.hack//G.U. Last Recode is coming to PlayStation 4 (physically and digitally) and PC via Steam in North America and Europe in late 2017, Bandai Namco announced.

.hack//Last Recode includes remastered and enhanced versions of .hack//G.U. Vol. 1//Rebirth, hack//G.U. Vol. 2//Reminisce, and hack//G.U. Vol. 3//Redemption.

Here’s an overview of the collection, via Bandai Namco:

.hack//G.U. Last Recode – the definitive .hack//G.U. experience for existing fans and newbies – collects the three .hack//G.U. action-RPG titles; Rebirth, Reminisce and Redemption with updated 1080p, 16:9 widescreen picture, and 60 fps frame rate, gameplay balance changes and additional features to be announced in the upcoming months.

.hack is a multimedia franchise created and developed by famed Japanese developer CyberConnect2. Comprising of video games, anime, novels, and manga, the world of .hack focuses on the mysterious events surrounding a wildly popular in-universe massively multiplayer role-playing game called The World. .hack//G.U. begins after the events of the original .hack series with players assuming the role of Haseo as he tracks down a powerful Player Killer named Tri-Edge who killed his friend’s in-game avatar Shino, and put her in a coma in real life.

In addition to offering the .hack//G.U. trilogy, .hack//G.U. Last Recode will also include enhanced battle balance and game pacing to provide an optimal experience as well as a new Cheat Mode allowing players who want to just enjoy the story to start the game with full stats.

Published 2 hours ago. 30 comments.
New five-minute trailer released.
dot-Hack-GU-Last-Recode-Date_08-22-17.jpg
.hack//G.U. Last Recode will launch for PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam in the Americas on Friday, November 3, Bandai Namco announced.

The collection will launch in Japan on November 1 and in Europe this fall.

Over at the PlayStation Blog, Bandai Namco provided an overview:

//Refresher
For those of you who are new to the series or need a quick refresher (it has been a while), the .hack//G.U. series takes place in 2017 (!?) where players follow Haseo’s journey as he hunts down Player Killers (PKs), players who kill other players, in a MMORPG called The World. Haseo logs into the game to pursue one PK in particular, Tri-Edge – the player who defeated his friend Shino in-game and put her nto a coma in the real world. From there on, Haseo trains to get stronger to find and defeat Tri-Edge and avenge Shino, all the while uncovering the mysteries of AIDA, a strange computer anomaly that infects players. The series takes place over three episodes; Vol.1//Rebirth, Vol.2//Reminisce, and Vol.3//Redemption.
The Terminal Disc
For those of you wondering if you’ll be able to jump right into the series without playing the previous games, the Terminal Disc footage (Included within the game) is here to help you along. There are a series of videos that provide details of what transpired in the first series and help provide context for your upcoming journey.
New Content in .hack//G.U. Vol. 4//Reconnection
The MMORPG “The World” has announced that their service will be coming to an end on December 31st, 2018. Soon after that announcement, Haseo, who hasn’t logged into the World since the events of Vol.3//Redemption, receives a mysterious email. In this e-mail, Haseo finds a hint to where Ovan; an old friend, has been after they last saw each other. Haseo, once again logs into The World in order to save his comrade!
Along the way, a new character Kusabira, who’s mysterious intentions and past is unraveled throughout the new story, greets him.
Haseo’s 5th Form
Also new to Last Recode is Haseo’s 5th form that brings new power and skills for players to experience.
(Editor’s Note: A preview of the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu earlier today revealed Haseo’s 5th form dedicated weapon to be “Gate of Ouroboros.” It can use eight types of arts, as well as invoke consecutive skill triggers.)
Cheat Mode
For those of you have played the series and would simply like to re-experience the story, we’d like to introduce “Cheat Mode,” a new mode that maxes out your stats to allow for speedier battles.
Gameplay Features and Improvements
Additional gameplay features and tweaks have also been added:

    • Increased Moving Speed – Characters will be able to move faster outside of battles for easier exploration
    • Power Up – Damage done to enemies have increased to improve the pace of battle
    • Reduction of Stun Time – Another improvement to the pace of battle, the amount of stun time has been reduced for quicker battle response and attacks
    • Increase in Exp. Points – Level up quicker with increased experience points after each battle
    • Retry Mode – In the original games, after players were defeated in battle, they would have to return to title screen to restart from the last checkpoint, players will now be allowed to try the same battle again without having to begin all over again
    • And much more…
(Editor’s Note: Read more about the game’s improvements here.)
Enhanced Visuals
We’ve made some huge visual enhancements! Moving from PS2 to PS4 has brought many opportunities for the developers to improve the look and feel of the game. The game has been up-scaled and is now in 16:9 1080p and at 60fps, with a lot of the cut scenes re-mastered – Making sure it stands the test of time.

Published 11 hours ago. 16 comments.
A powerful weapon that enables eight types of arts.
Bandai Namco released new information and screenshots of .hack//G.U. Last Recode detailing Haseo’s 5th Form weapon “Gate of Ouroboros,” which is available in the new .hack//G.U. Vol. 4//Reconnection.
Get the details below.
? Haseo’s 5th Form Exclusive Weapon: “The Gate of Ouroboros”

dot-Hack-GU-Last-Recode_09-01-17_001.jpg

5th Form Haseo is equipped with a powerful and exclusive sword called “The Gate of Ouroboros.” The weapon is classified as an “Eight Phase Sword,” and as its name suggests, it is a special sword that possesses the Epitaphs and power of all eight Phases.

*Dual Swords, Broadswords, Scythes, and Dual Guns, which can be used up until Xth Form Haseo, cannot be used by 5th Form Haseo.

dot-Hack-GU-Last-Recode_09-01-17_002.jpg

A Variety of Attacks through Form Changes
The blades of the Gate of Ouroboros are divided by Phase. The sword enables Haseo to fight while changing into various forms such as whip to mow down enemies or unleash a big slash attack covered in energy.
—After slashing the enemy with The Gate of Ouroboros in the form of a long sword, change it into the form of a whip to mow down the enemy with multi-stage hits.

dot-Hack-GU-Last-Recode_09-01-17_005.jpg
—Make away with your sword to rapid-fire countless bullets of light from each Phase. The amount of hits will increase the more you press the button.

—A big slash attack in which Haseo swings his energy-covered sword down at the enemy.

? The Arts of All Eight Phases
When Haseo transforms into his 5th Form, his regular arts disappear and he can only use exclusive arts that harbor the power of eight unique Avatars. Since the capabilities of various existing arts are sublimated together, they become techniques of great power.
Also, when using the exclusive arts, the Gate of Ouroboros changes into various forms of energy weapons.
“Fierce Decapitation” – The Terror of Death
Arts with the Epitaph of the 1st Phase, “Skeith.” They transform the weapon into a scythe that mutilates the enemy with consecutive attacks. They do not have any special capabilities, but have high power and are easy of use.

—Skeith
The Avatar that dwells within Haseo. It possesses the title, “The Terror of Death.”

dot-Hack-GU-Last-Recode_09-01-17_011.jpg

“Flight of Deceit” – The Mirage of Deceit
Arts with the Epitaph of the 2nd Phase, “Innis.” They transform the weapon into dual lances that hit the enemy in the air with lively attacks. They are particularly useful against flying enemies, and have various stat decrease effects.

—Innis
The Avatar that dwells within Atoli. It possesses the title, “The Mirage of Deceit.”

dot-Hack-GU-Last-Recode_09-01-17_015.jpg

“Relentless Burgeoning” – The Propagation
Arts with the Epitaph of the 3rd Phase, “Magus.” They transform the weapon into a uniquely-shaped sword that hits the enemy with whirlwind-raising attacks. They are both offensive and defensive, and can absorb damage to recover HP.

—Magus
The Avatar that dwells within Kuhn. It possesses the title, “The Propagation.”

dot-Hack-GU-Last-Recode_09-01-17_019.jpg

“Fated Carnage Mandala” – The Prophet

The image visual for .hack//G.U. Vol. 4//Reconnection is illustrated by Seiichiro Isasagawa, who is also the character designer of this title. It features 5th Form Haseo, who is the symbol of Vol. 4, and an Ovan who has changed into a different form than he has previously appeared. In new forms, the two will stand alongside each other for a new story.
Behind Haseo and Ovan is the silhouette of a girl that seems to be Kusabila, and an unidentified giant rising to the surface. Who exactly is this giant…?
