Chris Evans To Star In Neill Blomkamp’s Disaster Thriller ‘Greenland

Details on Greenland’s plot are being kept close to the vest. It’s the story of a family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster. Principal photography is set for the last quarter of 2018.

No other details or casting is known, but it’s a casting package that comes out of Cannes, and they tend to be very preliminary. No word when the film will hit theaters, but principal photography is set for Q4 at the end of this year. Here’s the official release.

Greenland is produced by Thunder Road Picture’s Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, John Wick, The Town). Anton is co-financing with Riverstone Pictures. Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and Harold van Lier are executives producing with Riverstone’s Nik Bower and Deepak Nayar. CAA Media Finance arranged the film’s financing and will represent the project’s domestic rights alongside Endeavor Content. Anton is fast emerging as a major industry player having already introduced the $40m Fireheart to buyers at Cannes.

Thunder Road developed the picture with Riverstone and UK financier Ingenious Media.

STXinternational, a division of STX Entertainment, is handling international distribution for the highly anticipated film as well as directly distributing the film in the UK and Ireland. The company will present the project to buyers at the Marche du Film.

“When we read Greenland, we knew it was exactly the sort of film we wanted to make as we build the Anton brand – smart, character-driven genre with action and heart. We are very excited to work alongside our friends at STX with such exceptional talent as Neill Blomkamp, Chris Evans, and Basil Iwanyk,” said Sébastien Raybaud, CEO of Anton.

“Greenland is the kind of highly commercial genre fare that sees Neill Blomkamp doing what he does best: delivering a smart, fresh, high concept narrative in a world we can easily recognize,” said David Kosse, President of STXinternational. “We were immediately attracted to this talent-driven, wide release, theatrical title that is so distinctive of the STX brand. Working alongside Neill, Thunder Road, Riverstone and Anton to bring this to the marketplace is a tremendous opportunity.”

Chris Evans  Glad it doesn't seem like he's retiring from acting

Blomkamp  Been really mediocre to bad since District 9

Just keep Neill away from the script and we should be good.

I like Gerry, but he should stick to Den of Thieves type roles.

... yeah, so I thought this was about Trump wanting to buy it.

LOL that was my first thought when I saw this thread. Anyway, when I opened the thread and saw Chris Evans and Neill Blomkamp, I was interested. But then I scrolled down and saw that it's another why-isn't-this-movie-direct-to-DVD Gerard Butler turd. ****, will he just go away already? I can't believe there have been THREE of those god-awful "Has Fallen" movies.

With Butler’s involvement, I was expecting something more like Geostorm so the not-a-literal-cartoon trailer was definitely a surprise. Still looked mediocre though.

It doesn't look that bad IMO, although maybe that's because I thought this was a pretty decent and well cut trailer. It already looks better than Geostorm to me, so hopefully its good, because I would hate to see Gerard Butler stuck in another mediocre disaster movie.

Watched this tonight. Whilst it won’t win any oscars, it was actually a lot better than I expected - more character driven, less reliant on CGi and much less cheesy than similar fare like 2012/Geostorm/etc. It distinctly doesn’t feel like an Emmerich production, what is what I was probably subconsciously expecting.

From the clips I've seen it has that mix of kind of cheesy but also remarkably effective that's hard not to get into when watching a film that can pull that off. Intense fun.

Just finished it and really liked it. Thought it was cool that it was pretty grounded in reality to the extent these movies allow. I'm a sucker for killer comet/asteroid movies.
