So. It's actually coming out. The single is out, there's a song in Rock Band, and a song at the end of Body of Lies. Best Buy has it on their website, with album art. GNR.com has a countdown going to it. Exactly, to the day, 15 years after "The Spaghetti Incident?" Chinese Democracy is actually almost here. So let's talk about GNR, which these days is pretty much synonymous with Axl Rose. I still think Appetite for Destruction is one of the best hard rock albums ever made. I enjoy the rest of their stuff too, even the ones that get blasted a lot for being different. I feel a lot of the hate coming towards the leaked Chinese Democracy demos was just that too, people who don't like it simply because it's not what GNR used to be. If you want that, there's always Velvet Revolver, although Slash and friends were able to piss of Scott Weiland enough to quit, so they're currently without a lead singer.

The new single is pretty great, I think. Even my father, who worked at a bar in the late 80's and heard Sweet Child O' Mine constantly leading him to hate GNR, and specifically Axl's voice, with a passion, called it excellent when I played it for him. I think that while it's definetly modern sounding, it's also undeniabley Guns N' Roses. I've really enjoyed all the demos that leaked as well.

What do you all think of GNR? Chinese Democracy? Axl?

I love the old GNR stuff. Appetite is one of my favourite albums, with a quite a few songs that just don't seem to age, at all. Axl's ok. I'm not really that kind of fan that looks too much at a band or the frontman (although I did have a faze of reading books about Lennon ). If the songs are good, then that's really all that matters to me. And the new songs seem great - not the same as before, but nothing ever is.

Eh, I hope it's good. I like half of Appetite for Destruction (I honestly think half of that album is C R A P--but the other half is just so damn good).. Both Use Your Illusion's are a mix bag.. and there's nothing more.

I also liked Oh My God..

Where are you all hearing these songs? Could someone PM me a link or something. Thanks.

Youtube, type in chinese democracy

November Rain is and will likely remain one of my favorite songs.

November Rain is like Epic. I love that song. I still wonder where GNR would be if Axl wasn't such a *****e.

Guns N' Roses is one of my favorite bands. I absolutely love them and found them to be one of the most talented bands of all time.

Where would Guns N' Roses be if Axl wasn't a *****e? I imagine they'd probably still be as popular now than they were back in the later 80's and 90's. But even the greatest bands haven't always gotten along and with Axl you still never know with him. When they tried their comeback around 2000-2002 he reverted back to not showing up for the gigs.

So as talented and as charismatic as he is, he's still dangerous and unpredictable to say the least.

If Axl would have gotten out of his own way, they would probably up there with Metallica as far as albums made and sold.

People always talk about Axl, saying he's a *****e but they dont know the whole story. Like they say that he's such a whiny b***h for jumping into the crowd and punching the guy filming the show in St. Louis, when that is so wrong. That guy was in a local biker gang(The Saddle Tramps), he was bothering crowd members and some of the other band members. You can see him handing Axl a note at the end of Dust N' Bones that just said "Stump from the Saddle Tramps". Axl asks if it was worth interrupting him for. He continued to cause problems and when they started playing Rocket Queen he pulled out the camera. Axl tells security to take it but they don't because they are friends of Stump. When they(band) left a crowd member ran onstage security started to beat on him, thus a riot started.

There's a bunch of things people say why he is a dick, but they don't know the whole story. I'm not saying sometimes he wasn't. Like when he replaced Slash's solos on Sympathy for the Devil with Paul Tobias'. That was all him, but then a again Slash and Duff didn't want to play Patience and Estranged at first in the UYI Tour, and come on those are two of the best Gn'R songs.

I'm fairly optimistic about the album, but I'm not sure how it will be received. I've heard several of the leaked songs and they were pretty good. I have a feeling it will never be able to live up to the hype no matter how good it is. There's such a build up and background behind this album that it will have a hard time meeting expectations.

Having said that, I am looking forward to it. It will be good to finally have some new material from GnR.

On where you can hear the songs, if you're looking for finished ones, and not demos, gunsnroses.com has the first single, and title track, from Chinese Democracy up. If you youtube Shackler's Revenge, you can find it ripped from Rock Band 2. And you can hear about the first minute of If The World at the end of the movie Body Of Lies (which is a good flick and worth seeing anyway).

And yeah, the whole "Axl is a *****e" thing gets overblown. They told security to get rid of the guy in St. Louis with the camera three times before Axl lost it. On their live album he actually stopped the show, raised the lights, and wouldn't start playing again till everyone took a few steps back, because people in the front were getting crushed and passing out. And my favorite story...When Buckethead was threatening to quit, he took him to Disneyland to try and get him to stay. True, they later fired Buckethead for being f**king insane, but still, he tried.

And it would appear, if Weiland can be trusted, that the rest of the orignial line up of GNR were just as controlling, and just as big of a**holes as Axl supposedly always was. I have a feeling that the splitting of the band was more of a mutual thing than Slash and the others wants us to believe, and Axl was probably as glad to be rid of them as they were to be away from him.

It bothers me how people only bring up the shows like the St. Louis Riot. For instance take a lesser known show, Santiago, Chile 1992. Rough crowd with lots of things thrown on stage. As a result of the situation, a fan died, 10 got hurt and 178 arrested. After "Live And Let Die", Axl brings on an interpreter to tell the crowd they have to stop throwing bottles. During "Civil War", Axl throws his mic and stops singing to yell at the audience. The audience showed absolutely no respect when he told them to be quiet so he can talk. The song is restarted but at the end of the song, Axl sits down, clearly dissatisfied at the current situation with the crowd. Before "November Rain", Slash uses the interpreter to tell the crowd to calm down. But did he(Axl) walk off-stage? No, He sang throughout the concert as if it never happened.

That damn St.Louis show ... I had tickets for the next night in Chicago, but it was cancelled because so much of their equipment was damaged.

Then a year or so later, GnR came back to Chicago (and again I had tickets), but that show was also cancelled. This time the sheriffs were waiting to arrest Axl on a warant going back to the St.Louis riot. They never took the stage and the show was cancelled.

^That must have sucked really bad. You can blame Stupm from The Saddle Tramps for that.
I would give anything to have seen GN'R play back in the UYI Tour.

I just played Chinese Democracy to 2 of my friends who say they absolutely hate Gn'R now and that the new songs suck. I didn't tell them what it was though, i just told them to listen to this awesome new song from this new band. They loved it. I told them what it really was. I found out then that they never even gave the new GNR a chance. I think alot of people might be doing that.

Damn Axl is a bad ass.

GNR is one of my favorite bands. Right up there with ACDC. I plan on buying the new CD when it's released but I'm not expecting much.

Ha ha, I love that shirt. I also love that they hid "F**k You St. Louis" or whatever in the Use Your Illusion liner notes.

I couldn't even get through the first song on AC/DCs new album, I just hate the vocalist so much. I miss Bon Scott :(

Not only is the chinese democracy material not good enough to warrant as long as it took to release it...it's just flat out not good at all.

It's not even guns n roses, it's "Tubby McPredatorhair and the guys that aint slash"

First off, the joke you're trying to steal is "Tubby McGoo And The Guys That Aren't Slash," and second off, get the f**k out of my thread.

Me too, I think Black Ice is a powerful kick-ass AC/DC album

First of all, I made that up, second of all, this is a thread on an internet message board. It's not the "lets wash, massage and cradle axl rose's balls" thread, you do that in private with axl. This is a general gnr thread and if you cant deal with the axl rose side project calling itself gnr getting bashed for taking 15 years to release **** material, then I suggest you find another thread to post in, m'kay sparky?
