Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

I like Guy Ritchie movies, so I'm not opposed to the director of choice.
A white guy playing Aladdin...
Yeesh, this is just like the case with that movie about those old hyroglyphs being played by whites.
Arabs come in many skin tones, lots of them are whiter than Harry Styles.
His skin is mildly whiter than mine.

I would have preferred another director. I'm not sold on this move by Disney to be honest with you.

This is interesting.

LOVE Alladin but yeah I feel nervous for this one.

I'm guessing they'd go for Indian actors instead.

a white aladdin?

well, fine with that if they turn Ariel the Mermaid in a fine black piece of work

the book was real.

I think his Sherlock was very similar in energy to the animated movie. So I'm not really surprised.

Lol it looks like something you'd read if you were on acid or shrooms.

^ That's actually who I had in mind for the role, mostly because he's the only actor I could think of the sort of looks the part. I also like the suggestion that someone made of Priyanka Chopra.

Priyanka is in her 30s, I suspect they're looking for people in their 20s or slightly younger. But yeah, she would be perfect in her younger days.

BUT, can Patel sing? That's the challenge, Aladdin for all intents and purposes is a classical musical, which is why it was so easy for it to be transferred to Broadway.

It's why finding Aladdin will be like finding a diamond in the rough in comparison to finding Mowgli. The actor has to be able to carry a tune and carry it well, Aladdin has two of the memorable songs from the film and has to be able to lead one of the most notable of all Disney songs (A Brave New World). It's not an area that can just be half done.

It will be JLaw and Tom Hanks in the end.

We know this.

Oh, and Chris Tucker as the parrot for diversity per Disney etc.

My vote is Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi).

Same question as Patel, can he carry a tune?

That's why I'm saying Harry Styles (who at least looks of mixed descent, and we have one arab on here behind) or Diego Boneta (Rock Of Ages). Because at least we know they can sing and won't stumble over the lyrics of 'A Whole New World.'

Best case scenario is they can find a new comer not heard of yet, but of the known young actors out there who can legitimately sing - the pickings seems very few and far between.

There are plenty of white skinned Arabs, I'm one of them. :cmad:

It's possible.
We got a black Annie, black Jimmy Olsen, black Electro, black Kingpin....

There's a difference though from getting someone with a whiter complexion like Tahar Rahim, and getting someone whitebread like Dom Gleeson.

I think ethnicity also counts on how that person was raised, and/or how much exposure they have towards their parent's or family's culture.

I was never really sure of Dev Patel's ethnicity, but are there any young Arab actors out there who could do Aladdin?

Some mock the idea of a not Arabic white Aladdin, and we have those who nominate Indian actors for the role.
Maybe I should recast an old Egyptian movie hiring Japanese actors.

I'm not saying that's what I want but I would bet good money that it's exactly what's going to happen. That's probably already the best case scenario because it could be worse and they might still end up getting a white young American/European singer or something.

When people here say white, do they mean white as in the way you explained? I see it just 'White' as a complaint.

Probably.
An Arab actor played a Russian doctor back in the sixties.

None that's been on the screen that have shown singing capabilities. As said, the only known actors who can pull it off that are known aren't what people think of when they think Arab - Harry Styles and Diego Bonera. Although of the two Harry may be the better actor, depending upon 'Dunkirk' (Nolan does not same like he'd cast Harry out of stunt casting, he comes off more professionally minded than that). I'm not saying make Aladdin white, rather if it has to be someone known have it look at least somewhat mixed or can easily look from mixed descent and make sure they can legitimately sing.

What confuses me is people stating actors that have yet to prove any singing talents and are going off of look alone. Personally I'd rather have a stretch in looks than an actor who looks the role but has to seriously stretch to portray Aladdin (talented acting and singing combined).

He can be good in the role, but my problem is seeing how it will add to some folks continue confusing Indians with Arabs.

This movie being a bad idea aside, you'd think they'd get a better choice. This is like if Zack Snyder directed Wallace and Gromit. It's just so jarring.

Well I guess I can say goodbye to Ritchie going back to his roots.

I did not confuse them at all, mayne. Patel seems to be the default guy always broguht up when it comes to ''foreign' roles, just playing into that. :oldrazz:
