You could look at it a couple ways. You could look at it that way, or a conscious effort by Marvel to create cohesiveness between the movies and comics. Either way, it adds more credence to those being Nova ships.

Again, after the fact.
But yeah, it could be a case of Marvel Comics having to reimagine concepts, storylines, and characters based on the movies. There's plenty of that going around these days.

awesome Guardians of The Galaxy art from Marvel artist and film concept artist Adi Granov... getting the impression these are the costumes they might be using, sorry purists..

Sorry, but no.
That's not Stark's movie Deep Space armor.
Which means that odds are *very* high that none of the rest of that picture refers to the movie, either.

What are all of those lights all over groot? I've seen them before but didn't know what they were.

I believe the formal term is 'stupid garbage'

I suppose they're to make him look more sci-fi-ish. As if him beeing an alien tree wasn't enough.

Gunn has hinted that the costume will be closer to DnA's designs.

Also...that **** is horrible. Not even Granov can make Gamora-lite look badass. And Star-Lord looks like a custom Commander Shepard.

Really starting to not like what Marvel is doing with Guardians/Nova in the comics the more I think and read about it...

The Mass Effect Guardians is one of the many reasons I'm not looking forward to Bendis run on this title. Also, I doubt these will be the actual costumes for the movies. They might go with something similar but there's really no reason why the costumes used in the concept art can't work.

Seriously way to strip any uniqueness out of your characters via generic space outfits

What kid would want to dress up as Star Lord for Halloween in that costume???

Lame, generic BS... very disappointing since the redesign came from McNiven

Between this and the new outfits for Captain America, Cable, Iron Man, Cyclops, Havok, Hawkeye, Rogue, etc.. MarvelNOW has the worst f***ing costumes ever.
Makes me miss the 90's with their big guns, pouches, and clashing colors

I agree, there old costumes have more of that Superhero vibe while these new ones makes them look like there in a Prometheus movie.

I'm pretty sure they're going to use the costumes in the concept art. No need to worry guys.

Well it's more trendy, I guess, moving away from comic book/swashbuckling Star Wars outfits and more to a Mass Effect look.

That's fine, I think Star-Lord suffered the most out of the four. His outfit looks generic. He lost that pulpy, Buck Rogers outfit that I like, along with that cool helmet.

I think I know what they're trying to do: ground Star-Lord a bit and make his appearance more (obviously) human. But they also took away what made him look special in the first place.

I just think its taking away some of their identity. Whatever, I'll complain when we actually know what they're going to look like.

They really don't look anything like the armor in Mass Effect.

However.

I'm reading Annihilation and basically anything is better than the dumb**** V-thong outfit Gamora's wearing. That thing sails right past fanservice and straight into ****ing stupid territory.

Also I hope they hew close to this cuz it's pretty sweet:

If you look at the other pieces of art, you can most definitely see the influence on a conscious level.

I couldn't agree more about Gamora's getup. It would be really hard to be a ****-kicking badass in that costume. That thing has to be glued to sensitive areas of her body with some damn strong adhesive to stay in place the way it does, and it provides no protection. I know she's got a "healing factor" and some invulnerability, but she did get scorched to a crisp that one time and the suit didn't help her a bit. Most guys have never had to worry about this, but let me tell you the last thing you want to have to think about during strenuous activity is getting a strip of fabric jammed into an uncomfortable area or involuntary indecent exposure. It's possible for a costume to be both sexy and practical, like the Black Widow's catsuit.

In the GOTG concept art Gamora was wearing something similar to her comic look but with less exposed skin I think that would work perfectly.

I think the reason we're seeing this new version of the armor is that certain members of the team (Star-Lord, RR, Gamora) need to look like they have a suit that's actually meant for space combat. Star-Lord's old suit hasn't aged well. For me, at least, it's hard to buy some guy fighting on alien worlds in something that looks like it's made of cotton.

I'm not saying the so-called Mass Effect armors are great, either. I think we'll see something in the middle of the two designs.

I mostly just like his helmet. He looks cool in the concept art they released too though.

True that
The concept art was really the only indication we have of what they might look like in the movie
And the costumes there were much better than the "mass effect" suits shown above

Rocket looks sweet in the space suit.
Star-Lord and Gamora, not so much.

and I gotta say, it's funny when people harp on costumes as being fan-service
They're all fan service. Most superhero characters outside of Iron Man are basically naked and body painted
Making a character "cover-up" basically consists of coloring a body part differently
Ask any artist, all these characters are nude, it's why anatomy is so important
