Warner Bros. Pictures is scheduled to begin filming The Green Lantern in mid-September in Australia, reports Production Weekly.

To be directed by Martin Campbell, the comic book adaptation is targeted for a December 17, 2010 release.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan introduced in 1959, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear"

Damn, I wish they started filming sooner. That means no footage for SDCC. Well, at least we'll get IM2.

But maybe we'll get a panel from the actors and director.

should have started in Summer...
that would have left more time for post production (CGI, SFX, etc.)

was already talked about last night in the other threads lol. I agree though i thought filming would have started around july and go to nov, then post/reshoots/marketing to go from dec09-dec10. But maybe once campbell came on board he wanted more time for pre production and then since we dont have any solid leads on cast yet they would need a few months to train, costume fitting, etc.....

I hope our Australian friends are ready to spy...:ninja:

Lets just hope this doesn't mean they'll wait a while longer to announce a cast. Aside from that, woo-hoo, bring it on :gl: !!

Yes! finally a GL movie, I still can't believe it. GL is 2nd fave hero behind Bats.

How about fast tracking GL for summer 2010 now that Thor is out of the picture? WB currently has Inception for mid July... but I can't imagine that it is much further along than GL and I think Inception would do better as a Holiday release. I just think summer 2010 is too good an opportunity to pass up.

SUmmer 2010 seems crowded. Iron Man II, Interception (like you said)The LAst Airbender, Robin Hood. I think its better to release it during Christmas.
Also that leaves more time for SFX, etc.

summer 10 wouldnt be enough time with production starting in sept 09.

I thought the idea of releasing Green Lantern in December was unusual, at first. Not just because it seems like a total summer blockbuster, but because the script itself is very... summery. Coast City, sun-drenched airfields, etc.

But the more I've thought about it, the more I've decided I like the release date. It's the week before Christmas. Plenty of families are out doing their shopping, and looking for a movie to see once they're done. And too often we see some mindless holiday-themed rubbish doing big bucks just because it's showing that week before Christmas, when nothing else is. So it'd be cool seeing a worthy film in that slot again.

I would guess its more due to the release schedule; the script has a HUGE summer feel...it screams "May opener"...dunno why but the film it gave me vibes of the most was the original Mummy film.

About the Australian tax incentives, does the majority of the crew have to be from the NZ/Australian area in addition to mainly-Australian cast to qualify for the 30% rebate?

I'm a bit confused on this.

i believe it has to be i am trying to remember what folks were talking about doing the whole jl:mortal fasco.

Justice League also had several australian crew members. I believe at least 40% of the main cast needs to be Aussie for the movie to be approved. That's another motive why i believe Sam Worthington will get the role.

possible we dont know if they are/want to get the huge tax break on the film and i doubt the film would be over 150mill so they might be fine with just taking the standard lower tax break amount.

This movie is going to rock, my family and I got to the movies every chirstmas as a tradition (like a lot of families) so I can't wait for Dec 2010, so I can put Green Lantern in the hat, and see it probably for a 5th time.

The thing I see is that the summers have good movies playing during the season, but it gets to crowded, for example summer of '08 it was one movie after another of blockbusters, so I think WB is putting this in Dec to spread it out and plus like someone else said get the Xmas crowd.

Yeah. It may be an offshoot, but if GL does EXTREMELY well, I wouldn't be surprised if Warners and its competitors start releasing more blockbuster movies around Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays to get people who are off work and their kids, etc..

I can see Warners pegging a Superman reboot in December 2012 and save the third Batman movie for July 2012. I can't see a Batman movie getting a holiday release, it's more geared towards the summer.

Superman, GL= Christmas Season
Batman, Flash, Aquaman (def)= Summer

Wonder Woman can go either way

Most likely. I'm sure that GL, Carol, Hammond, and 'Stro have all been cast.

its likely or they could be close to signin we dont know. But they probably have to have the leads cast soon so it gives them all plently of time for training to get into shape, training for sfx sequences, costume fitting and all that jazz that needs to be done before filming gets underway.
