Smallville Vs Lois and Clark ?

Superman Returns was far superior. Superman Returns is a good film and IMO better then Man of Steel in terms of story and storytelling.

Rewatch Superman 1, Superman 2, and then Returns. It really improves Returns and you can see Returns works.

Only problem IMO with Returns is the Superkid but still it was good. Green Lantern was not.

Green Lantern...... because it pissed me off less than Superman REturns.
Yes it was an awful film. But it took a great character, who is not quite as well known as Superman, and made him a joke.

Superman returns took the greatest superhero of all time and made him incredibly lame and boring. To me, that's the greater sin. I'd rather watch
Quest for Peace, than Superman Returns -as it at least treats the main character better.

Also, Mark Strong did Sinestro some Justice, whereas Kevin Spacey was a pretty average Lex Luthor (surprising as usually Spacey excells at villain roles).

So Green Lantern, because it was less awful.

Two of my least favorite DC heroes, two of my least favorite adaptations of them.

I'd have to go with Superman Returns, though. That one was just exceedingly boring; Green Lantern was head scratchingly stupid-bad.

Have no desire to ever see either again, though. I'll stick to their respective Bruce Timm animated series.

This is like picking which limb I would prefer to have shoved in a meat grinder

Green Lantern.

Superman Returns might look like a better film, but the story really wasn't any better. People can complain about a turd cloud being the main villain and Hal Jordan being an unlikable *****e, but I fail to understand how Lex Luthor's moronic "grow an island in the middle of the ocean and sell real estate on it after I kill half the people in the United States" plot and a Superman with no personality are any better.

How anyone can say SR is better than Man of Steel is beyond me. At least in MOS, Superman was ****ing character in his own movie, and not a dues ex machina who is just there to lift giant objects whenever it's convenient. But I guess that's another debate.

I just think its depressing that even in this massive CBM boom, we haven't seen a single great CBM from either Superman or Green Lantern.

In terms of this poll, however...clearly Superman Returns.

Agreed ! SR might look better, but it's really not. GL at least only craps on a mythology that the general public aren't that well acquainted with.
It's stupid but mildly entertaining, with a couple of good performances (sadly, not by anyone in a leading role, ugh ! Blake Lively was the worst love interest ever). Still, it doesn't make us go away with a foul taste in our mouths when we think about GL in general. There are a couple of funny moments, and a few reasonable special effects.

In comparison SR ****s all over not only an iconic character, but manages to also tarnish Superman the Movie, by rehashing everything wrong with it, then adding a few little turds of its own, and leaving out everthing that made the 1978 film a classic -like fun, or charm, or good acting, or action, or suspense, or .....you see where I'm going with this.

( In terms of Deus ex machina, Superman is the ultimate Deus ex machina in Superman the movie but it still works because the filmmakers were smart enough to give him a personality, and actually have the film be about him. SR is some extended cameos of Superman getting his ass kicked and lifting stuff. Curse you Brian Singer !)

Superman Returns, I actually really like the film. I view it as the the third film of the Donner trilogy. The only I went crazy for in Green Lantern was Mark Strong's Sinestro.

Superman Returns is superior. It's only sins are Lex Luthor's plans and Superman lacking anything to punch. And Kate Bosworth. Otherwise, it's not bad. Green Lantern is terrible in every way.

Not a fan of either, but Green Lantern sucks a lot harder.

The ending of Superman the Movie doesn't work at all and is a shocker with regards to Deus ex machina. That movie should be shown to all budding screen writers how NOT to end a movie. They (essentially) do the same thing in Superman 2. Lazy writing at its worst.

Agreed x100. An 'iconic' ending to be sure, (and also lifted from a comic panel if I recall correctly), but a bad one nonetheless. No matter the threat or consequence, the viewer knows Superman just has to get angry, fly around the planet at speed and hey presto, all fixed.

Green Lantern was terrible in ways I didn't know it was possible to be terrible in for this day and age. Even just shot-to-shot... it was amateur hour. Most (again, most) of Superman Returns problems come from the script. Green Lantern's come from everything.

It's a shocker. Unforgivable. Martha dead. Jonathan dead. Lois dead. RELAX Superman can just fly around the world and fix it. The movie gives us so much in the first two acts and then takes it all away in the climax. A shocking way to end a movie. Superman is actually flying back in time rather than turning back the world but it is still a shocker.

The director of the new Green Lantern movie is in a great position of not being able to make the reboot worse than the first attempt.

Neither were bad, but I'm going to vote GL for the personal reason of preferring just about any Lantern to Superman.

Not sure if it was lazy or just a misunderstanding of Superman, or maybe Puzo was trying to make out that Superman pretty much is God, an incredibly unsubtle way.

Who knows ? Anyway, the ending bugged me when I saw it as a kid ( even as an 8 year old I thought "How does flying around the world turn back time ? And then when time starts going forwards again, the damage will still occur).

Yeah, it's bad, but it doesn't ruin the movie - Superman is still a classic, which pretty impressive, as a crappy resolution to the central conflict usually kills a film - but STM still manages to be heaps of fun. I'll watch Superman the movie any time its on TV.

Still, Superman lifting the Kryptonite island and chucking it into space isn't quite the same level of deus ex machina - but its also **** storytelling, as the kryptonite (which rendered Superman powerless and susceptible to an almightly ass kicking earlier) now barely slows him down.

I still think Superman returns is a worse movie, I suppose that its the unoriginality of it - that it tries to imitate Donner's films, but gets it horribly wrong.
At least GL's faults are its own, completely original **** ups. I mean, I can see why folks think GL is worse, but I still found it mildly entertaining - whereas Superman returns just pissed me off at every turn.

As such, if I had to choose which of them to watch, it'd be neither....but if I was forced at gunpoint, it would be GL .

Just IMO.

Green Lantern failed because story line was weak and the villain didn't click with the general audience. However at least it didn't have tons of writing errors that should have been fleshed out like Superman Returns. It was like they took a rough draft of a movie and decided that it was the final script with out really fleshing out the script. I'll give a prime example of the writing error that should been fleshed out.

Superman lands on Kryptonite Island and he becomes weaken by the effects. This allows a couple thugs to beat the crap out of him. Then gets dragged across the ground while screaming "I'm still Superman!". Then Lex proceeds to stab him with piece of Kryptonite and throw him over the edge. Lois saves him removes apart of the Kryptonite from his body but not all of it. Superman gets out of the plane hovers in front of the sun. The next thing we know he's lifting the island up over his head and in to space.

Now all of it was okay till he lifts the island over his head and in to space. First of all he wouldn't be able to do that cause minute he got near the thing he would be to weak to lift it to do anything. Second if he could find the strength to lift the island over his head why didn't he put up a much better fight against the thugs. I mean he still has his strength which means he still had access to his other powers to some degree. Instead he just choose to stand there and get beat up.The film had tons of mistakes that should have been fleshed out.

Green Lantern had a weak story line and poor villain but at least the writing didn't contain overly obvious errors and mistakes. I can at least sit through Green Lantern with out cringing.

I hate Superman Returns. I consider it to be one of the worse films ever made in the history of cinema.

I'll agree with this. For all it's faults SR at least gave us that one "wow" moment we all crave when we watch a Superman film. The plane rescue scene is pure wish fulfillment, taking you back to the first time you watched Donner's film and wanted to be Superman.

MoS just doesn't have anything like that.

I voted SR... GL has it's moments (Sinestro, Oa scenes) but HalJordon/Green Lantern himself was just not good. Sadly Ryan Reynolds is not a RDJ

SR at least has some wow moments and a heart which GL doesn't have.

I voted for SR.
