Jim Carrey? As Rocket? Yes...y.e.s.

Unlike Mr. Sandler I still like Jim Carrey even today. Not just a comedian but a great actor. Partially because I grew up watching his stuff. He is great! (Best part about Batman Forever :o)

I would be fine with Carrey in any capacity, but keep Sandler away from anything EVER. Seriously, he's ****ing awful. His movie's were funny to me when I was 8 because that's what his sense of humor caters to, but now his stuff is vomit inducing. Here's hoping this is just another stupid rumor.

You know he's done some actual acting, right? He's not all stupid comedies. He's absolutely fantastic in Reign Over Me.

I can actually HEAR the voice Sandler would use as one of these characters and I'm actively trying to hold back the vomit.

Unfortunately the number of stupid comedies he's done far outweighs any dramatic roles he might have done. If Marvel is going after Carrey or Sandler it would be a safe bet to say that they want them for comedic relief. Sandler comedic sensibilities just don't go over well with me anymore.

Yeah, if anyone actually thinks that Sandler would actually whip out his moderate level of acting talent for a film called Guardians of the Galaxy... they're fooling themselves.

They're gonna bring in big name actors in supporting roles, that's kind of their thing. I doubt hiring Carrey or not will affect how much they have budgeted out for space shots

they bring in well known actors in support roles, but they are still seen, not just heard. the point is if they are only providing a voice, there are more talented VO actors than these 2 guys are. they could get a better actor for much less. like they did with paul bettany in iron man

there lies the problem with the original story from LatinoReview...because voiceover talent isn't hired around the same time as screen actors.. they're usually hired in post..they're either being looked at for roles other than Rocket and Groot.. or those roles will also require on set motion capture like Ruffalo in Avengers.. LR was guessing when they named Rocket and Groot, they didn't say they were sure what the roles were...they could be up for Thanos for all we know

This *is* a movie site. People are aware Sandler can act when he wants too.

My personal fave is Spanglish.

I think the worry is that he'll take something like Rocket and try to apply his brand of comedy to the role, which would be...not so good.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking at Carrey for the role of Thanos. He's a pretty big guy, a very talented actor and has an expressive, rubbery face that can convey emotion (including the Thanos "smile") through layers of makeup.

Though not exactly comedic, Thanos has usually been depicted as a guy with a big personality who really enjoys his job (even if it involves murdering half of the Universe) and is not above engaging in witty repartee with his foes. If Marvel is thinking of having Thanos pop up in multiple films, Carrey could be a perfect fit as a very talented actor looking for a high profile franchise.

Seriously, what? I am trying to be nice, but this has got to be one of the most foolish things I have ever heard. Jim Carey for Thanos? Jim Carrey for Thanos?

that's what I think. I think Jim Carrey would be good for Rocket

Why in the hell is Carrey being suggested for Thanos???? Has the whole world gone crazy?!?!?!

Thanks for being "nice". Let's look at the facts - Jim Carrey is an extremely talented actor who has received critical acclaim in both comedic and dramatic roles. At one point not so long ago he was the most popular actor on the planet. He is tall (6'2" according to IMDB) so he can "fill the suit", and is great at physical comedy - he can probably handle action sequences without much need for stunt work. He has a rubbery face and has acted successfully under heavy prosthetics in both the Mask and the Grinch.

Carrey is in a bit of a career lull, not unlike RDJ a few years ago. (I'm guessing your response to Iron Man casting rumors back in 2007 - "Seriously, what? Robert Downey Jr. for Iron Man? Robert Downy Jr. for Iron Man?"). Carrey would probably agree to a reasonable salary to take what could be a career defining role, and his star power will put Marvel's riskiest movie to date in the public spotlight.

I'm going to double down on my comment - Jim Carrey may be the best choice for Thanos. I would welcome an intelligent rebuttal that isn't "Seriously, what?"

Yes because RDJ playing a billionaire playboy and Jim Carrey playing Thanos are comparable.

Are you serious? You're really pulling for Carrey as Thanos. Thanos should be imposing, threatening and have a massive presence. We can all agree Jim Carrey is talented, but being talented doesn't automatically make someone a shoe in for such a role as Thanos.

Well that largely depends on the script. Not the actor.

I don't think that's the case, with all due respect. I can give the same line to ten different people and they'd probably read it ten different ways. Great writing is important, but having the right people giving the dialog is equally important.

Carrey is a gifted actor - he can be as imposing and threatening as the role requires. If the rumors are true that Marvel is considering Carrey for a role in GOTG, I doubt it is for Rocket or Groot. The main characters will be the first to be hired, not voice over actors for sidekicks. Personally, I think he would be an inspired choice.

Rocket Raccoon is one of the main characters and the actor will likely be on set throughout the shoot, both to provide some motion capture for the character and to give the other actors something to work off of.

Groot is another story, since he's not likely to have much dialogue or much intimate interaction with the other characters.

From what I recall, RDJ did not really recieve any crap for landing Stark. I remember being pumped for it, and from what I saw here, it looked like most of the hype was cool with. Thanos on the other hand, is something totally different. Being a talented actor doesn't necessarily make you RIGHT, for Thanos. Do you read comics at all? I'm not being sarcastic, but maybe you haven't read much with Thanos/know much about him? Idk man, I really don't know where that idea comes from

I agree, Carrey as Thanos is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in a long time. When I think of Thanos, Michael Duncan Clarke is the first person that comes to mind and if he hadn't passed away, I think he would have been perfect. He was large, muscular and had a deep voice, all of which is required to play Thanos.

And when it comes to the latest incarnation of Drax, Vin Diesel is the most obvious choice because of his role as Riddick and I wouldn't be surprised if Riddick was the inspiration for the new Drax.

- Thanos

Michael Clarke Duncan was always my ideal Thanos too

But despite his dramatic roles, whenever anyone mentions the name Jim Carrey, they still expect to see him in a comedic role. Since there are many other physically imposing and decent actors out there, anyone would question why you would get someone who would be better for Rocket Raccoon for Thanos. People might think that Thanos is meant to be a comedic role with his name attached. If they see "Jim Carrey as Rocket Raccoon", it has the potential to be more of a scene stealing character. "Jim Carrey as Thanos" just causes people to scratch their head and say "what???"

It would be more like getting someone like RDJ for Cap or Thor when he's clearly more suited for Stark.
