I didn't see a thread about this.

    http://www.marvel.com/news/comicstories.2281.EXCLUSIVE:_New_Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_Series

I'm looking forward to this new series, as somebody who never followed the old concept and incarnations. I remember awhile back when legendary and iconic writer/artist extraordinaire, John Byrne (!!!), declared that if he returned to M***** (aka... Marvel), he'd be interested in doing a new Guardians series. I thought that would be a perfect fit for him, so part of me wishes that he was the guy, but the other part is perfectly happy about this, because Paul Pelletier is a great artist who needs to be given stability.

The guy can draw 12 issues a month, yet Marvel just won't let him do that for whatever reason. Hopefully, this will be the place they allow him to make his mark. Was looking forward to a nice run by him on Nova's series, so hopefully, this doesn't end up as another case of Marvel not knowing what they are doing, with Pelletier launching the new series, and then moving on after 6 issues. I also hope Marvel doesn't do anything moronic like publishing more than 12 issues a year like they are doing with New Exiles, preventing their 12 issue a year artist from doing an uninterrupted that's run not hampered by fill-in art. STUPID!

Anyway, I do have high hopes for this concept. I'm sure a few disgruntled fans of the old series still remain, but I wasn't one of them, so this is the first time I've been excited or interested in Guardians of the Galaxy. I didn't read any of the Annihilation stuff.

No Warlock, Nova, Mar-Vell or Quasar, what's the deal? if you're going to do a Cosmic movie go all out. Why go to bat with characters that most fanboys aren't even all that familiar with?

New series? That link is 4 1/2 years old.

Why'd you bleep out Marvel's name only to spell it out? What was the point of that?

What does John Byrne have to do with this? The series was written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. And thankfully I'm glad that's who they went with. Abnett and Lanning are fantastic and did a great job on their run. I have no idea what they're going to do with the new run with Bendis, though. I'd prefer if Abnett and Lanning were to come back because, frankly, I think Bendis is overrated.

Weird. How'd it end up in the continuation thread? I just looked at the old thread and it's not as if it was there towards the end and got carried over or anything.

I believe they use the first new post from the previous thread. So since that was the post that started the first thread, it ends up here starting this one.

Well if there is a movie, there will damn sure be a new ongoing..despite maybe they'll announce at NYC?

BTW I really find it strange that marvel would cancel the series, and only 1 year later deceide it is worth doing a movie.

I mean thats just plain weird. It's like they have no clue what they are doing.

What works in comics may or may not necessarily work in movies. I mean, Marvel decided Blade was a good property to go ahead with in the movie department, of all things, and that character hadn't been more than a second-string team character in Marvel's supernatural comics for years. Yet the movies ended up doing pretty well.

The second one was even a good movie. That third one is good for a few laughs, but, yeah.

yeah but at that time they had just struck out with the superhero stuff. It was still surprising though.

I miss the cosmic books so much. Rocket is probably one of the best characters in Marvel, which is why I am so happy that the upcoming Guardians movie involves his group...so we can enjoy constant streams of Peter/Rocket quips. :D

With him being in the expanded version of "Marvel vs. Capcom 3", and now in the MMO, I think Marvel's finally caught on that Rocket could be a big character for them. Just hope the push for him goes better than the one for Gorilla Man.

Gorilla Man wasn't going to be in a movie or video game that the mass public has a chance of playing/seeing. I think in that alone they've been smarter about Rocket's push.

I would've really preferred some more charismatic characters instead of Drax and Gamora. I mean, one or the other is fine (I prefer Drax), but both? Green tough guy overkill.

Granted, that early pic probably isn't reflective of what the final cast will look like.

If we do get an ongoing again with the movie on the way, I just really hope they don't change things from the way D&A wrote it. No weird new "Ultimate" costumes, etc

The fact that Starlord has suddenly adopted the costume he wore years ago is a worrisome sign right there.

Yeah, takes away so much personality. Also, we need Cosmo to come back.

Avengers Assemble. He was blonde, maskless, and wearing the old-school Star-Lord costume from way back in the day. Odd--and a real shame to lose that badass helmet--but not really a dealbreaker in any way.

The movie promo art we've seen so far shows Star-Lord in something approaching his badass helmet, although it's more of a mask than a helmet. Still, the look is preserved, so it seems like they're at least edging in that direction right now. That's a good sign.

Oh, I should probably start reading that book. I just tend to avoid the comics that come out to parallel movies.

You shouldn't, Spoons. Remember the Guardians for what they were, not what the are.
