Hello to all.

I just started reading green lantern/gl corps. I've got emerald dawn and emerald twilight and a new dawn so far. Where should I go from there? I would like to eventually get enough background to jump into green lantern and know what is going on. I'm interested in any good/important trades. (If it is an important story but it sucks, i'd rather not read it, I'll just use wikipedia). Also, is the current run on green lantern any good?

Thanks!

The current Green Lantern run has been completely awful. Sinestro Corps War was pretty good but with a crappy conclusion.

Cue everyone disagreeing with me.

The Leaguer aside, everyone seems to think very highly of Johns' run on "Green Lantern". Especially the "Sinestro Corps War" arc.

Grab Rebirth, and collect all the GLC and GL books so far. GLC is better, but GL isn't bad. There were a few clunker arcs. And of course, Sinestro Corps War is amazing.

Get all of the trades released for Marz's run.

Not...everyone.

Get Rebirth, Green Lantern Corps: Recharge (the miniseries), and then the Green Lantern Corps series. At least a cursory knowledge of the current Green Lantern run is needed to know what's been going on in Sinestro Corps War and beyond, and it looks like you've been reading up on Hal Jordan anyway, so you might as well try a bit of it to see what you think, though it might be possible to wiki it as well. I've personally been underwhelmed by it, and this is coming from someone who loved Hal's depiction in Rebirth by the same author.

Other than that, it's very self-contained and not relevant to the current status quo, but the "Fear Itself" TPB is a really cool GL story featuring Alan, Hal, and Kyle. If you're at all interested in Kyle Rayner, get "Old Journey, New Path." I'd recommend "Circle of Fire" (written by Brian K. Vaughan, of all people) and "Power of Ion" as well, except that those for some reason seem to be out of print.

Count me among the fans completely underwhelmed by Johns' GL work. Rebirth was the last thing that was remotely good, and even that was built around a really stupid central premise.

I'd say start with GLC: Recharge and continue with the GLC monthly. It's been pretty good except for two horrendous fill-in issues about Boodikka, who is thankfully not part of the main cast.

The others have pretty much said it, all of Johns' work has pretty much been about how Hal is the greatest thing since sliced bread and he worshipss him in every issue it seems. I will say though that Pretty much all of Kyle's stuff is great and Hal up until after emerald twilight is great. Sinestro Corps is cool and kinda enjoyable except Johns' ass rapes my favorite Gl, Kyle.

Ok... if the Hal Haters would leave the thread now, that would be great.

Try "The Nail" as well. It's the whole JLA but it's got good Hal stuff in it.

Best advice anyone could give you: ignore anything Franklin Richards says.

You can tell by the avatar what The Leaguer's agenda is.

Bash Hal No Matter What.

You choose who to listen too.

No one's even bashing Hal. People are just saying they've found Johns' new GL stuff underwhelming. That's hardly your typical kneejerk fanboy hatred. :o

Yeah, because Hal is a s***ty character starring in a s***ty series. They should be fighting over who gets to give me oral sex first out of appreciation for sparing them the heartache of wasting their money on a crappy comic, but I'll settle for a, "goddamn Leaguer, you're so right."

Why do you read it then?

Come on! You're telling me that the Hal Hater's eyes didn't light up when they saw this thread?

If there was another comic where Hal punches himself in the head, I would buy every copy printed.

You guys remind me of a couple of ******s I saw arguing over the color of one of their shirts. It was a pure red shirt. One of those K-Mart throwaway tees probably because as we all know, ******s are poor and have terrible fashion taste. But the one just kept saying "No it's blue!" except in tardspeak it was more like "DUN DIT BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!"

Me? I don't read Johns' GL series anymore. I gave it a few issues and got bored of it, and everything I've seen since has not inspired me to pick it back up. I did have the dubious pleasure of reading his GL writing again on the Sinestro Corps War, and that wasn't much of an improvement over the early GL comics I read, even though it was overall a decent event.

DUN DIT BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

1) I had already fixed it by the time you posted
2) First time anyone's ever made a typo on the internet when calling people ******s. Ever.
3) Seriously, you do though.
