Jim Carrey's actually one of my faves, so I wouldn't be all that disappointed if he got this, though I was so stuck on the idea of a British actor for Rocket. And Michael Rooker for Groot. Carrey could be interesting.

Have to remind myself... Carrey might earn his CBM bonafides if he pulls off KA2...

A big, fat no to Sandler. I like his earlier comedies and PDL, but Jack & Jill should've perma-banned him from Hollywood.

Also, that list of other actors reading for Quill? Blech. I'll take Krasinski over any of them.

Oh, what fresh hell is this? :o

Carrey, I don't mind so much. Sandler flat out needs to retire.

I doubt Sandler would do it anyway, he'll be too busy making another crappy comedy with his buddies and collecting another $50M paycheck

I almost have to wonder... Is Marvel trolling us?

This movie, I swear. Two steps forward, and a zillion back!

Perhaps Sandler will be re-donning his wig from Jack & Jill to take on the role of Gamora?

There has to be some level of trolling in some of the info that's getting out there... Sandler? Zach Levi?????

I'm still hoping Edgerton rises from the ashes to nab the Star-Lord role. And the idea of Carrey as Rocket is pretty exciting

You don't get to put only one question mark behind Sandler's name, but five behind Levi's. That's just unacceptable. :o

Edgerton or Pace for me for Quill. Really, though, I'm just ready for them to s*** or get off the pot already. This casting's giving me fits.

I hope you're right about that. An ad for You Don't Mess With The Zohan came on earlier, one of Sandler's many entries in the "Worst Film Ever?" sweepstakes. Hopefully he and Feige aren't BFFs because he isn't even fit to say "I am Groot!" a dozen times.

^ Of course, how could I have been so blind?

I just see Feige and Gunn laughing their asses off and high-fiving as they spread bizarre rumors, having actually completed casting months ago.

Why retire when the studios pay him to take vacations? :o

Well, when I say "retire", I mean for our benefit, not his. So, not so much an actual retirement as much as just locking him in a coffin and dropping him to the ocean floor.

Funny People and Anger Management were great movies IMO. I've hated nearly everything else he's ever done.

This.

When the original shortlist was published by deadline, the actors were pretty much what you'd expect from Marvel: Very talented, with none of them having broken out. Since then, the actors linked (JGL aside) have all been a step backwards.

I get the impression it's Groot for Jim Carrey since he could do more with a character like that...plus has voice acting and motion capture experience (A Christmas Carol).. also has a bit of cred for having a supporting role in Kick-Ass 2.. remember he can act just watch Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind..

Adam Sandler has a very known voice even more so when he get's angry.. I feel like he might be our Rocket Raccoon.. loved him in Punch-Drunk Love wished he took more dramatic roles after that instead of what he's done recently..

Adam was also Tarantino's original choice for Donny in Inglorious Basterds..

not really on board with the new names in the running for Star-Lord that they also list (Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell, and Cam Gigandet).. they're really at the bottom of barrel with those guys..

however.. Chris Lowell might be decent enough with supporting roles in Veronica Mars, The Help (alongside Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain) and Up In The Air..If you want a Levi-type for Quill he's your best bet plus they have a history hiring actors with the name Chris for their leads hehe :)

Would Carrey really be Groot? Groot isn't known for saying much, whereas Rocket Raccoon is. Would you get Carrey for just a little-speaking role?

they're re-working characters like Gamora and Drax..there had been talk that Groot would see more development as well, mainly he would be given the ability to say more than "I AM GROOT"..Kevin Feige mentioned in one of the many interviews..I'd try to track it down but so many sites to sift through.. it's nice for the comics to have a character not to say much because it eases the writers on a team project but kind of hard for an actor to play..

this is also the company that hires Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner for small supporting roles..let's also not kid ourselves Jim Carrey isn't the Jim of the 90's... he's not getting many quality studio offers these days

It's safe to say that Carrey or Sandler would be hired for voice-over work only; Marvel wouldn't be willing to pay the going rate for either star's face time.

I don't see either of them going for Groot, nor do I see that being a huge voice-over role in any event.....they could get literally *anybody* with a deep voice for Groot and fx it up.

So....Rocket Raccoon, obviously.
Sandler does *not* have the voice talent for Rocky; a big "hellno" to some annoying nails-on-chalkboard grating Brooklyn accent coming out of RR's mouth. At least Carrey has some extensive range on voice acting, and could probably come up with an accent that actually makes sense.

As for the three new hats in the Quill ring: Chris Lowell looks just like Krasinski. Why dance around the issue? Just get Krasinski already

disagree with you but respect the opinion.. I think Carrey can pull any voiceover character off, his long career in stand-up and on In Living Color proves this.. Sandler would make a good Rocket with the right writer and direction, mainly Gunn could make us believers.. Lowell has better credits than Krasinski , being in The Help alongside Emma Stone (Amazing Spider-Man) and Iron Man 3 hopeful Jessica Chastain could be a giant reason why he get's the role... plus he has a following from his roles in Private Practice and Veronica Mars..

I don't think having bit parts in good movies necessarily gives Lowell a better resume than Krasinski.

Who is the villain going to be in this movie? Is it indeed Thanos? Or will he be more in the background? If they have another secondary villain, it could be Michael Korvac, although he's extremely powerful as well. He singlehandedly destroyed all of the original Guardians and the Avengers together.

All roads lead to Thanos. :)
