together, I am not saying he should look
them all straight in the face, but this would just help.

These were all changes i thought about. I think some of them might happen. I'm not a big fan of the goggles though. It reminds me too much of the Smallville version of GA which wasn't bad but it wasn't really good either (same for the first take on GA in the New 52). With the Lemire arch he's started wearing a mask again. I'd like to see the shift from face paint to mask, but not goggles. The mask could also have a night vision mode. Similar to Bats' cowl in TDK.

When it comes to the beard I'd actually like him to have a real beard. It doesn't have to be the classical Goatee. The picture of Amell you posted would be perfect. To hide his face was never Ollies strongest trick, but a regular beard like the one in the picture is way more common than a goatee and stache, like the comic-version. Maybe a scarf or something like that would be a nice addition when he's near people who might recognize him. It would add a certain revolutionary flair (something he needs to get sooner or later IMO).

something like this:

I agree about trying to keep it separate from Smallville. I just thought the goggles are a realistic and natural
thing to have in the real world. But Smallville did it and so did Hawkeye. Just thought it would be much
easier and look better than the face paint. What does the mask look like in the comics now?

I'm not knocking what the show has done. I love the realistic take, every time he
meets with someone he knows he wears the hood, turns towards the dark and away
from them, and uses the voice modifier. But what got me thinking is that in the old
comics Green Arrow had that Robin Hood Beard, but that would never fly in the show
at all. Like you said a real beard would work fine.
But how would they make the Robin Hood beard usable? And I thought maybe its a
fake beard he starts wearing to change his appearance. Like Clark wearing glasses of
Black Canary wearing a wig/changing hair color. Not real necessary, just a fun idea.
What started me even thinking about the beard is that Oliver is always hiding his face
in the hood. And in the comics one time (Deathstroke I think) mentioned how he was
looking for whoever Green Arrow really was and "it shouldn't be too hard. How many
guys out there who have a Robin Hood Beard?"

So if he had this fake, but real looking, beard that might get people looking for a guy
with a beard. (again just for fun)

Furthermore this could even be part of a whole thing, where Oliver begins to develop an
identity for his vigilante self. Seeing as he will be doing this longer than he thought, he
wants to make sure that people separate him from the vigilante. A fake beard, different
voice, the name Green Arrow, and stuff could be part of it. I don't know just spouting
ideas and thoughts.

If there isn't one already, maybe this thread could be changed from evolution of his technology to evolutions of anything in Arrow.
Including character evolutions, plot evolutions, tech evolutions, concepts, costumes, Starling City as a whole, etc.

yeah I totally get your point. I just never liked the idea of goggles somehow. Looks like a profesional swimmer trying to be a superhero, haha ;)
Right now? The mask is kinda standard right now. Domino mask with the tipical white eyes.

when it comes to the beard...well I thought about the idea of the fake beard. It could work. It's just that, to me, a fake beard would look kinda goofy as a disguise. But if it is done well I'm all for it! If it can't be done without looking very fake then I'm more for the "get a real beard and cover it when someone might recognize you"-route. ;)

As for the change of the threads name: I have no idea how to do it... but if you do: Go for it my friend! ;)

I like the idea of Ollie's tech advancing right across the board, more varied arrows in particular makes sense, although I don't want Ollie to stop killing the bad guys, I'd rather the arrows were tactically specific for missions as opposed to being used to prevent killing scumbags.

I think a more protective suit makes sense and I'd like some sort of face cover for him as the eye make-up is the weakest aspect of his look. Maybe something like the Winter Soldier has in the new Captain America movie.

I'd also like to see Felicity trick out his bike. :D

If you want the thread title changing just give me the nod. :)

no unfolding glider-kite arrows = fail

Hunter: Yeah, that was exactly what i was thinking about. The Winter Soldier's "mask" seems very good for GA as a character. He wouldn't use it all the time. Just around people who might recognize him or when he gets really close to someone. That together with a classic domino mask and voilà: we have a perfect live action, 21st century GA costume. (With the possibility of later addition of armored parts on the costume here and there. Just not everywhere. GA was never the most protected superhero.)

Hypestyle: :woot:
and the m********in' Boxing Glove Arrow!

I think the beauty of Ollie having the military connection with Diggle and the high tech connection with Felciity is opens up avenues to combine the two and give him some really cool weapons and costume additions as the series goes on. The greater protective covering for his face would be my first call for sure though, I'd love to see Felicity take some nightvision goggles that Diggle brings to her and develop them into a high tech mask for Oliver to wear for the higher risk missions.

Does anyone else think Ollie's new bow might be collapsible? That'd be pretty neat.

Man, I kinda disappointed that he got a compound bow, wish he just got another Recurve bow instead, hoping he doesn't like it and switches back.

I don't want him to use a compound either. That doesn't look like a compound to me though which got me thinking to what it could be instead. It looks like it has some sort of hinges or something. Makes me think it might actually fold.

It would make sense considering how mobile he has to be. Can't sling a bow on a bike easy or parkour around carrying one.

Trust me, that's a compound bow, yeah if it can fold it might help mobility but it would decrease his loading speed a lot. I've been into archery for a while now and I know overall for his situation, a recurve bow would be his best option.

I was surprised by the compound bow also. I thought they were following the comics in which Green Arrow doesn't like compound bows and would rather have a more traditional one.

Did a quick google and you're right, it is a compound. Damn. I really didn't want Ollie using a compound.

I thought when they were doing that Super Max movie with an older Ollie, they could have just styled the goatee different ways. Like the curled up Snidely Whiplash-like mustache would be the socialite Oliver Queen and a combed down mustache would be the Green Arrow look.

Hopefully it will just be a temporary thing, in the first episode of season 2, he is still using the bow shado had.
