MANCHESTER, Conn. A gunman opened fire at a beer distribution company in Manchester, Conn., shooting seven people and killing at least three early Tuesday morning.
The alleged shooter, a warehouse worker named Omar Thornton, then turned the gun on himself as police approached, according to The Hartford Courant.
The shooting took place at Hartford Distributors Inc., about 10 miles east of Hartford, Conn.
A company executive said Thornton, 34, had been accused of stealing from Hartford Distributors and had been called in for a disciplinary hearing Tuesday, sources told NBC Connecticut.
Police said there were "multiple fatalities" at a press conference Tuesday, but would not confirm exactly how many had been killed and how many were injured because they had not been able to reach the families of all the victims.
A Hartford Hospital spokesperson said three shooting victims had been transported to the hospital between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. One of the victims is dead, another is in serious condition and a third is in fair condition, according to Hartford Hospital spokesperson Michaela Donnelly.
Brett Hollander, Hartford Distributors' director of marketing, said about 50 to 70 people were in the warehouse at the time of the shooting Tuesday morning and that shifts were just changing.
