So, after seeing the demise of Baron Wolfgang von Strucker and the rest of his Hydra division, along with the damage inflicted in AoS, how much of Hydra remains? It's pretty much confirmed they will be in Cap 3 because of Baron Zemo and Crossbones but man have they taken a beating. Where does their story go from here do you all think?

Hydra will probably turn back up in Black Panther.

Well Strucker is done-for at least, unless the "Peace" sign on the cell wall was red paint and not his liquid innards 0_0

But my guess is that they will be at their all-time lowest state and will have to rebuild

Baron Von Strucker

Yet another newly introduced character from the comics Whedon has wasted and restricted from future use.

If by "wasted" you mean "killed in a manner that future writers could undo it if desired." We see him killed. . . via a picture sent after the fact. There have been less certain deaths, but not many.

Well, the AOS season finale has Ward starting to build HYDRA up from the very bottom (again), so we definitely haven't seen the last of them. My only slight concern is that Marvel may over-use HYDRA as a villainous threat.

Maybe you are right but that doesn't mean that Whedon probably screw the plans that the Russos had for the character (specially in civil war).

There is 0.0% chance Whedon screwed anybody's plans. If other directors planned to use him in the immediate future, Whedon wouldn't have been allowed to kill him.

Daniel Whitehall was a better Baron Strucker than Strucker himself was.

Unless there's a deleted scene showing Ultron do in Strucker who's to say it's not an elaborate ruse where Ultron helps Strucker fake his demise. Strucker could be using the same play that Fury did in TWS. Can't kill you or hunt you if they think you're already dead. Something just doesn't feel right about how they handled it. Especially after the introduction at the end of TWS, it feels like there's something more to all this. We already have Zemo and Crossbones in CW, and they could still bring in Strucker, Robo-Zola or even Red Skull as a twist villain if they want.

I think they'll wait until the IW movies to bring back Red Skull probably with a recast. I'd like AIM to return.

My own explanation would be simpler.

Ultron: "Hey, Strucker. I guess your sort of my grand-pappy. Anyway, I'm here to kill you, because lets be honest, your a monster."

Strucker: "Well, if your going to monologue to me for a while before doing it, than how about I offer a counter proposal. I know information that might be valuable to you, that exists only in my head. I give you that, you don't kill me, and my agents will take advantage of your attack to get me out of this prison."

Ultron: "Huh, okay. I think I can get behind that deal."

Strucker: "Excellent! *tells info* Glad we could do business."

Ultron: "Agreed! *blasts Strucker*"

Strucker: "Oww! We had a deal!"

Ultron: "Oh, quit whining, I still need your bloody corpse for my selfie, and your agents should get here long before the wound kills you."

Not sure what kind of information Strucker would have that Ultron couldn't just seize by force (plus screw whatever plans HYDRA has if Ultron' just going to trigger an extinction event anyways).

So my biggest problem with the retconning of Strucker's death is that it would take some major convincing to get me to believe that Ultron would fake someone's death like that. I just don't see what possible motivation Ultron would have. I want to see him come back, but the circumstances would be too weird and jarring I think, like, it'd require a big stretch in logic.

If you haven't seen Ant-Man yet, don't worry, Hydra is still alive.

"Cut off one head, two more shall take it's place", right?

There's plenty of characters that can fill the void left by Strucker. We already have Zemo coming, and there's always Madame Hydra. Hugo Weaving never said he wasn't willing to return either.
