http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/11314805/Hackers-leak-details-of-13k-users-of-PlayStation-Xbox-and-Amazon.html

A gang of internet hackers claims it has leaked personal details of more than 13,000 users of PlayStation, Xbox and sites including Amazon in what appears to be the latest high-profile breach of internet security in recent weeks.
The hackers - who say they are affiliated to Anonymous, the shadowy anarchist hacking collective - released a document containing username and password combinations, with credit card numbers and expiry dates added later.
Microsoft’s Xbox games console, Sony’s PlayStation equivalent, and online gaming site Twitch.tv were among the main targets of the hack, the Dailydot.com website reported. Other reported targets include Walmart, the US supermarket giant, Amazon, Dell, computer games including The Sims 3 and Dragon Age: Origins and a host of porn sites.
Games consoles such as Xbox and Playstation, as well as computer games, use the internet so that gamers can play each other online.
The hackers, who posted on Twitter that they had carried the hack out "for the Lulz", or laughs, also uploaded the The Interview, the controversial Sony film that has recently caused a diplomatic row involving the US and North Korea, to a file-sharing website where it can be illegally downloaded.
A tweet, posted by the @AnonymousGlobo account, said: “A total of approximately 13k accounts. We did for the Lulz.”
If confirmed, the apparent hack comes soon after other high-profile breaches of internet security.

Sony is still battling to fully restore its PlayStation services following a separate hack over Christmas took gamers around the world offline, just as they were settling down to enjoy their new festive gifts.
The company on this weekend urged players to be patient as it worked to bring services on its PS4, PS3 and Vita systems back online. Microsoft’s Xbox, which also went down over Christmas, was restored on Boxing Day.
A group of hackers, calling themselves Lizard Squad, took credit for the attacks, with a man claiming to speak for the group claimed they had done it for the “public good” to “raise awareness” about shortfalls in security systems.
Some security experts believe Lizard Squad is closely allied with Guardians of Peace, the group blamed for the attack on Sony provoking a diplomatic row between North Korea and the US.
But tracing the hackers could be problematic, say experts, while Sony and Microsoft continue to decline to give exact details of where the hacks originated.

Just thought it might be a good idea to post so people are aware in case.

Anonymous was originally one person who other hackers impersonated to give the identity its own presence, creating a Stand Alone Complex. :o

Don't these ***holes have anything better to do

So I guess a change in passwords is necessary. Although, I'm not sure if my account was effected.

Just wonderful. Can't wait to go back to work Monday so I can deal with this mess.

I'm not even sure how to change my password on Xbox Live, I don't even know if I have one. Lol

It seems like it's every day with this s***. At some point, I'm just going to cut all cords, take my money and live in a cabin somewhere like the angry, bitter old hermit I'm meant to be. :o

that's it, time to move off the grid

... does anyone know how to get off the grid

my password on all my accounts is abc123 should i change it

Done. Now onto the porn site accounts... I mean Amazon. :sus

Sadly getting off the grid takes money, and a lot of it, unless you're willing to give up your creature comforts.

1. Bone up on your survival skills. Can you catch, skin and fillet a fish?
What about a bird? What about a deer?
2. Do you know how to grow food? Potatoes, Tomatoes and Corn are the minimum staples you would require. Tomatoes are easy - potatoes are hard work and Corn is the one I always fail at.

If your answers to #1 & 2 above are no, then your only method of going off the grid requires living homeless on the streets in a city.

If you can do 1 & 2 then it may be possible, if you have enough money, to live off the grid comfortably in the countryside.

3. Find your bit of countryside and purchase it. Your stretch of land needs to be big enough to fit a house, garage (not for a car but big enough to hold one), wind turbine, land for crops and land for livestock. It should also be on a river or lake. I would also recommend that it already have Apple trees.
4. If the piece of land does not already have a house and garage you will need to get them built. You will also need a wind turbine, solar panels, large energy storing batteries (in the garage), an alcohol fueled generator, and the know how to turn corn into alcohol (did you think the corn was for eating?).
5. Plant crops you can pickle / can easily - learn the steps for pickling, canning and jarring your favourite foods. I hope you like applesauce.
6. Get yourself some goats and chickens. Goats for the milk (and cheese), chickens for the eggs. Learn how to milk the goats. When they're too old to produce, you'll be butchering both for meat, and learn how to skin your goat to use their skin for carpets & other materials.

If you can do all of the above your set. If you're smart, you'll find someone who knows how to do all that stuff already and learn from them.

There is one more way off the grid. Use cash and only cash and find an employer who pays in cash and a place to live that will take only cash and a place to put your money that can't be broken into.

One of the things that drives me crazy at work are the terrible passwords people use.

I have the ability to see the passwords at work because I'm one of the IT people and I usually have to send e-mails to folks saying:

Your password should be more secure, do NOT use your name followed by a year or the number 1, and then I provide them with a link to our company password policy.

So tired of these idiots pulling this garbage for the lulz. If you're going to do this at least make it a good target like a terrorist group or something.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I changed all my passwords.

So, EA Games, does that cover Origin as well?

I'd change it just to be safe. I did my amazon and xbox accounts.

Yeah I guess it's best to do so.

Btw, shouldn't these companies inform their customers about these sort of things?

Why bother? The media will do that job for them without making them have to apologize

Change it to a1 to keep them guessing.

won't allow says it has to be six characters or more

thinking about changing it to "password" its kinda meta I doubt they would ever guess it

Actually check some of the studies done in the past few years on passwords. Password1 is a big one.
