Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American author of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, known then simply as weird fiction.

Lovecraft's major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror; the idea that life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally alien. Those who genuinely reason, like his protagonists, gamble with sanity. Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fiction featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of the Enlightenment, Romanticism, and Christian humanism.[1][2] Lovecraft's protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality.

Although Lovecraft's readership was limited during his life, his reputation has grown over the decades, and he is now commonly regarded [3][specify] as one of the most influential horror writers of the 20th century, exerting widespread and indirect influence, and frequently compared to Edgar Allan Poe.[4] Stephen King has called Lovecraft "the twentieth Century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale

I've been a fan of H.P Lovecrafts works for quite a few years now, I find his stories to be fascinating and terrifying just as much. My favorite stories include At the Mountains of Madness & The Call of Cthulhu. But I also like alot of his other stories as well.

Also, I think this thread should of been posted here.

This should be in books and music :)

Hell yeah! Or at least a decent movie based on his work u.u

NOT A RELIGIOUS THREAD, EVEN AS A JOKE.
This thread is for images and conversations relevant to the works of Howard Phillip Lovecraft, a key contributor to the worlds of science fiction and horror, and in no way advocates paying ANY form of worship to the Great Old Ones.

I'm interested in the mythos of Cthulhu. What would be some of the best stories to read?

I just put that in the awesome thread.

Big fan here, first got interested in Lovecraft back in the mid 90's when a friend started a Call of Cthulhu rpg game that I played in. Great fun and it got me interested in the stories, many of which I have read multiple times.

Here's one of my favorite images. It's from the cover of the Art Of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos hardcover.

The myth of cthulhu is amazing. Lovecraft stories were truly immersive.

I own the H.P. Lovecraft complete collection from Barnes and Noble and I would like to know what would be the best stories that have been written by Lovecraft. Mainly the stuff that has to do with the Cthulhu mythos .

*bump*

I've been a Lovecraft fan since the dawn of time.

I hope someday At The Mountains Of Madness escapes development hell.
