Q.What’s the latest on “The Green Lantern” movie? Alan
A. Apparently, a trilogy is already envisioned. No word on casting yet, but former “Dawson’s Creek” star Kerr Smith is pretty interested in slipping on the green ensemble. Something I always wondered…. how does a superhero get about carrying a lit lantern?

Hmmmmmm, Kerr Smith huh? Lemme think...uh, no. I know that actor seen him in some stuff and off the top of my head I don't see him playing Hal Jordan who is obviously going to the lead GL in the flick or Kyle Rayner. So someone needs to tell him no so we can cast Nathan Fillion or George Eads already. We need an actor with cocky, confident, swagger to play Hal Jordan. If tom cruise wasn't so short, old, expensive and crazy...he might have been a nice Hal.

Kerr Smith would make a good Kyle Raynor. He's not my first choice by any means, but he's not a bad actor and he has the Kyle "look" in my opinion... plus he's stated before that he wants the role, which I do feel is important... I get so sick and tired of actors who b**ch about playing superheroes as if the roles are "beneath" them. But yeah, he would be all wrong for Hal. My first choice for Kyle is still Wentworth Miller from "Prison Break," though.

I can't see Nathan Fillion as Hal (but then I've never really watched Firefly... however, I think Alan Tudyk would make a killer Guy Gardner) and I REALLY can't see George Eads in the role at all. But that's just me. I still like the idea of James Purefoy as Hal... he hasn't been in a great deal of stuff but he's good and I just personally think he looks perfect for the part.

Matthew Mcconaughey *sp* for hal i think he can be cocky and crazy all at the same time but he would have to dye his hair and lose most of the accent

Kerr Smith for Kyle...?

Hnnn...not my first choice by far. I think he looks like Kyle only in a very superficial sort of way. He's kinda exotic-looking and I'd always imagined Kyle looking very all-American.

But there are worse options. He's a decent actor I guess, though I haven't seen him in any lead roles. And the fact that he would willingly pursue the role of Green Lantern -- who is decidedly not a very glamorous or recognizable or popular superhero -- causes me to respect his choices, at the least:cool:

I think he's a solid choice for Kyle. He's a fan of the comics (I remember him talking up GL during his Dawson's Creek days), looks the part, he's a solid, though not spectacular actor, with some recognizance with audiences from Dawson's Creek, and young enough for a franchise. They could do much worse than him.

True, they could do much worse than him. Maybe Freddie Prinze Jr could play Kyle Rayner? I know he's a huge comic book fan.

Y'know what's funny? In Identity Crisis, artist Rags Morales specifically said that he referenced Freddie Prinze Jr. for Kyle. And I actually think he looks a lot more like Kyle than Kerr Smith does.

Too bad he can't act his way out of very, very thin paper bag with large holes in it:p.

Man, at this point, I'm just happy they're considering a trilogy! I wouldn't worry about casting now. I wonder where they got that from or if they know more specifics.

i think he could work well as Kyle, but i thought they would go with Hal as the main character?
either way im just excited that they are thinking about a Green Lantern trilogy :)

You don't make a Green Lantern movie starring Kyle Raynor. You make a Green Lanter movie starring Hal Jordan.

They brought back Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern of Earth for a reason.

Last I checked, Kyle isn't even Green Lantern anymore.

Yes, do let's bring the melodramatic fanboy bickering here:).

If they are setting the GL movie as a trilogy, there is no reason why the Corps wouldn't figure prominently in the storyline and why Hal and Kyle can't both be in it.

You don't need Kyle though.

If you bring in the Corps. you can have Katma Tui, Tomar, Kilowagg, G'Nort, and Ch'p instead.

Except Kyle's more popular and a better character (although that's a matter of opinion, obviously) than Katma Tui, Tomar, G'Nort, and Ch'p combined.

CConn...You only need one Green Lantern for earth. Putting Kyle in there would just be problematic.

The movie should be about Hal Jordan and focus on him. Not Kyle Rayner.

I'd rather see Jim Caviezel as The Green Lantern. One comic book movie with a Dawson's Creek star is enough for me.

Start off with Hal Jordan for the first two movies, have him become Paralax at the end of the second one and introduce Kyle in the third movie

But gee golly, if we're going by your "whatever's happening right now in the comics is the way it should be" model, aren't there currently two Green Lanterns per system?

You have tons of comics and room for those characters to deal with.

A movie has two hours. You don't need to put in all these other Green Lanterns other than Hal Jordan.

Also, consider... they could just NOT use Hal Jordan... maybe as a cameo appearance or something... that's always an option... I mean... do we really NEED Hal Jordan? I mean... how many fans does Hal Jordan have? A few hundred thousand? How many people go see a big movie? Millions? Tens of millions?

I agree... you don't really need all those other GLs... just stick with Kyle... or John... or Guy... or Katma... or Kilowogg...

Seems to me that they can use as many Green Lanterns in this movie as they want as long as they set it in the current time frame. Part of what makes GL so cool is the fact that he isn't alone. He has back up.

All Green Latern: The Movie needs is to have prominent GL's make passing cameos, possibly at the central battery disussing an "intergalactic disturbance". It would be even sweeter if they introduced Gardner, Rayner, Kilowog, etc earlier in the flick then later when Hal's ring runs out of power or he gets in Waaaaaaaaay over his head...whose coming to the rescue?

The Corps Headed by our all time Senior Members. They don't have to be the leads because GL has always had the Cool Ass Supporting cast.

He didn't say he used Freddie Prinze Jr. as the reference. He said he tried to use him, but ended up using the "calvin klein model" look instead.

I would love a Green Lantern trilogy.

This is how I would do it:

Have the first film be about Hal and his origin. The big bad guy would obviously be Sinestro. Hal gets some training on Oa and defeats some minor villains. The film ends with a big fight between Hal and Sinestro. There's also a romantic subplot with Hal and Carol Ferris.

Then in the second movie Hal goes into Parallax mode, kills Sinestro and tries to wipe out the guardians. One of them survives and gives a new ring to Kyle Rayner.
We see him fight someone (Mongul?) learning the trade intercut with Hal having psychological problems and doing bad things.
It all ends in a fight between them where it's revealed that Hal was infected with a the Parallax demon thing from GL: Rebirth (or something similar). After Kyle helps him free himself they bring back the Guardians who then starts the GL Corps.

The third movie starts with a fully established GL Corps on Oa. Guy, John, Kilowog and others show up in minor roles. Hal is semi-retired and has gone back to being a fighter pilot because he has doubts about if he was really responsible for killing the Guardians and Sinestro. Kyle is one of the teachers of the new GL recruits. But then Darkseid shows up wanting to know the secret of the universe from the Guardians. They refuse and Darkseid launches a war on the Corps. to force them to reveal it so that he can take control of the universe.

The whole Corps (maybe not as many as 7200 as in the comics now, but somewhere around 500) is ordered to Apokolips to put Darkseid under arrest. It's a big fight and it forces Hal Jordan to come back and together with Kyle and the others he defeats Darkseid.

I think this would make for some great movies and it would please both the Hal and Kyle fans. It would probably be an expensive trilogy, but this way they can easily stop with the first one if it isn't successful.

What do you think about it?

Not terrible, could use some work, certainly a lot of the Gl history crammed nicely in there. I still think if they go this way they'll be able to use 7200 GLs considering Apokolips is an entire planet with lseemingly millions of parademons. I think that would be an interesting idea Apokolips versus the Gl but i think the movie should incorporate Fatality and that alien race from GL: Recharge that hated GLs.
